QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY 1, JULY 2023 WEATHER – OVERCAST TRACK RATING – GOOD 4 RAIL – +1m ENTIREPENETROMETER – 5.7 OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. BobbescoStarter – C Higgins SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Apprentices J. Molloy and L. Sykes were fined $100 respectively under AR122(6) in that they did complete trackwork on the morning of Thursday, 29 June 2023 without an affixed safety warning light attached to their helmets. GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweight:Race 6 – C. Thompson – 1/2kg + 55kgRace 6 – M. Powell – 1/2kg + 55kg Race 1: Pittsworth Danes Football Club Class 2 Handicap (1300m) The start of the race was slightly delayed when the blinkers of ENTERPRISE BELLA had to be refitted in the barriers. SCRIPT WRITER – Stood flat-footed and was subsequently very slow to begin. Trainer C. Anderson was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s record. CAPITAN DE SEDA – After beginning well from an inside barrier was ridden positively in the early stages to settle in a position that may have been further forward than expected. COAXIAL – After beginning only fairly from a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages to obtain a position with cover and subsequently may have settled further back than expected. SEMPREINTE – Bumped rounding the home turn. MONDAY MONDAY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. HARBELLE – Slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer M. Currie advised the mare, which was first-up from a spell would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run and is better suited over further distances. VONZITHER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held-up rounding the home turn. Shifted out approaching the 300m and bumped SEMPREINTE when attempting to obtain clear running. Race 2: Vale Terry Lucas BENCHMARK 62 Handicap (1000m) Correct weight was delayed to allow Jockey C. Taylor to view the footage of the concluding stages. Upon viewing, C. Taylor (ROWDASH) lodged a protest against second placegetter, ORACOLO (Jockey L. Tilley) alleging interference over the concluding stages. After considering evidence, the degree and location of interference and the racing manners of both runners, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the interference could be solely attributed to ORACALO and considered the shift from the outside runner CRACK THE DOOM (O. Webb) to have been a contributing factor to the tightening of ROWDASH. As such, Stewards dismissed the protest and ordered correct weight on the Judges semaphored numbers. OTELO – Began awkwardly. Laid in soon after entering the home straight despite the efforts of its rider, tightening CRACK OF DOOM onto ROWDASH. Trainer R. Hilton was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s racing manners for laying in. ORACOLO – Slow into stride. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. CRACK OF DOOM – Tightened near the 200m and obliged to steady and shift in. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages, tightening ROWDASH. Apprentice O. Webb was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a) and advised to stop and straighten her mounts sooner in similar circumstances. WHERE'S TEKAY NOW – Raced wide and without cover for majority for the event. ROWDASH – Began awkwardly. Held up on heels rounding the home-turn. Tightened passing the 200m, shifted in and bumped LUCIFER’S LOOT which became monetarily unbalanced. Tightened over concluding stages between ORACOLO and CRACK OF DOOM. YOU ESS ESS ARE – Raced wide and without cover for majority for the event. Laid out rounding the home turn. Race 3: Nutrien Ag - Pittsworth BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1000m) ICED – Slow to begin. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Shifted wider around heels when the pace slackened at the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the nearside hind. Trainer J Crompton was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. AMERICAN RED – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Trainer M. Nolan stated the stable was not dissatisfied with the performance given the wide run and in its previous starts was able to dictate and lead from the early stages and was better suited when ridden in that fashion. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the left-hind leg. Trainer M Nolan was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the gelding again being permitted to start in a race. INCOMPARABLE – Approaching the 100m shifted wider around heels to obtain clear running. NEVER SAY NAY – Harmlessly dislodged Jockey A. Thompson leaving the mounting yard. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barrier and was passed fit to start. Raced keenly on heels when the pace slackened approaching the 500m. AL PAL'S GAL – Bumped with NEVER SAY NAY shortly after jumping. Leaving the 800m improved onto the heels of SUPER THIEF and was obliged to be steadied. Raced keenly on heels when the pace slackened approaching the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SENSATIONAL REWARD – Performed below market expectations. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey G. Cartwright stated the gelding travelled fairly throughout but when asked for an effort on straightening proved disappointing. Trainer’s Representative K. Zahmel could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance having expected a forward showing and advised the stable would report back in subsequent days. