Race 1: TAB BETS FRIENDS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1100 metres

MISS JOELENE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MISS CANTIK – Steadied from heels near the 800m.

Following the running of this event it was identified that a section of the course proper inside running rail between the 600m-500m had become detached from its affixed position. Toowoomba Turf Club staff undertook remedial works on that section and examined the entirety of the inside running rail without identifying any further issues.

Race 2: HAHN ULTRA LOW CARB LAGER Maiden Plate 1000 metres

BLUEPRINT – Laid in near the 650m, tightening SALAMATINA which was steadied. Trainer B. Dais will be advised that a warning will be placed on the racing manners of the gelding. Raced wide throughout.

CRYPTO TYCOON – Stewards acceded to a request by trainer D. Forster for a late gear change to remove the ear-muffs and the crossover nose band from the gelding. This information was advertised by way of on-course announcement and social media address. Trainer D. Forster was fined $400 under the provisions of AR 206(2).

HURTS SO GOOD – Trainer M. Currie was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 211 for failing to notify the horse had undergone a gelding procedure. Laid in approaching the 600m despite the efforts of its rider, taking GOOD’N’LUCKY inward and bumping with GOLDEN GROVE which made contact with the inside running rail. Trainer M. Currie was advised that a warning would be placed on the racing manners of the gelding. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in home straight.

BEAN DANCING – Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. After racing wide in the early stages, was permitted to stride forward and obtain a one-off position outside the leader near the 800m. Trainer D. Baker stated that, in his opinion, the gelding is better suited when ridden in a quieter fashion with cover and the additional work required of the gelding in the early stages of the event was a telling factor in the finish. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

BETTER ETHICS – Improved onto heels near the 500m and was steadied.

Race 4: POWERS ULTRA SMOOTH LAGER BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1300 metres

AZZAREACH – When asked to comment on the poor performance of the gelding, App Y. Lewis stated she was able to lead as per her instructions after beginning only fairly and being ridden positively, adding further that AZZAREACH raced keen in the middle stages and when asked for an effort from the 400m was found wanting. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards intend to interview Trainer D. Bougoure regarding the performance of the gelding.

HE KNOWS – Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer M Harry was advised that gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.

POINT THE WAGON – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer V. Heading was advised that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the gelding before racing again.

NO GOING BACK – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and then raced keenly down the back straight. Laid in approaching the 300m.

SPIRIT OF BEANS – As Jockey L Tilley was overweight, he was replaced by J. Stanley. Jockey L. Tilley was fined $300 under the provisions of AR190(3). Laid out near the 1500m resulting in CANNY CAT having to be steadied from heels. When asked to comment on the poor performance, Jockey J. Stanley stated that, in his opinion, the gelding did not appreciate the undulating track or the prevailing racing conditions. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities.

TOO HARD TO REFUSE – Obliged to shift out on the track rounding the home turn to obtain clear running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an unspecified jaw condition. Trainer D Forster was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race.

HUE – Steadied when crowded for room passing the 800m when SNOW BOUM laid in and away from DEEP FIRE. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight and near the 100m momentarily hampered TOBA which had to be steadied.
