Race 4 – Trainer J Judge was reprimanded under the provisions of LR68 in that he failed to scratch RED MONKEY, which had no rider declared, by the prescribed time which subsequently led to the elimination of MOMENTUM GLORY from the field. Race 1: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1625 metres Stewards delayed the declaration of correct weight so as to inquire into an incident which occurred at the barrier. After taking evidence from official race starter Mr C Higgins, App M Savva (BEARHUG) and Trainer Mr K Kemp, as well as reviewing patrol footage of the start Stewards determined that BEARHUG had been loaded into the barrier riderless and as App M Savva was attempting to secure her irons they had become twisted as a result of the barrier blanket which was fitted to the gelding. The start of the event had then been effected prior to App Savva securing her irons placing her at a significant disadvantage throughout the event leaving her unable to ride the gelding out in the finish. Acting under the provisions of AR204 Stewards subsequently declared BEARHUG a non-starter as due to being encumbered by equipment, namely the barrier blanket, App Savva was unable to obtain her irons leaving the gelding in effect riderless at the time the start was effected. Additionally, Stewards advised and Starter Mr C Higgins undertook to review the communication practices employed at the barriers to prevent similar incidents from occurring going forward. As a result of BEARHUG being declared a non-starter all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed on the event upon the declaration of correct weight being declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. 19cents in the dollar for the win16cents in the dollar for the place KIKI COCO- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.
