Stewards inquired into the reasons BORDEAUX HOPPER appeared to check passing the 800m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and reviewing the patrol footage it was determined that at that point TISANI EMPEROR (M Savva) which was racing in a three (3) wide position was being restrained to come back in the field before shifting into to a one-off position in an effort to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail. Simultaneously, BORDEAUX HOPPER (A Thompson) commenced to over-race and shifted out across the heels of TISANI EMPEROR as that runner was shifting in, having to be checked as a result. As Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied any rider was culpable for the incident given the racing manners of BORDEAUX HOPPER no further action was taken. Nonetheless, Jockey M Savva was advised to exercise greater care when initiating manoeuvres of a similar nature in future. SEMPREINTE- Raced keenly when being restrained in the early and middle stages. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in passing the 100m. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding and questioned App T Townsend in the presence of Jockey S Lacy. Specifically, Stewards queried whether App Townsend’s efforts in restraining her mount in the early and middle stages were excessive resulting in her mount settling further back in the field than it should have as well as her decision to shift wider passing the 800m, when it appeared prudent to maintain her position on the inside running rail or at least in a one-off position considering her rearward position in the field. App Townsend advised her instructions had been to be positive on her mount and concurred that her efforts in restraining her mount in the early and middle stages had been excessive and agreed she had erred. Additionally, App Townsend agreed that a better option would have been to maintain her position on the inside running rail rather than shifting wider passing the 800m. Nonetheless, Stewards advised App Townsend that the matter would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Team for review. Stewards intend to conduct a review into the betting on the event INCOMPARABLE- Shifted ground under pressure down the running.
