When asked to comment regarding the performance Jockey N Keal advised that after being uncharacteristically fractious in the barrier and then missing the start his mount was forced to make up the lost ground and take the home turn wide which were telling in the finish. Trainer M Currie advised that the gelding would now be sent for spell. WHISTLIN’ ARROW- Bumped on jumping. Jockey J Kissick dropped his near-side rein approaching the 100m. Shifted out marginally under pressure leaving the 100m taking FOREVER VOLO wider and tightening DROP THE PILOT. Jockey Kissick was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. YOUNG CLIFFY- Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Under pressure from the 600m and finished tailed off. Raced wide for the majority. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K Jones advised that, in his opinion, the distance of todays event was far short of the geldings ideal. Trainer Jones added on the 5/12/22 that the gelding had pulled p well following its run. REGAL EDITION- Laid in approaching the 1000m before commencing to race keenly on heels. Bumped with GAIUS passing the 500m, 300m and 250m. Was inclined to lay in under pressure down the running, shifting in marginally leaving the 100m taking ELENARA in and tightening DROP THE PILOT. App J Molloy was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. DROP THE PILOT- Shifted in and away from another runner approaching the 1000m before commencing too race keenly on heels. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Jockey Keal advised that after beginning only fairly and given the pace present on his inside, elected to restrain his mount to a trailing position from the wide barrier in an effort to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail. Stewards further queried the tactics adopted on the mare particularly regarding an apparent lack of urgency from Jockey Keal from the 600-400m when it appeared it may have been pertinent to pressure his mount to obtain a position outside DEVIL’S RITE approaching the 400m. Jockey Keal advised that after racing keenly in the early stages his mount had dropped the bit abruptly and lost some ground, after being able to urge his mount and secure a position about one length off DEVIL’S RITE leaving the 500m he elected not to pressure his mount any further in the hope it may finish the race off well. Jockey Keal did note, with the benefit of hindsight, given the 60kg impost he may have been better position to do so had he continued his urgings approaching the 400m and obtained a position outside DEVIL’S RITE and in doing so maintaining his mounts momentum. Stewards noted the explanation. VICEMAN- Began awkwardly and raced wide for the majority.
