QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 3 FEBRARY 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4 RAIL – out 5m the Entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C Warren Stewards – J Childs, E Tickner, F HartfordClerk of Scales – A CucksonJudge – M Fahey & B PoelstraVeterinarian – Dr C Bowden-Betts & Dr L CosgroveSwab Attendants – J Pedosfky & D CainStarter – D Hodgson & C Higgins SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT Warwick- Monday, 15 January 2024Race 3: CARS MADE EASY BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (800m) DREAM WEAVING – Stewards concluded an inquiry following a report regarding the post-race condition of the mare when leaving the races. After taking initial evidence from Trainer J. Edwards, Apprentice C. Sutherland, and a report from the QRIC Compliance Assurance Team, Stewards adjourned the inquiry to allow veterinary reports to be tendered. Evidence from Mr Edwards stated the mare had become mildly fractious in the tie-up stalls, resulting in the near-side hindleg being caught on a partition. He further reported it was common for the mare to show effects of racing following an event, and for this reason, he was of the opinion that the mare did not require immediate veterinary treatment and the mare was in a satisfactory state to be travelled. Taking Mr Edwards’ explanation into account, Stewards took no further action other than to strongly remind Mr Edwards of his obligations under AR231, and in the event any incident occur at a race meeting which may impact upon the soundness of a horse, that he advise Stewards and have a veterinarian examine that horse to ensure its welfare in future. Toowoomba- 01/02/2024 Trackwork rider Nick Keal pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR123(1)(d) in that he did ride trackwork at Toowoomba Turf Club on the morning of 31 January 2024, in a vest which did not meet the required standard. Mr Keal was subsequently fined the sum of $200 and advised of his right to an appeal. Trainer M Currie pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to LR43 in that he did have unlicensed persons performing stable hand duties at Toowoomba Turf Club on the morning of 31 January 2024. Mr Currie was subsequently fined the sum of $200 and advised of his right to an appeal. GENERAL As App J Williams was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements rider changes were permitted as per the Stewards race day summary. App Y Lewis and App S Champkin both pleaded guilty to charges pursuant to AR218(4)(b) in that they did have in their possession in the female Jockeys room during the course of the race meeting their mobile phones. Both App Lewis and App Champkin were fined the sum of $400. Race 1: CARPET ONE TOOWOOMBA BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1100m SEDUCTIVE SPUR- Momentarily held up on entering the home straight. Performed below market expectations. Jockey J Stanley advised that, in his opinion, his mount may have resented the firmer racing surface. A post-race veterinary examination revealed minor lacerations to the mare’s nearside foreleg as well as both hind legs consistent with being galloped on in running. BEAN ROCKING- Checked and shifted in away from heels approaching the 800m. BIG SKY COUNTRY – Following the running of this event Jockey L Tilley advised he had minor discomfort in his left foot, after injuring it at Ipswich earlier in the day, and would monitor it going forward this evening. BY BY MUSIC- Began awkwardly. Bumped passing the 900m. App S McCann was found guilty of a charge pursuant to AR131(a) in that approaching the 800m she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of RECANATI (A Thompson) taking that runner in onto the running of BEAN ROCKING (A Allen) which was obliged to check, lose its rightful running and shift in. App McCanns license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 4 February up to and including 10 February 2024. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of carelessness to be in the low-range. Stewards also considered that this was App McCanns first suspension under the rule, noting several reprimands however, as well as her status as an apprentice and the fact she had been race riding for a period of less than 12 months. App McCann was advised of her right to an appeal. COBURG- Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have shifted its off-hind plate in running. FIERY RING- Began awkwardly. Shifted wider around heels passing the 800m. Trainer K Kemp advised that the stable will now give consideration to sending the gelding for a short let-up. Jockey Loy’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 8 days, to commence 12 February up to and including 19 February 2024. LIGHTFAST- Momentarily crowded approaching the 300m. MOTOMISS- As App Y Lewis was late arriving on course Stewards permitted App J Molloy to be substituted as rider of the mare. Jockey T Brooker was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering penalty Stewards noted the racing manners of LA MANO as that filly was having its first race start and had over-reacted to the efforts of its rider which had exacerbated the interference somewhat. Faltered in its action leaving the 100m, shifted out and bumped with ESJAY before being shifted out further and pulled up soon after the winning post.
