QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY, 27 MAY 2023 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – True OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. Higgins & D Hodgson GENERAL Race 1- THE REAL SAINT – Stewards accepted Trainer C. White’s reason for the late declaration of Jockey N. Evans as the rider of the mare; nonetheless she was reminded of her obligations. Race 2- GREYT ATTENTIONS - As App M. Castle was unable to attend due to delays at Ipswich Races, Stewards permitted App A Donald to be declared the replacement rider. Race 1: HAPPY 18TH HARRISON Maiden Plate (1300m) LARRIKIN REG – Under pressure from the 600m and compounded in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Burns was advised the gelding was now suspended from TAB meetings until its form at non-TABs improved. BRINGME – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PABALLO – Over-raced intermittently throughout the event. TRAIN ROCK – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Near the 900m bumped with SUPER SWEET. Held up rounding the home turn, before attempting to improve into a marginal run outside of SNAP THE LUCK and bumped with SUPER SWEET causing that runner to become unbalanced and shift in and was consequently forced across the heels of SNAP THE LUCK having to be restrained. SNAP THE LUCK- Shifted in on straightening. REBEL LASS – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. SUCREE – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider C. Eaton reported the mare hung-out throughout the event. SUPER SWEET – Bumped approaching the 900m. Bumped and became unbalanced on entering the home straight before shifting in. Laid in, in the home straight. Momentarily crowded between TRAIN ROCK and BRINGME approaching the 150m. Jockey R Jamieson advised on returning to scale that she had minor soreness in her right ankle. THE REAL SAINT – Over-raced on heels and became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 900m. PORTOLA (NZ) – Slow to begin. Race 2: MILDRED'S 60TH BIRTHDAY BASH RATIINGS BAND 0 – 58 Handicap (1300m) BASIL'S BOW – Blundered on jumping before being bumped. START STRUTTING – Improved onto heels passing the 300m, obliging its rider to steady and shift in to obtain clear running. Again, improved onto heels approaching the 200m having to be restrained. TAKUNAI – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Jockey A. Thompson reported that the gelding did not appreciate the undulating track surface. SEENUSCOMING – Performed disappointingly. Jockey N. Evans could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance stating his mount travelled well but failed to let down in the home straight. An immediate post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A further veterinary examination also failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. BULL DIMPLE RUM – Approaching the 100m, shifted out and bumped SHOTGUM SAM. DRAGON PINS – Over-raced intermittently throughout the event. SHOTGUN SAM – Bumped approaching the 100m. POWERWOLF (NZ) After beginning only fairly, failed to show sufficient early speed to obtain a forward position, subsequently settling further back than may have been expected. GREYT INTENTIONS – Began awkwardly and bumped BASIL’S BOW. Race 3: LAWRENCE & HANSON BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1200m) Correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo finish for 2nd place. Once satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers. JAKAMA – Began awkwardly and was awkwardly placed on heels soon after the start. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after and again at the 900m. Bumped with READY BABE approaching the 450m. CRACKER ESSGEE – Momentarily inconvenienced when READY BABE shifted in at the 1000m. Again, became awkwardly placed on heels approaching 900m. Laid in leaving the 800m. READY BABE – Shifted out abruptly on jumping. Shifted in passing the 1000m momentarily inconveniencing CRACKER ESSGEE. App O O’Donnell was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. Raced keenly on heels leaving the 900m. Momentarily crowded at the 450m and bumped. RUBY'S LAD – Became awkwardly placed on heels shortly after the start. Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels at the 900m and again at the 800m. Raced wide from the 800m. Race 4: ENERGETIC LIGHTING & TRADER ELECTRICAL Class 2 Plate (1625m) JERONIMOS (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. OUR CASTAWAY – Raced keenly in the early stages. ZABCAN – Held up rounding the home turn. DEMON DELIVERA – Fractious prior to the start being effected. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey J. Stanley stated the gelding travelled well throughout, however after being bumped on entering the home straight, failed to respond to his efforts and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. TEA LEAVES – Began only fairly. Raced wide and without cover before being allowed to stride forward and obtain a position outside the leader approaching the 800m. Approaching the 300m, buffeted between DEMON DELIVERA and ANYWAY YOU WANT IT when commencing to weaken. ADALISSA – Improved onto heels approaching the 800m and obliged to be eased. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. DAZZLING FLASH – Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn. PRITI PIPER – Began awkwardly and bumped OUR CASTAWAY. Shortly afterwards, crowded for room and obliged to steady between STAR DIVA and OUR CASTAWAY, both of which shifted ground. STAR DIVA – Improved onto the heels of ZABCAN approaching the 400m, becoming momentarily held up for clear running. Race 5: HAYMANS BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1850m) BETTER ETHICS – Raced keenly in the middle stages of the event. When questioned regarding the performance, Apprentice J. Molloy stated the gelding was not suited by the weight impost, despite the claim. He further added the gelding was inclined to over-race, which proved telling over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. VAN GOGH – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainers representative C. Richardson stated that the gelding hadn’t been suited by the pace in its previous starts, and the step-up in distance proved significant factors in the gelding’s winning chances. FIREBOX – When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey J. Stanley stated his mount hadn’t been suited by the pace of the event and, in his opinion, would be better suited to racing over further distances. OUR SPIDER – Began awkwardly. Became under pressure from the 600m. Jockey R Jamieson stated her mount had been under pressure from near the 600m but in the home straight failed to respond to her efforts. Trainer J. Thomas could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and undertook to report back to Stewards in the coming days should anything become apparent with eh geldings condition. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. KNEZE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. CONSULAR – Began only fairly. Laid out and away from the running rail rounding the first turn. Following the running of the event App S. Callow was examined by QAS Officers for an injury sustained to her left hand. Race 6: DAIKIN BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1200m) SUBSTITUTION – Reared as the start was effected, subsequently beginning very awkwardly and lost ground. Allowed to stride forward approaching the 900m and subsequently raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the event. Trainer M. Currie was advised that the gelding would have a warning placed on its record for its barrier manners. MAGIC IN ME – Began awkwardly, shifted in, and bumped ALL’S FAIR. AVOCA – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped BOOM BY BY. BOOM BY BY- Bumped on jumping. Laid in over the concluding stages, momentarily having to be steadied off heels. ELECTRIC – Bumped approaching the 900m. TO LOVE SOMEBODY- Bumped approaching the 900m. SQUEEZE DIS - Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. ALL'S FAIR – Bumped on jumping. POWER SISTER – When questioned, Jockey M. Hellyer stated that the mare would derive a fitness benefit from the run, after being declared a late scratching at the Gold Coast at its more recent race-day appearance. He further stated he was not dissatisfied with the performance. Race 7: AUSTEC QTIS Three-Year-Old BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1200m) MATILLY – Began awkwardly. BY BY BEAN – On returning to scale Jockey N Fazackerley advised he mount felt off in its action. A post-race veterinary examination identified the gelding to have back soreness and to be suffering from general discomfort. Trainer J Hanna was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. MY MOSES – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MATILLY. Approaching the 1000m made contact with the running rail.
