SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Inquiry Date: 10 November 2023

CHARLEVILLE- 28 October 2023

Race 4- TONY FACEY MEMORIAL QTIS RATINGS BAND 0-60 HANDICAP 1200m

Stewards today concluded an inquiry into an incident which occurred passing the 800m and resulted in IKIGAI STAR (B Newport) and ADDOCARR (App P Carter) both falling and dislodging their riders. After taking evidence from the riders involved and reviewing the official patrol footage Jockey D Graham (MISERY MISS) was issued with a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) and subsequently found guilty, the particulars being that approaching the 800m she did exercise insufficient effort in preventing her mount from shifting in, consequently tightening the running of IKIGAI STAR and GAZZMAN (App E Pomfrett) before continuing to shift in when insufficiently clear of IKIGAI STAR causing that runner to be severely tightened before clipping heels and falling dislodging Jockey B Newport. ADDOCARR, which was trailing IKIGAI STAR, also fell and dislodged App P Carter. Jockey Grahams license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of seven (7) weeks, to commence 19 November, up to and including 7January 2023. In determining penalty Stewards noted Jockey Grahams record in relation to the rule and her status as a senior rider, as well as the severity of carelessness and interference which were both deemed to be in the high range. Jockey Graham was advised of her right to an appeal.

Race 1: CREATE ADVICE GROUP RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1650m

INSTANT KARMA- Raced wide early before shifting in and obtaining cover approaching the 1300m. Commenced to race keenly on heels soon after when the pace slackened and was shifted wider. Raced wide from that point on. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. When queried regarding her being posted wide from the 1300m App S Champkin concurred with Stewards that a more favourable option would have been to remain in a one-off position with cover App Champkin however stated further that she had not anticipated the pace slackening to the extent it did and was caught unaware and obliged to shift wider as a result. Stewards noted the explanation. Trainer P Nolan advised, depending on how the gelding pulled up in coming days, it would likely be the intention to give INSTANT KARMA a short freshen up prior to racing again.

KNEZE- Raced wide in the early stages.

BRINGME- Raced keenly down the back straight and wide throughout. Tired from the 400m and was not pressured in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor muscle soreness behind. In light of the performance and the results of the veterinary examination Trainer B Azel was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race. When queried regarding being posted wide without cover throughout, particularly when there appeared opportunity to marginally restrain approaching the 900m, when the gelding ceased to be racing keenly, and obtain cover. App A Donald concurred with Stewards that restraining at that stage would have been a more favourably option than remaining in a four-wide position and she had erred by not doing so. Stewards noted the explanation.

MY WHISTLEBLOWER- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly approaching the 1300m when the pace slackened and over-raced for the majority of the back straight.

JUST A HERO- Laid out near the 1500m. Raced keenly down the back straight.

WHO'S IN WINNY- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer D Jackson for the late declaration of rider on the mare. Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages improving onto heels passing the 1200m having to be restrained.  Shifted wider leaving the 700m to make a forward move from the rear of the field. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainers representative P Kalinowski advised instructions had been to be neutral on the mare from the barrier as other recent riders had advised, in their opinion, it resented being pressured in the early stages, adding that having pleased in its recent work the stable had expected an improved showing though were somewhat surprised by the winning performance.
