WarrenStewards – J. Childs, E. Tickner & W. Glass Clerk of Scales – A. Cuckson Judge – S. Fahey & M. Fahey Veterinarian – Dr C. Bowden-BettsSwab Attendants – A. ChallenStarter – C. Higgins & D Hodgson GENERAL As Apprentice T. Fenlon was indisposed due to personal reasons, and Apprentice J. Molloy was indisposed due to injury, replacements were made as per the Stewards’ Raceday Summary. Apprentice J. Molloy was advised that he would require a medical clearance and cognitive assessment prior to race-riding again. Race 1: Donaldson Law BM58 Handicap (1300m) CITROUILLE- Was declared a late scratching at 4:42pm on veterinary advice after found to be lame in the right-hind leg. Trainer J Gleeson was advised that a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to the mare again being permitted to start in a race. RELICTA – Bumped on jumping. ZELSON – Began only fairly. Laid in under pressure from the 500m. Rider K. Yoshida was reminded of his obligations regarding the use of his whip when out of contention. MONDAY MONDAY – Tightened and obliged to be retrained over the concluding stages when PARUES shifted in when insufficiently clear. PARUES – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Jockey A. Thompson reported the gelding wasn’t suited over the 1300m and would be better suited over shorter distances. Shifted in. Jockey A. Thompson pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding over the concluding stages in that he did allow his mount to shift in over the concluding stages when insufficiently clear of MONDAY MONDAY, which was obliged to restrain and lost its rightful running. Jockey A. Thompson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing Sunday, 6 August 2023 up to and including Monday 13August 2023. ANGELS SHARE – Began only fairly. Lost the near-side winker leaving the 400m. KIKI COCO – Approaching the 200m, obliged to restrain when disappointed for a marginal run to the inside of MONDAY MONDAY and subsequently went to the line untested. BIE'RES – Stewards accepted Jockey C. Taylor as the replacement rider when no other apprentice was available. Began awkwardly and bumped RELICTA. Laid out leaving the 900m. MILAGRO – Became momentarily awkward on heels shortly after the start. CITROUILLE – Underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off hind-leg and was declared a late scratching on vet’s advice at 4:42pm. Trainer J. Gleeson was advised a veterinary clearance was required prior to racing again.IN A MINUTE RILEY – When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, co-trainer C. Geran stated the mare had been pleasing in its work and in their opinion was under-represented in the betting market considering its strong non-TAB form coming into the event. Race 2: Picket Fence Properties Class 1 Handicap (870m) LATIN JAZZ- Declared a late scratching at 4:31pm on veterinary advice after found to have a laceration and swelling over the left-hip as a consequence of becoming fractious in the horse transport vehicle. Trainer J Capewell was advised the filly would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. DEL ROUTI – Buffeted on jumping. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. FROZEN AWARD – Bumped on jumping. Jockey L. McCoy was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary revealed a slow recovery. TOKYO SINS – Began awkwardly and bumped. Held up on heels leaving the 400m until the early part of the home straight. MINOKAWA – Restrained near the 700m in an attempt to obtain a position with cover. DOUBLE COCO – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. MISSILES ARMED – Slow into stride. SHE'S SO VAIN – Bumped on jumping. Bumped the running rail near the 600m. Race 3: JG Audit & Assurance QTIS Three-Years-Old Class 1 Plate (1200m) Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards considered a protest from 4th placegetter, Apprentice S. Champkin (AUNTY HAZEL), against 3rd placegetter, A. Thompson (ANCIENT MISSION), alleging interference in the home straight. After considering the evidence and patrol footage, Stewards couldn’t be comfortably satisfied that the interference was solely attributable to ANCIENT MISSION and as such Stewards subsequently dismissed the protest with correct weight declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. MY MOSES – Entering the home straight laid out inconveniencing AUNTY HAZEL. Approaching the 150m laid in under pressure bumping the hindquarters of ANCIENT MISSION, causing that runner to become unbalanced and shift out, before being tightened for room and eased. POWERFUL EAGLE – Raced keenly in the early stages and bumped the running rail approaching the 900m when being crossed. Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight. Jockey C. Whiteley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip 16 times, 2 more than permitted, throughout the event. ANCIENT MISSION – Bumped on jumping. Laid out rounding the home turn. Approaching the 150m was bumped on the hindquarters by MY MOSES and became unbalanced. AUNTY HAZEL – Laid in marginally on entering the home straight and became awkwardly placed on the heels of MY MOSES, which laid out, having to be eased. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. PHEEBLE'S SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping. From a wide barrier was shifted behind runners in the early stages. Race 4: Redgate Finance BM70 Handicap (1200m) MILL ROSSA – Began awkwardly. RUSHEEN – Jockey J. Orman could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than the gelding may not have been suited to the step-up to 1200m. Trainer M Currie advised the stable had expected a forward showing and were disappointed with the performance. A post-race veterinary revealed no abnormalities. CRACKER ESSGEE – Harmlessly dislodged Apprentice O. Webb enroute to the barriers. