Race 1: NATIONAL JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100m

NEDS GULLY- Buffeted heavily between runners on jumping before being tightened and losing ground.

WINDJANA- Began awkwardly and bumped before commencing to lay out tightening NED’S GULLY before being corrected by its rider. Over-race in the early and middle stages. Laid out passing the 800m and improved onto heels passing the 700m having to be steadied. Laid out rounding the home turn becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of JOHNNY THUNDER, which shifted in marginally at that time, as a result clipped the heels of that runner, blundered and dislodged App J Malloy. App Malloy was attended to by QAS officers and was declared fit to fulfil his remaining engagements. As Stewards were satisfied that no rider could be held accountable and blame for the incident could be attributed predominantly to the racing manners of WINDJANA no action was taken other than to advise trainer L Hatch that a warning would be placed on the mares racing manners.

IN’HINCHABLE- Bumped on jumping. Momentarily crowded passing the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running.

ANTHROPICA- Began awkwardly and bumped heavily. Inconvenienced when obliged to shift wider abruptly to avoid the fallen rider.

YAMUMZA- Bumped on jumping.

PICCANNINI- Bumped on jumping. Disappointed for a run on entering the home straight and again near the 200m.

JOHNNY THUNDER- Shifted in marginally passing the 800m momentarily crowding IN’HINCHABLE. App T Townsend was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Shifted in marginally leaving the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed then gelding to have sustained a laceration to its off-hind hock consistent with being galloped on in running.

Race 2: THE FARM PROTECTORS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1850m

STAR DIVA- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride and trailed the field by some distance for the majority. Trainer B Baker was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR185 for adding a towel to the mares gear after App Townsend had weighed-out.

WINSTON BLUE- Raced wide until a point near the 1300m. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding. App M Kennedy advised that her instructions had been to be positive from the wide barrier and rode her mount accordingly in the early stages until a point near the 1400m when she assessed persisting with her actions to obtain the outright lead was untenable and settled in a position outside WAITAKERE. Stewards noted the explanation. Under pressure near the 800m and commenced to lose ground from the 600m.

HOLD ALL TICKETS- Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide for the majority. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the mare App M Savva advised that her mount had resented her efforts to restrain and after settling somewhat commenced to over-race when crossed near the 1400m and as such she shifted wider on the track to obtain clear running. Stewards noted the explanation.

IN YOUR ELEMENT- Held up on heels near the 500m before shifting wider to improve.

WAITAKERE- Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding particularly that there appeared to be opportunity to steady his mount near the 1400m and obtain a position with cover along the inside running rail. App Molloy advised his instructions had been to be positive on his mount and that whilst noting it would have been favourable to have taken up a position with cover at that time he felt his mount was racing too keenly to be restrained at that time. Stewards noted the explanation.

CONSULAR- Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer A Park was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings competitiveness.

Race 3: HAPPY 21st ELLIE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1625m

BETTER ETHICS- Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly down the back straight and raced wide until the 900m.

MADDIARA- Over-race from the 1400-1200m. Bumped the inside running rail near the 1000m when crowded and again near the 900m.

DREAMTIMER- Commenced to race keenly when crossed passing the 1400m. Bumped the inside running rail near the 1000m.

Race 4: REMEMBERING PETER MCDOUGALL BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1300m

AMAZINGLY- Began awkwardly and was tightened for room having to be steadied from heels. Laid out passing the 900m.

Race 5: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER MAIDEN PLATE 1300m

DREAMSEEKER- Crowded on jumping before being tightened.

LADY DANORO- Crowded on jumping. Improved not heels near the 700m and again near the 600m having to be steadied. Laid out passing the 400m becoming awkwardly placed on heels before shifting in on entering the home straight to obtain clear running.

GENTLE LASS- Crowded on jumping and lost ground.

SAMURAI SUN- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly for a short distance after being crossed by another runner near the 1100m. Bumped passing the 400m. Raced wide for the majority. Performed below market expectation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey M Powell advised that his instructions had been to be positive but, in his opinion, the mare would be more suited to being ridden quietly. Trainer M Currie advised that the mare, which was having its first start for his stable, had been working reasonably well but was of the opinion that racing in the wide position throughout was telling in the finish and he was not overly disappointed in the performance. Stewards noted the explanations.

ST MORITZ- Bumped soon after the start and shifted in soon after crowding runners to its inside. App J Molloy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

STIRLING DIVA- Shifted in and away from heels soon after the start tightening DREAM SEEKER, which was already racing in crowded room. Raced keenly approaching the 1000m. Laid out passing the 900m. Bumped leaving the 400m when attempting to shift wider to improve.

CHANTILLY MOON- Bumped on jumping. Bumped passing the 600m and again passing the 550m. Raced greenly for the majority. Shifted in approaching the 400m hampering CLEARLY GEORGE. Jockey M Powell was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
