Race 1: 1EQUINE- FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200m)

BOOM BY BY – Stewards permitted Apprentice L. O’Donnell to claim 2kg of her 3kg allowance when she was unable to claim down to her minimum allowance and no other apprentice rider was available. App. O’Donnell was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(a). Began awkwardly and was bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

MICRO – Began awkwardly and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in abruptly in the early stages of the home straight.

BASIL’S BOW – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. Jockey N. Tomizawa was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

CAPITAN DE SEDA – Began awkwardly and was bumped.

TEMPTRESS KATIE – Momentarily crowded approaching the 500m.

HYPER VELOCITY – Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary revealed a slow post-race recovery. Apprentice S. Champkin advised her mount had been inclined to lay out throughout and proved difficult to ride out over the concluding stages. Trainer C. Johnstone stated the stable was disappointed with the performance and had expected a more forward showing. Trainer C. Johnstone further advised that the stable would look to experiment with the gelding’s gear and undertook to advise Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the gelding’s condition in the coming days.

Race 2: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LUKE MICHAEL GEORGE MAIDEN PLATE (1200m)

HECTOR SAGOA – Began awkwardly and was bumped.

THE REAL SAINT – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after contacting the fence exiting the mounting yard and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly and was bumped, before being taken wider and becoming awkwardly placed on heels and obliged to ease. Raced keenly in the early stages.

SHE’S MAY DAISY – Improved into restricted room leaving the 1100m and was obliged to restrain, losing ground as a result. Raced ungenerously for some distance thereafter.

SALACIA – After beginning only fairly from the widest barrier was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed shin soreness and lameness in the near foreleg. Trainer M. Currie was advised the filly would require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again. Jockey J. Stanley was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. Trainer M. Currie advised that, in his opinion, the filly which was having its first race start, was over-represented in the betting market and the stable was satisfied with the performance.

SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR – Stewards permitted Apprentice L. O’Donnell to claim only 2.5kg of her 3kg allowance when she was unable to claim down to her minimum allowance and no other apprentice rider was available. Geran were satisfied a margin was present and Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

BREAKWATER – Over-raced in the early stages. When commencing to give ground became momentarily crowded and awkwardly placed on heels over the concluding stages. Performed below market expectations. Apprentice J. Molloy advised he had been instructed to attempt to obtain the lead, however if challenged to attempt to obtain cover. App. Molloy added, in hindsight, he erred by not permitting his mount to stride forward after it became apparent it was resenting being restrained. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. App. J Molloy was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

PREPOTENT – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure during the early stages of the home straight.

MISHANI MISSILE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event.

Race 4 NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 4 HANDICAP (1300m):

LIGHTFAST – Laid out rounding the home turn. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, specifically why electing to shift off the fence leaving the 800m when travelling behind SOUTH PARADE before continuing to shift wider rounding the home turn. Race 6 SHEPPARD EARTHMOVING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP (870m):

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the start. After viewing the official patrol footage, it was ascertained that as the start was effected, MRS ROBINSON reared and contacted the front gates causing them to open marginally early. As the filly’s poor start was directly attributable to its barrier manners and Stewards were of the opinion there were no grounds for it to be declared a non-runner; correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers.

BOOGA RAY – Slow to begin.

MRS ROBINSON – Reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Nolan was advised the filly would now be suspended from racing for its barrier manners and would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate.

MISS CANTIK – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

LA SWISH – Crowded passing the 700m and again passing the 500m when commencing to lay out.
