HIGH I CUE- Stewards inquired into App J Williams riding of the gelding. App Williams advised that his instructions had been to be positive but was beaten for speed early and settled with cover. App Williams advised that his mount had been inclined to over-race on heels for the majority of the event until a point near the 800m when he restrained his mount and shifted wider and permitted his mount to stride forward and obtain a position outside SHEPPEY and the equal lead soon after whist still in a wide position. Stewards expressed concerns with App Williams tactics at the 800m considering that his mount had settled in its racing manners and whilst still inclined to race keenly had ceased to over-race. Stewards expressed particular concern with the action of restraining his mount to allow it to come back from SHEPPEY and to shift wider to the outside of that runner when at that time he was not placed near the heels of any other runner and in no need to be restraining his mount. App Williams concurred, with the benefit of hindsight, that he had erred in his actions and should have maintained his position to the inside of SHEPPEY at that stage of the race. App Williams stated that after being placed in a precarious position for a significant duration, that being over-racing on heels, leading up to that point he was anxious to get clear running but agreed that his actions had been to the detriment of his mounts chances. Given App Williams inexperience and his acknowledgement of his error in judgement Stewards elected not to take any action other than to remind App Williams of his obligations.
