Race 3: RDO EQUIPMENT KUHN 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1625m
GOING TO THE SUN – Stewards today concluded an inquiry into Jockey Justin Stanleys riding of the gelding, specifically his apparent lack of vigor between the 600m-300m. After reviewing betting records for the event, taking evidence from Trainer Mr W King and further submissions from and questioning of Jockey Stanley, Stewards determined that Jockey Stanley had erred in his judgement to not place his mount under any notable pressure between the 500m-350m when it was both reasonable and permissible to do so. Stewards determined however, given the general circumstances of the incident with the unusually fast tempo of the event, this being the geldings first trip over a distance further than 1350m and the unenviable run GOING TO THE SUN endured in the early and middle stages, noting this was no fault of Jockey Stanleys, that Jockey Stanleys actions, whilst an error in judgement considering his experience as a rider, had not denied his mount the opportunity to finish in the best possible position and thus were not of a culpable nature, therefore no charge/s were issued. Nonetheless, Jockey Stanley was strenuously advised to, in all circumstances, ride his mounts in a manner which is beyond reproach and unquestionably avails to them the opportunity to finish in the best possible position in the field.

Leslight pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that approaching the 800m, he did allow his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of SUNCRAFT, which was tightened, obliged to check losing its rightful running and directed inwards onto TIME TO LAUNCH which was tightened and taken in onto the running of BOOK OF EXODUS which was tightened and obliged to restrain. Leslight’s license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 10 days to commence 21 February 2024, upon the completion of a previously incurred suspension for careless riding, up to and including 1 March 2024. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered the carelessness to be in the low-range, the severity of interference to be in the mid-range, App Leslight’s record, his status as an Apprentice, his guilty plea and the specific circumstances of the breach.