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. FLYING JOY – Began awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 500m and then held up for clear running entering the home straight until the 200m when shifted to the inside of the runner. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. BRAVE WARRIOR – Raced keenly in the early stages. Race 5: Michael Buck IP Class 3 Handicap (1000m) Correct weight was delayed allowing Stewards to view the photo for 3rd. One satisfied, correct weight was declared on the Judges’ semaphored numbers. UNCLE FRANK – Inconvenienced approaching the 900m. Performed below market expectations. Trainer R Kirkwood undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition in the coming days. MONTANA LADY – Crowded for room approaching the 800m. SONIC ARROW – Inconvenienced UNCLE FRANK approaching the 900m when shifting in. Jockey A. Thompson was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Bumped with SMILING ZAC (NZ) approaching the 400m. SMILING ZAC (NZ) – Approaching the 800m crowded for room and taken inwards between runners. Over-raced on heels when being restrained near the 600m. Again, restrained off heels approaching the 400m before bumping with SONIC ARROW shortly after. HEART OF KINGS – Momentarily eased approaching the 400m when crowded. Race 6: Calibre Advisors Maiden Plate (1300m) DIS IS DUKE – Raced wide and without cover from the 800m. ANTICA LASS – Became awkwardly placed on heels shortly after the start. SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR – Laid out under pressure from the 400m. On entering the home straight, when commencing to tire, shifted out and bumped BRIDGET WENLOCK. Apprentice A. Donald advised that the gelding hung-out for the majority and proved disappointing. ST ROSE – Bumped on jumping. Momentarily held up on heels entering the home straight. BRIDGET WENLOCK – Proved very difficult to load and delayed the start. Rounding the home turn bumped when SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR commenced to weaken. Trainer T. Lambourn was advised the mare would now be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again. MADAM ROCK – Began awkwardly and bumped. Improved onto heels entering the home straight. PICADOR – Began awkwardly. Bumped rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn the entirety of the home straight. TAKE A PICTURE- After beginning well from the inside barrier was ridden positively in the early stages and settled further forward than may have been expected. Race 7: ENZED Toowoomba BM60 Handicap (1625m) SLY CORNER (NZ) – Laid out rounding the 400m. Leaving the 400m bumped with TROPIC SANDS. IRONSIDE – Began awkwardly. Near the 400m shifted out and away from heels. Hung-in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out. PERFECT LEGACY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near-foreleg. Trainer L. Hatch was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. BLUE CORNER – Began awkwardly. Jockey N. Evans reported that the mare felt awkward in its action and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary revealed no abnormalities. TROPIC SANDS – Bumped leaving the 400m. Momentarily held-up entering the home straight. Passing the 200m was obliged to be shifted in and away from heels. Momentarily crowded passing the 100m. ALALTUN (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. EXTASSY – Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary revealed no abnormalities. Race 8: Vale Richie Stephenson Maiden Handicap (1625m) ADELATION – Raced keenly in the early stages. SISTINE CHAPEL – Jockey K. Zechner was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that he did allow his mount to continually shift in from the 100m when insufficiently clear of HECTOR SAGOA (NZ), which was dictated onto the heels of ITALIAN VIRTUOSO and obliged to restrain. Jockey K. Zechner’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days commencing Sunday, 6 August up to and including Friday, 17 August 2023. CARGO (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced wide and without cover throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. A DEVIL'S CHANCE – After being marginally slow to begin was crowded soon after and obliged to steady. Taken wider approaching the 200m, inconveniencing LICENCE TO THRILL. Jockey M. Savva was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding.HECTOR SAGOA (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Held up rounding the home turn. Passing the 200m disappointed for a run. Passing the 100m was obliged to restrain when SISTINE CHAPEL shifted in when insufficiently clear, went to the line largely untested. LICENCE TO THRILL – Raced keenly from the 1300m. Raced wide and without cover from the 700m. Inconvenienced approaching the 200m. LOLA STAR – Slow to begin. Leaving the 200m shifted out and around heels taking A DEVIL’S CHANCE wider resulting in LICENCE TO THRILL being inconvenienced. Apprentice S. Champkin was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer A Park advised the filly had improved in her work since its most recent start, adding that, in her opinion, the filly is better suited to the mile than further distances.