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. SUPER THIEF (NZ) – Trainer M. Currie was fined $200 under LR36(6) for failing to scratch the dual acceptor by the prescribed time. Raced wide and without cover in the early stages. Leaving the 800m shifted in to obtain cover, momentarily hampering AL PAL’S GAL which was improving at that stage. Jockey A. Allen was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced keenly on heels when the pace slackened approaching the 500m and consequently held up rounding the home turn. SADDLE BOY – Slow into stride. Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight before being eased and shifted wider passing the 150m to obtain clear running. Race 4: Oakey Beef Exports BENCHMARK 65 Handicap (1625m) RUBY'S LAD – Slow to begin and bumped. Approaching the 1400m improved onto heels obliging its rider to restrain and shift wider. TERRIUS – Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey N Tomizawa reported the gelding hung-out for majority of the event. Rider N. Tomizawa was reminded of his obligations under AR131(c) to not excessively slacken the pace. POINT THE WAGON – Raced keenly in the middle stages. RAPIDO GRIS – Steadied off heels approaching the 1400m. UNION SPIRIT – After beginning only fairly was restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover and subsequently settled further back than may have been expected. Approaching the 1000m improved onto the heels and was restrained. Held-up from the 600m until a point approaching the 300m. DELANEY'S GIRL – Taken wider and bumped with BUMP’N’RUN when LUCKY BEAN shifted out. Lost ground as a result. LUCKY BEAN – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Commenced to over-race at the 1000m when the pace slackened and was shifted out to avoid heels and consequently inconvenienced DELANEY’S GIRL. App A. Donald was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. BUMP'N'RUN – Bumped and taken wider when LUCKY BEAN shifted out when over-racing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. WITCH DAY - Approaching the 1000m improved onto the heels and was restrained. Race 5: CNW Electrical QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1000m) MASTER GEE – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. THIS IS ONE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers after contacting the mounting yard gate and was passed fit to start. NEW JET – Declared a late scratching at 7:18pm after dislodging its App D. McGillivray in the mounting yard. App McGillivray was deemed unfit to fulfil his engagement. Apprentice McGillivray was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 7:18pm: 3cents in the dollar for the Win 3cents in the dollar for the Place Apprentice McGillivray was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to race riding again. TRACONI'S PRIDE – Over-raced on heels leaving the 700m. Raced greenly thereafter. TIME TO LAUNCH – Began awkwardly and bumped before shifting in marginally momentarily crowding AUNTIE HAZEL BASIL'S GIFT – Slow to begin. Improved onto heels leaving the 600m and raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Laid out leaving the 400m. LA BELLA DIVA – Below market expectations. When questioned, Jockey J. Stanley stated after beginning only fairly, he subsequently settled further back than anticipated and let down only fairly when placed under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. PUREZZA – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. SISTER GEORGIA – Co-trainer C. Geran was fined $100 under the provisions of AR227(a) for failing to comply with the rider overweight directive and declare that Jockey M. Powell would be +0.5kg over the allotted weight of 54.5kg by the prescribed time. Co-Trainer C. Geran advised following the event, the mare was found to have lost its tongue-tie during the event. AUNTY HAZEL – Momentarily crowded after the start. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, Trainer S. Kirkwood stated the filly had matured during its break from racing and the stable had expected a forward showing. Apprentice S. Champkin was reminded of her obligations under AR131(b) to ride her mounts fully out to the finish. Race 6: Pittsworth Bowls Club QTIS Two-Year-Old Maiden Handicap (1200m) THE PUNISHER – Shifted in abruptly away from another runner approaching the 1000m, when insufficiently clear of THE QUICKENING which was restrained and taken in across the running of PSYCHEDELIC BEAN which was checked and blundered soon after. Jockey N. Tomizawa was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a). In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of the nature of the inexperienced horses involved in the incident however advised Jockey Tomizawa that he needs to exercise greater effort in correcting his mounts sooner, in similar circumstances. Bumped near the 500m. BORN TO BE ALIVE – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 500m, when attempting to shift out and improve bumped THE PUNISHER. CHIRRUP – Slow to begin. NEW JOY – Slow into stride and became awkward on heels soon after. CYCLE OF ADDICTION – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off-foreleg. Trainer J. Sims advised connections would now consider its immediate racing future. Nonetheless, the stable was advised a trial and veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. PSYCHEDELIC BEAN – Checked approaching the 1000m and blundered soon after. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Commenced to tire passing the 400m. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations consistent with being galloped on in running. THE QUICKENING – Approaching the 1100m was tightened and shifted in, bumping PSYCHEDELIC BEAN. Race 7: Vale Rodney Higgins Maiden Plate (1890m) POINT GUARD – Began awkwardly. LOLA STAR – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
