Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting:

Race 2- Jockey A Allen +1/2kg
Race 3- Jockey C Taylor +1/2kg

Race 1: NATIONAL JOCKEY CELEBRATION DAY BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1300m

REALSIDE- Bumped on jumping becoming awkwardly placed on heels soon after.

SCRIPT WRITER- Raced wide for the majority. Performed below market expectations. App D McGillivray advised that, in his opinion, being posted wide throughout was a telling factor in the finish. Trainer C Anderson concurred with App McGillivray’s assessment. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

ARTHUR IN CHARGE- Raced keenly down the back straight.

SCHMOOZER- Fractious in the barrier. Began awkwardly and bumped. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey N Tomizawa advised that, in hindsight, it would have been advantageous to maintain his position behind TO LOVE SOMEBODY passing the 400m which would have allowed him clear running into the home straight. Trainer S Tregea added that, in his opinion, being tardy away, having to shift wider and being held up on entering the home straight, as well as the 60kg impost were all telling factors in the finish. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

TO LOVE SOMEBODY- Laid out passing the 700m. Held up for clear running from the 400-300m before shifting in around heels on straightening.

EPICURIOUS- Slow into stride. Momentarily eased off heels approaching the 600m.

CALM SEEKER- Laid out under pressure down the running. Laid in passing the winning post.

DARING BELLE- Bumped on jumping. App S Champkin pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish of the race and was subsequently fined the sum of $500. In determining penalty Stewards could not be definitively satisfied that App Champkin’s actions had cost her mount fourth place as well as being mindful of her record in relation to the rule.

GALEKA- Fractious in the barrier. Bumped on jumping.

Race 2: 1EQUINE – FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1890m

SPRINGTHORPE- Trainer O Cairns advised that the gelding did not appreciate the polysynthetic racing surface at its most recent start and had expected a forward showing on returning to the turf.

KNEZE- Raced keenly passing the 900m and shifted in marginally. Laid in under pressure down the running despite the efforts of its rider.

HE’S VIRAL- Taken in becoming awkwardly placed on heels for a short distance passing the winning post on the first occasion. Raced wide for the majority. App S Campkin advised that her mount had been inclined to race keenly throughout.

DELANEY’S GIRL- Restrained in the early stages to obtain cover. App A Donald advised that, in her opinion, the mare was not suited by slow pace in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. App A Donald was reminded of her obligations in regard to her whip arm staying below shoulder height.

BUMP’N’RUN- Laid in during the early stages taking HE’S VIRAL in slightly causing that runner to become awkward on heels. Jockey A Thompson was advised to exercise greater care and effort to straighten him mounts in similar circumstances. Over-raced near the 1500m and 1300m.Jockey A Thompson advised his mount had been inclined to race keenly during the event and when asked for an effort was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

SANDGATE ROAD- Jockey K Yoshida advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer M Nolan stated that connections intended to give the gelding a further start in a lower class prior to considering a spell.

HICHAUX- Momentarily crowded near the 900m. Momentarily crowded near the 100m and again approaching the winning post when attempting to improve into a marginal run.

CAPITAN DE SEDA- Became very awkward in its action near the 1100m and was retired from the race. Immediate and subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer P Wallace was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to trialing satisfactorily before again being permitted to start in a race.

TOP BOY- Bumped on jumping before becoming awkwardly placed on heels. Improved onto heels having to be eased near the 1400m. Shifted wider to improved passing the 600m and bumped.

SHE’S SO VAIN- Raced keenly on heels near the 750m. Brushed the inside running rail near the 500m when crowded.

Race 5: FOCUS HR MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to consider an objection lodged by Jockey N Tomizawa, rider of 2nd placegetter EXCLUSIVE DROP, against 1st placegetter DUCHESS OF MILAN (App A Donald), citing alleged interference near the 900m. After taking evidence from connections and riders of the two runners and viewing the patrol footage as well as considering the matter in its entirety Stewards could not be satisfied that the interference had any tangible effect on the placing and subsequently ordered correct weight on the Judges placings.

SMOKIN’ DE QUO- Shifted in and away from heels near the 900m. Raced greenly down the running. Performed below market expectations. Jockey N Thomas advised that, in his opinion, given his mount was having its first start in a race it may not have appreciated the undulating racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

DUCHESS OF MILAN- Shifted in near the 900m when not fully clear of EXCLUSIVE DROP causing that runner to be momentarily eased and shifted in across the running of THE WHITE MOUSE, which was racing keenly, and was obliged to restrain. App A Donald was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to ensure she is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

PINK HOUSES- Stewards acceded to a request and permitted App Molloy not to claim any of his allowance on the mare. This was advertised by social media address and oncourse announcement prior to the commencement of the meeting. App J Molloy pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that he did shift in near the 900m crowding OAKVALE LASS before shifting in further when insufficiently clear of that runner causing it to be restrained and lose its rightful running. App Molloy’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days to commence the 13th of August up to and including the 20th August. In determining penalty Stewards placed the degree of interference and carelessness to be in the low range and determined the racing manners of OAKVALE LASS leading into the incident to be a mitigating factor, as well as acknowledging App Molloy’s good recent record in relation to the rule. Shifted in abruptly leaving the 100m before being corrected by its rider.
