A DEVILS CHANCE- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered for the late scratching of the gelding at 9:11am.

JETPACK VERDI- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.

WHYTEEPEE- Raced keenly in the early stages after beginning well and being ridden positively from the inside barrier. Was under pressure from the 800m and commenced to compound from the 600m finishing tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

FAUSTO- Under pressure form the 800m. Commenced to tire noticeably from the 400m and was not pressured from the 200m. Under-went a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards questioned Jockey J Stanley’s riding of the gelding over the concluding stages after being beaten only one (1) length for 4th place. Jockey Stanley advised that his mount had commenced to tire rapidly from the 400m after being ridden vigorously for some distance prior to that, he persisted for a further furlong before identifying his mount was failing to respond to his urgings at which point he ceased those efforts. Jockey Stanley advised further he did recommence urging his mount when he became aware RIGHT LIGHT was finishing off strongly to his outside but his mount was again unresponsive to his efforts. Jockey Stanley also stated that he did not feel his mount slowed after he ceased urging at any point in the home straight. Stewards noted Jockey Stanleys explanation and took no further action other than to remind Jockey Stanley of his obligations under the provisions of AR131(b).

Race 3: TAYLOR BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1300m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed when App T Townsend, rider of 4th placegetter LATIN LYRIC, lodged an objection against 3rd placegetter CALM SEEKER sighting alleged interference approaching the 500m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and the Trainers of the two (2) runners Stewards determined that at that point CALM SEEKER had shifted in marginally and LATIN LYRIC had also shifted out marginally contacting CALM SEEKER on the hindquarters causing it to become unbalanced and shift in slightly further which resulted in LATIC LYRIC becoming crowded and losing ground. As the interference could not be solely attributed to CALM SEEKER the protest was dismissed.

Declaration of correct weight was delayed further to allow stewards to view the start of the race to ensure HAIL TO THE CHIEF had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage it was determined that it was the actions of the gelding which resulted in its being slow away and as such correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

HAIL TO THE CHIEF- Stood flat footed before beginning very awkwardly. Trainer M Nolan was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Following the running of the event App A Donald was tendered to by QAS officers after being struck in the face by the head of her mount when it began awkwardly. QAS officers declared App Donald fit to fulfil her remaining engagements.

UNCLE BUD- Momentarily steadied before shifting out passing the 150m.

CITROUILLE- Began awkwardly. Shifted in abruptly leaving the 200m momentarily hampering another runner. Jockey A Thompson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Stewards queried the seemingly improved performance with Trainer J Gleeson. Mr Gleeson advised that, in his opinion, the was unlucky in its most recent start being disappointed for a run and obliged to ease in the home straight. Additionally, the mare had been working well since and the stable had expected a forward showing. Stewards noted the explanation.

SAM’S A NATURAL- Laid in onto heels and was momentarily eased passing the 800m.

SUPER LEAGUE- Settled further forward than may have been expected. Jockey J Stanley advised that after beginning well and being cognisant of the mare being one paced he permitted his mount to stride forward and remain in a wide position rather than attempting to restrain and obtain cover, as a consequence racing wide for the majority. Stewards noted the explanation.

SHOCK AND AWE- Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 7: MORT & CO BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1625m

ALIRAAJ- Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly down the back straight. After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier elected to restrain in the early stages and obtain cover and a position closer to the inside running rail, consequently settling further back in the field than may have been expected.

IRISH SALLY- Bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. On returning to scale Jockey Geran was found to have sustained an injury to his right foot after being struck by a section of running rail near the 1200m which had been dislodged from its affixed position after being bumped by another runner. Jockey Geran was tendered to by QAS officers and transported to Hospital for treatment. Remedial work was conducted on the section of rail which had become dislodged and the remained of the course proper inside running rail was also inspected by Toowoomba Turf Club staff.

BRING ME- Tightened on jumping. Shifted in when not fully clear of TERESHKOVA passing the 350m causing that runner to be tightened, restrained and shift in tightening ELUSIVE WISDOM which bumped the inside running rail, became unbalanced and lost ground. Jockey J Stanley was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference as well as Jockey Stanleys excellent record in relation to the rule over an extended period which was considered to be a mitigating factor.
