QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – Saturday 18th MARCH 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 Race 1; Good 3 the remainder RAIL – Out 3m from the 800-600m; Out 5m the remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C Warren Stewards – J Childs, T Preston & D MacDonaldClerk of Scales – D RossiterJudge – S Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr G CavannaghSwab Attendants – J Pedofsky & R BurchmannStarters – B Mallory & C Higgins SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Heat 3 Toowoomba Trials 7th March 2023 Jockey K Yoshida pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip 14 times, 9 times more than permitted, prior to the 100m. Jockey Yoshida’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 26th March 2023 up to and including 1st April 2023. In considering penalty Stewards were mindful of Jockey Yoshida’s early guilty plea, his record, the extent of the breach as well as its full context. Jockey Yoshida was advised of his right to an internal review. GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonight’s meeting- Race 4- Jockey L Tarrant +1/2kgRace 6- Jockey M Powell +1kg App T Townsend was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR128(1) for her late arrival on course. App S Champkin was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR127(1) for failing to fulfil her engagement in Race 2 as a result of being late to arrive on course. Race 1: GREENRIDGE CONNECT BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000m WHISTLIN’ ARROW- Some publications may have erroneously indicated App S Champkin was to ride the gelding, however K Zechner had been substituted as rider prior to Jockey declarations being finalised. Social media address was made to this effect on the morning of the meeting. AMERICAN RED- Bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a poor post-race recovery. RAVAGED AWARD- Shifted out and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly passing the 600m. Bumped passing the 400m when shifting out to improve before being disappointed for a run and having to be momentarily eased and shift back in. ORACOLO- Began awkwardly. Momentarily awkward on heels soon after the start. KWAMI- Bumped on jumping. Bumped passing the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. SONIC ARROW- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. OAKFIELD COMANCHE- Raced wide for the majority. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3 Race 2: COMPLETE BATHROOMS TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1210m TEA LEAVES- Slow into stride. Trailed the field for the majority before finishing off fairly. LOGOMANIA- Bumped on jumping. MANDALONG FLAG- Bumped on jumping. Bumped the inside running rail passing the 550m. Laid out under pressure down the running. INSTANT KARMA- Bumped the inside running rail near the 550m. SUISSE SCANDAL- Raced keenly down the back straight. Obliged to ease and shift out leaving the 200m. IT’S A MISTAKE- Shifted out leaving the 200m and inconvenienced SUISSE SCANDAL. App J Molloy was severely reprimanded as a result of this incident. Race 3: LA & MM HANCOCK BUILDERS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1650m TAKE THE LEAD. Underwent farrier attention to re-fit an off-hind plate at the barriers. On returning to the mounting yard was found to have again lost that plate in running. IRISH SALLY- Restrained out of the barrier to obtain a position closer to the inside running rail with cover. Shifted in under pressure down the running. JERONIMOS- Raced wide in the early stages and bumped passing the 1400m before being restrained and shifting in to obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail in the early stages of the back straight. Inclined to lay in intermittently throughout the event and bumped the inside running rail near the 1200m. TRUE PATRIOT- Over-raced from the 1400-1300m. Raced keenly passing the 1000m. Raced wide from the 800m. App S Callow was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) in that she did fail to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In determining penalty Stewards noted the margin to 4th placegetter TAKE THE LEAD however could not be comfortably satisfied that App Callows actions had cost her mount 4th place. STAR DIVA- Shifted out and bumped passing the 1400m whilst racing keenly. SMASHING LUCAS- Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out on entering the home straight. Race 4: ACCESS AUTOMATIC DOORS MAIDEN HANDICAP 870m MOFILO- Stood flat footed as the start was effected. Trainer A Campton was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result. Raced greenly down the running. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery as well as lameness in the right hind. Trainer A Campton was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding being permitted to start in a race. RUSSIAN DIVA- Raced keenly passing the 500m. GOLDEN GROOVE- Laid in in the early stages. LADY WILSTON- Laid in for the majority. Trainer S Hardy was advised a warning would be placed on the fillies racing manners as a result. COBURG- Lost an off-hind plate in running. MISS GIDEON- On returning to scale App A Donald had advised she had contacted the inside running rail and injured her foot but was fit to continue. Race 5: BROWN & HURLEY MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300m DUCHESS BREE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. SILVER WARRIOR- Bumped soon after the start. Lost left-hind plate in running. THE REAL SAINT- Raced ungenerously soon after the start, shifted out and bumped another runner. Shifted in under pressure down the running. Jockey M Powell was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR211(1) for returning to scale in excess of the permitted weight. ARTFUL GIRL- Momentarily hampered by and injured runner passing the 800m. On returning to the mounting yard Jockey M Savva sought the assistance of QAS officers after suffering from a medical condition. Jockey Savva was transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for further treatment and observation. Jockey Savva was advised a medical clearance would be required prior to her being permitted to race ride again. UNION SPIRIT- Momentarily race ungenerously passing the 800m. LOCKITINEDDY- Raced keenly down the back straight. Went a miss in its action near the 800m and was retired from the race. An immediate veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the pelvis. The gelding was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Post-mortem blood samples were taken for analysis. Race 6: ROUND SQUARE MARKETING BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1300m MOST DAZZLING- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly down the back straight. Laid in passing the 500m. WAIT A MINUTE- Improved onto heels and steadied approaching the 1000m. Raced ungenerously for a short distance approaching the 300m. Following the running of this event App A Donald advised her foot injury had worsened significantly and she was subsequently tendered to by QAS officers before being transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for treatment. App Donald was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in a race. SPENDING MY TIME- Raced keenly down the backs straight. OVERSEAS- Bumped passing the 250m. Raced wide for the majority. COSMIS GOSSIP- Bumped passing the 250m. Laid in under pressure down the running. ELLOH- Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 7: SPRAY BLAST INSPECT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1875m GIRRAMAY- Slow into stride before being crowded and bumped. BLAVATSKY- Shifted out and bumped. Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly down the back straight. Laid out under pressure down the running proving difficult to ride out. CONSULAR- Laid out passing the 1600m. Raced keenly on heels near the 1300m. BUMP’N’RUN- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure down the running. Lost off-fore plate in running. BERNIE’S TIGER- Jockey P Hamblin was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
