Remained wide until a point near the 900m when after making a forward move obtained the lead and a position on the inside running rail. When questioned regarding the performance Jockey M Savva advised that, in her opinion, he mount had done excessive work in the early stages racing wide and over-racing for an extended period. She also felt tonight’s event represented a step up in class for the gelding which may also have been a telling factor. Race 3: GERRY BROWN’S SHELVING & STORAGE QTIS 3yo MAIDEN PLATE 1200m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the start to ensure CANDY CLOUDS was awarded a fair start. On reviewing the footage it was determined that CANDY CLOUDS had reared as the start was effect and it was the manners of the filly rather than any outside influence which resulted in the loss of ground at the start. As such correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. LOLA STAR- Very slow into stride. Trainer A Park was advised a warning would be placed on the filly as a result. CANDY CLOUDS- Reared as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the fillies barrier manners as a result. Jockey A Allen was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that on entering the home straight he did permit his mount to shift in, under riding, and exercise insufficient effort in correcting his mount and as a result bumped with ZESTAR forcing that runner in onto the line of TRAIN ROCK which was tightened, checked and lost its rightful running. Stewards noted a marginal inward shift from STORMY DRAGON (App S Champkin) when rounding the home turn however it was determined that the incident was the result of the continued shift from CANDY CLOUDS, whilst being ridden out, rather than the marginal shift from STORMY DRAGON. Jockey A Allens license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 10 days to commence 28th April up to and including 6th April. In determining penalty Stewards placed the level of carelessness and interference in the low range, Stewards also considered Jockey Allens record in relation to the rule as well as relevant precedent. Jockey Allen was advised of his right to an internal review. ELUSIVE WISDOM- Shifted in and bumped passing the 1000m. Raced wide from the 800m. Momentarily held up for clear running at the top of the home straight before shifting out. TRAIN ROCK- Bumped passing the 1000m and raced ungenerously for some distance thereafter. Tightened and obliged to check losing ground soon after entering the home straight. ZESTAR- Raced wide from the 800m. Bumped and dictated inward tightening a runner to its inside soon after entering the home straight. STORMY DRAGON- Laid out passing the 500m. Shifted in marginally rounding the home turn. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 4: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stable representative W Kropp (VAST KAMA) to view the official photo finish. After viewing the photo Mr Kropp was satisfied and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. VOULAIT- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Shifted in and bumped on jumping. NOWYUOMI- Bumped on jumping. Laid in passing the 800m. HUBBUB- Raced wide for the majority. Race 5: MOORE TRAILERS RATINGS BAND 0-58 HANDICAP 2150m Shortly before Jockeys were scheduled to be mounted lightning strikes were identified in close proximity to the course. Consequently, runners were returned to the race-day tie-ups and an indefinite delay was ordered. After approximately 90 minutes delay and adherence to the QRIC and RQ Race meeting Postponement and Abandonment policy, including a Jockey Ballot, discussions with Trainers and Club officials as well as Stewards considerations, the decision was made to abandon the remainder of the meeting due to the persistent presence of lightning in the immediate area.
