UNCLE FRANK – Leaving the 900m laid in and bumped JACKED UP which was buffeted for several strides when racing to the outside of BOLD RUMBLE. Jockey M. McGillivray stated his mount did not appreciate being bustled in the early stages and that he elected to steady his mount near the 800m to obtain cover and as a result the gelding threw its head in the air and lost ground.

Race 2: HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY BRIT CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300M

TAKE A PICTURE – Held up for clear running from the 500m until leaving the 400m. Near the 250m shifted out resulting in STEAL THE FIELD being steadied and shifting out, resulting in CLUSTERS RUN shifting out and bumping NAVY BLACK. N. Fazackerley was advised to exercise care in similar circumstances.

CLUSTER'S REIN – Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection after slipping over in the tie-up stalls and was cleared to start. Raced wide throughout.

TERMITE – As jockey K. Zechner did not arrive on course due to a delay at the Gold Coast race meeting, stewards approved C. Taylor as the replacement rider. Began awkwardly and lost ground.

NAVY BLACK – Raced wide from the 700m.

STEAL THE FIELD – Bumped approaching the home turn. Steadied near the 250m. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey N. Tomizawa stated his mount travelled comfortably throughout, however when bumped near the home turn, the mare dropped the bit and failed to respond to his riding from that point. A post race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery.

SWANIC BOOM - Trainer I. Turner was fined $200 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time. Underwent a pre race veterinary inspection behind the barriers and was cleared to race. Raced keenly for a short distance near the 1000m. Made contact with the rail near the 800m. Approaching the home turn was shifted out to obtain clear running and bumped STEAL THE FIELD.

Race 3: HAYNES – THINK PEOPLE. THINK HAYNES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1300M

The start of this race was delayed owing to AIRBORNE HOTDOG having to be re-saddled behind the barriers.

AFFINITY FLYER – Bumped heavily and taken wider on the track near the 1100m.

SWEET MERCHANT – Jumped in at the start and hampered A DIME APPROACH and ROYAL DAZZLER. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer A. Near the 800m, threw its head in the air when being steadied whilst racing to the inside of STELLA ROSA. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.

AMAZING JOURNEY – Difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn until entering the home straight. Inclined to hang in in the early stages of the home straight and had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 100m. Stewards questioned jockey N. Tomizawa regarding him shifting his mount out approaching the 100m, when there appeared to be a run between SCAPINI and to the inside of AFFINITY FLYER. N. Tomizawa stated that his mount was inclined to hang in during the race, that the mare had hung in towards the rail approaching the home turn when he was looking to shift out and obtain clear running. He added that he had to place significant pressure on the outside rein to shift off the rail in the home straight, adding that when obtaining clear running he felt that AFFINITY FLYER would shift in and therefore kept the forward momentum of his horse whilst shifting out. Stewards felt that the actions of jockey Tomizawa were not unreasonable in the circumstances, noting that the gelding had a tendency to hang in and noted the shift inwards by AFFINITY DANCER over the concluding stages.

STELLA ROSA – Near the 1100m when being steadied and directed out by the rider, shifted out abruptly and made heavy contact with AFFINITY FLYER taking that runner wider on the track. Jockey M. Wishart was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

Apprentice O. Webb stated she was unable to obtain cover which resulted in the gelding over racing, which she felt had a detrimental effect on today’s performance.

MANDALONG FLAG - Raced wide throughout.

TINDER – Stewards questioned jockey M. Savva regarding the tactics adopted, in particular the reasons for leading in the early stages which was in contrast to the mares established racing pattern. M. Saava stated that her instructions were to position where comfortable, however after beginning well, she was surprised at how TINDER quickened and was able to obtain the lead. She added that she did not want to lead and for this reason she elected to steady her mount from the 1100m to obtain a position on the rail with cover. Stewards noted the comments.

Allen (ARCHER’S GAME) was issued a charge of careless riding under AR 131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in near the 750m when insufficiently clear of TOKYO BANDIT which was checked and lost ground. After pleading not guilty, Stewards took submissions from A. Allen and further evidence from jockey K. Zechner (A CERTAIN MAYBE) which was racing to the outside of ARCHER’S GAME. Stewards in considering the entirety of the evidence before them, could not be satisfied that A. Allen was fully responsible for this incident and therefore could not sustain the charge, and took no further action.
