Molloy, M. Potgieter, and M. Murphy were all indisposed due to injury, Stewards permitted rider changes as per race day summary. As App L O’Donnell was unable to fulfil her remaining engagements following Race 2 due to illness, Stewards permitted replacements as per Stewards race day summary. Stewards permitted the following overweights:Race 2 - Adin Thompson +1kgRace 6 - Adin Thompson +1kg Race 1: PRYDE'S EASIFEED BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1000m) THERESABEARINTHERE – Momentarily crowded near the 800m. INCOMPARABLE – Began awkwardly. WOLFF BOSS – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Apprentice S. Callow could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance and stated the gelding failed to respond when placed under pressure. Stable representative K. Zahmel stated the stable weren’t overly disappointed with the performance, resuming first-up from a spell and with the expected early tempo the gelding was beaten for speed. Stewards noted the comments. AMERICAN RED – Shifted in momentarily approaching the 800m, momentarily crowding SUPER THIEF and THERESABEARINTHERE. App S. Champkin was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. RUSHEEN – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. THERESABEARINTHERE- Momentarily crowded near the 800m. SUPER THIEF (NZ) – Raced keenly when being restrained in the early stages. Momentarily crowded near the 800m. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. Race 2: HAPPY 32ND BIRTHDAY ROHAN MCVEIGH BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1200m) MILL ROSSA – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 1100m shifted in when not fully clear of STEINBRENNER and BLACK WHITTO. Apprentice L. O’Donnell was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. SCRIPT WRITER – Bumped on jumping and became awkward on heels shortly after. STEINBRENNER (NZ) Momentarily hampered approaching the 1100m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. BOOM GATE – Began awkwardly. OAKFIELD TARGET – Laid in and away from heels near the 150m. I AM A HIT – Slow to begin. Approaching the 150m obliged to shift wider across heels to obtain clear running. SCHMOOZER – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. Performed disappointingly. A post-veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. App J. Lloyd could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than that, in his opinion, the gelding was unable to sustain the tempo with the drop back in distance from its previous start. DELANEY'S GIRL – Bean awkwardly and bumped. BLACK WHITTO – Momentarily hampered approaching the 1100m. Race 3: NEIL MANSELL GROUP Class 1 Handicap (1200m) RIVER DANZKA – Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped the running rail approaching the 900m. Performed disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the right-hind leg. Stable representative L Schwenke was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. ARTIE BEATSOME – Began awkwardly and bumped. OUTLAW JOSEY WALES – Obliged to ease off heels soon after the start before shifting in to obtain a position with cover. Leaving the 800m commenced to race keenly on heels. Continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter. Held-up rounding the home turn. BRINGME – Approaching the 900m shifted out abruptly when shying from the inside running rail which had been bumped by another runner. Momentarily held-up on heels approaching the 100m. App A. Donald reported that the gelding hung-out throughout the event. CHANTISS – Obliged to restrain off heels approaching the 900m. FAVOURITE THINGS – Over-raced throughout the event. FASTNET JACK – Began awkwardly. Obliged to restrain off heels approaching the 900m. SUNNY EKCELS – Approaching the 600m commenced to noticeably. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary revealed soreness across the back. Jockey A. Thompson reported that in his opinion he thought the gelding had gone amiss. Trainer A. Park was advised that a veterinary clearance was required prior to racing again. Race 4: TOOWOOMBA PLASTICS Class 1 Handicap (1200m) SIR BEVERIDGE – Approaching the 100m checked and obliged to be shifted out away from heels. BOOM BY BY – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. ZEITAKUNA – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. Bumped approaching the 200m. SUKICHE – Held up approaching the 400m and obliged to steady when disappointed for a run. DISTANT SECRET – Laid in approaching the 300m tightening MOVE BEYOND. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to exercise greater care. Inconvenienced and bumped approaching the 100m. MY MOSES – Bumped the running rail approaching the 900m. Raced keenly on heels from the 600m to the 500m. After improving onto heels shifted out abruptly approaching the 100m to obtain clear running. Apprentice S. Callow pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding AR131(a) in that she did allow her mount to shift out causing SIR BEVERIDGE to be checked and shift out bumping with DISTANT SECRET. App S. Callow’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days, commencing from 25 June 2023 up to 8 July 2023. In determining penalty Stewards determined the degree of carelessness and severity of interference to be in the mid-range. Stewards also noted App Callows guilty plea as well as her poor recent record in relation to the rule. App Callow was advised of her right to an appeal. MOVE BEYOND – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Momentarily steadied approaching the 350m. DIVENIRE – Held up for clear running in the early parts of the home straight. When attempting to obtain an unlikely run bumped with ZEITAKUNA approaching the 200m and was obliged to restrain. When Stewards queried App S. Champkin’s tactics in the home straight, she agreed she had erred by not maintaining her position and attempting to secure a run to the inside of BOOM BY BY. Race 5: MOCO FOOD SERVICES Maiden Plate (1200m) MORE MAX – Crowded approaching the 800m. DECIDER – From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Became keen on heels approaching the 1000m. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Improved onto heels approaching the 400m before shifting wider. REBEL LASS – Declared a late scratching at 7:14pm when the filly refused to proceed to the start. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the filly were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 7:14pm: 2cents in the dollar for the win7cents in the dollar for the place on the winner2cents in the dollar for 2nd place2cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer K. Kemp advised connections would now consider retiring the filly, nonetheless Mr Kemp was advised the filly would be required to trial prior to racing again. THE REAL SAINT – When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, Trainer C. White advised the mare had pleased in its recent work and the stable had expected a forward showing. Ms White noted further that the mares most recent performances had not, in her opinion, been overly disappointing. BRONZE MEMORY – Held up for clear running entering the home straight until a point leaving the 100m. Race 6: GERRY BROWN'S SHELVING & STORAGE BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1850m) HE'S VIRAL (NZ) – Taken in over the concluding stages when KNEZE laid in. Shifted in marginally approaching the 500m tightening KNEZE and SANDGATE ROAD. App A. Donald was obliged to exercise greater care. MANTINELLO – Stood flat-footed as the start was effect. Trainer H. Richardson was advised the gelding would be required to gain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. OUR SPIDER – A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GENERAL ELLIOT – Rider N. Evans was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(iii) in that he did use his whip on six occasions prior to the 100m. SANDGATE ROAD – Raced keenly in the early stages. Tightened and obliged to steady approaching the 500m and lost ground. KNEZE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Over-raced approaching the 1500m. Crowded and obliged to shift in approaching the 500m. Lost its off-side plate in running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ALBERT THE ROCKET – From the wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Race 7: EUREKA STUD QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap (1000m) CAPE CRUSADER – Held up on heels over the concluding stages. VONCOSTENUFF – Bumped at the start. BORN TO BE ALIVE – Bumped at the start. Laid in abruptly when entering the home straight. CHIRRUP – Underwent a Veterinary examination at the barriers and was declared a late scratching at 8:18pm on veterinary advice when found to be lame in the off-foreleg. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the filly were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 8:18pm: 12cents in the dollar for the win8cents in the dollar for the place on the winner24cents in the dollar for 2nd place Trainer M. Nolan was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the filly again being permitted to start in a race. CONTRICK – After beginning on terms failed to muster sufficient speed despite the efforts of it rider and consequently trailed the field for majority of the event. Race 8: SEDL AGENCIES Maiden Handicap (1625m) POINT GUARD – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Improved onto heels approaching the 500m having to be steadied. SUPER RUPERT – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. MONGOLIAN FLAME (NZ) – Raced keenly in the back straight.
