QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – TUESDAY 1st NOVEMBER 2022 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Race 1 & 2 Soft 5; Good 4 remainder RAIL – Out 4m the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, T Preston, D MacDonaldClerk of Scales – S FaheyJudge – M Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr G LawsSwab Attendants – R BurchmanStarters – B Mallory & D Hodgson GENERAL Stewards permitted the following over-weights at todays meeting: Race 1- Jockey N Fazackerley +0.5kgRace 2- Jockey T Banks + 0.5kgRace 3- Jockey S Lacy +1kg As Jockey B Shimodara was not riding at todays meeting due to injury rider replacements were made as per Stewards race-day summary. Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainers J Thomas and B Gorman for the late declaration of riders on their respective Race 1: FINDEX MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m The start of the event was delayed by approximately 1hour 15minutes when ZORAH reared over behind the barriers and dislodged Jockey R Payne before galloping some distance before being secured by the clerk of the course. Jockey Payne was tendered to by QAS Officers and subsequently transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital with a suspected broken leg and back soreness. Jockey Payne was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in races. As Jockey Payne was unable to fulfil her remaining engagements rider replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. ZORAH was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1:36pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 1:36pm: 3cents in the dollar for the win3cents in the dollar for the place Trainer M Palmer was advised the mare would require a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. DUSTYIAM- Slow into stride. TRIPPLESEE- Slow to begin. Shifted in and away from another runner becoming awkwardly placed on heels having to be eased leaving the 200m. HE’S A DEVIL- Bumped on jumping. Obliged to ease passing the 800m. Taken wider and obliged to steady leaving the 700m. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 30m. MESAYSO- Bumped on jumping. GIDGET- Bumped on jumping. Shifted in passing the 800m crowding runners to the inside. App S Champkin was advised to exercise greater care and shift ground more gradually in similar circumstances. Shifted out passing the 30m momentarily inconveniencing HE’S A DEVIL. App Champkin was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. App Chapkin was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that she did use her whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m. REG ‘N’ KATH- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Shifted in leaving the 200m, despite the efforts of its rider, momentarily crowding TRIPPLESEE. GODDESS OF DREAMS- Bumped on jumping. Taken in by another runner passing the 800m momentarily crowding DEDORS LAD. DEDORS LAD- Crowded and obliged to ease passing the 800m. Improved onto heels before shifting out abruptly and inconveniencing HE’S A DEVIL. Jockey K Yoshida was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey N Fazackerley, rider of 2nd place getter HE’S A DEVIL, lodged an objection against 1st placegetter GIDGET, alleging interference inside the final 100m. After taking evidence from the riders and connections of the runners involved and viewing the patrol footage Stewards determined that GIDGET did shift out under pressure passing the 100m momentarily inconveniencing HE’S A DEVIL. However, given the beaten margin, the degree of interference, the proximity of the interference to the winning post and the manner in which the respective runners were finishing the race off Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference had a tangible effect on the placings and as such dismissed the protest and declared correct weight on the Judges numbers. Race 2: SUBZERO AIRCONDITIONING RATINGS BAND 0-52 HANDICAP 1050m TRY TO BE GOOD- Slow to begin. Obliged to check and blundered approaching the 300m. HISGRACE- Slow to begin. Shifted out under riding when insufficiently clear of TRY TO BE GOOD causing that runner to be checked and blunder approaching the 300m. Jockey S Lacy pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions AR131(a) with her license to ride in races subsequently suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 6th November up to and including 13th November 2022. In determining penalty Stewards considered Jockey Lacys guilty plea, he excellent record in relation to the rule as well as the degree of carelessness and severity of interference which were deemed to be in the low range. Jockey Lacy was advised of her right to an internal review. ROOTS’N’ROCKS- Began awkwardly. SCARE CAMPAIGN- Slow to begin and bumped. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Bumped another runner over the concluding stages. WHISTLIN’ ARROW- Raced wide in the early stages. TINDER- Bumped passing the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. STRIVE TO SUCCEED- Bumped passing the 600m. Bumped with another runner over the concluding stages. FILLYRAE CYRUS- Momentarily crowded passing the 150m. BEGIN- Shifted in to obtain clear running and momentarily crowded FILLYRAE CYRUS. Jockey S McGovern was advised to exercise grater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Declaration of correct weight was delayed when Jockey W D’Avila, rider of 5th place getter TRY TO BE GOOD, lodged an objection against 4th place getter HISGRACE, alleging interference approaching the 300m. After taking evidence from the riders and connections of the runners and viewing the patrol footage Stewards determined that HISGRACE did shift out at that point when insufficiently clear of TRY TO BE GOOD causing that runner to blunder and be checked. Given the beaten margin, the degree of interference, the location of the interference and the manner in which the respective runners were finishing off the race Stewards were comfortable satisfied that had the interference not occurred TRY TO BE GOOD would have finished ahead of HISGRACE and as such upheld the protest and declared correct weight on the amended placings of: 1st - WHISTLIN’ ARROW2nd - DANCING TALES3rd - BEGIN4th - TRY TO BE GOOD Race 3: LASER LYRICS AUSTRALIA CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m JONDY ROCKET- Stewards permitted the scratching of the gelding at 2:07pm when no suitable rider was available after Jockey R Payne was injured. SHEINDLIN- Bumped on jumping. STAR DIVA- began awkwardly. Bumped passing the 900m. Resented being restrained to obtain cover passing the 800m before being momentarily crowded. ROZEENA- Bumped on jumping. Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer N Evans was advised a warning would be placed on the mares competitiveness as a result. ASTUTE- Raced keenly from the 1000m. Shifted in passing the 900m and bumped another runner. Shifted in passing the 800m momentarily crowding STAR DIVA. Jockey S Lacy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Race 4: PACIFIC SEEDS RATINGS BAND 0-52 HANDICAP 1300m RED MONKEY- Slow to begin. ANTHROPICA- Began awkwardly and bounded in the air as the start was effected. Momentarily crowded passing the 900m. Shifted in under pressure down the running. MY ZEBRINKA- Crowded on jumping and was obliged to ease off heels soon after. TUFFNUT- Raced keenly down the back straight. KINGSFORD’S OWN- Shifted in marginally passing the 900m momentarily crowding ANTHROPICA before shifting back out and becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. WHISTLE HOFF- Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: MNP SECUTIRY CLASS 1 PLATE 1650m NO CHOICES- Bumped on jumping. BUCKIN’ LUCKY- Slow to begin. LOCK AND LAUNCH- Fractious in the barrier. Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly passing the 1400m and in the early stages of the back straight. STRUT- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid out from the 1800m taking the home turn wide and laid in under pressure down the running.
