QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 28th MAY 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Soft 5 RAIL – Out 5m the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – P ZimmermannStewards – W Glass, A JohnstonClerk of Scales – A CucksonJudge – S Fahey & B PolestraVeterinarian – Dr E MaxwellSwab Attendants – A ChallanStarter – B MalloryStewards Secretary – C Warren SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Warwick 3rd May 2022 Race 7- THE DAIRY LOUNGE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100m On the 23rd May 2022 Stewards concluded an inquiring to App S Champkins riding of her mount, RODIAN BULL, in the home straight. In the presence of her Master Ms M Sears App Champkin pleaded guilty to two separate charges under the provisions of AR131(b) and AR114(2)(a) respectively. The particulars of the first charge being that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the race potentially costing that runner 3rd place. App Champkin was subsequently fined the sum of $400. In regard to the second charge the particulars were that App Champkin did fail to notify Stewards within a practicable timeframe after the race that the horse felt somewhat off in its action at a point near the 200m. Subsequent evidence from Trainer Mr P Richardson revealed that App Champkin had neglected to advise him of this occurrence on returning to the mounting yard and that the filly had pulled up well in the days following the event. App Champkin was subsequently fined the sum of $200 which, under the provisions of AR283(5), was wholly suspended for a period of 12 months on the condition that App Champkin does not reoffend under the provisions of AR283 in that period. In determining penalty Stewards took into account the circumstances of the matter including App Champkins disciplinary record and her inexperience in terms of race riding as well as the nature of the breaches. App Champkin was advised of her right to an internal review. Dalby 7th April 2022 Race 8- AUSTBROKERS CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1788m On the 25th May 2022 Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances which led to App O Kendall being dislodged from her mount SAMHAIN soon after the finish of the race. After taking evidence from the riders involved and reviewing the patrol footage it was determined that SAMHAIN had been inclined to lay in marginally in the home straight and ALIRAAJ (M Hellyer) inclined to lay out marginally over the concluding stages which resulted in SAMHAIN becoming somewhat awkwardly placed on the heels of that runner on passing the winning post. Soon after the winning post ALIRAAJ shifted out abruptly despite the efforts of its rider causing SAMHAIN to clip heels and blunder causing App Kendall to become unbalanced and lose her irons before shifting out abruptly itself, losing its footing and slipping consequently dislodging App Kendall before falling itself. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the incident was the fault of any rider and was predominantly a result of the manners of ALIRAAJ no action was other than to advise both Jockey Hellyer and App Kendall to exercise greater care in ensuring their mounts do not shift ground when riding them out in the home straight and to order ALIRAAJ to trial satisfactorily before Stewards prior to again being permitted to start in a race, which was ordered on the day of the incident.
