Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 2 HANDICAP         1200m
 
Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the start. After viewing the patrol footage Stewards were satisfied that all runners were afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.
 
DEMON DELIVERA- Began very awkwardly and lost considerable ground taking no competitive part in the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Co-Trainers C & K Geran were advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
CRIMSON WARNING- Jockey L Tilley advised that, in his opinion, his mount struggled with the fast early pace.
 
KOBENHAVN- Bumped passing the 350m.
 
TAKARA STAR- Tired from the 200m and finished below market expectations. Jockey S Galloway advised that, in his opinion, the mare would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run.
 
TATTLE- Slow into stride.
 
FIERY RING- Held up for clear running from the 500m until a point approaching the 300m after shifting out around heels.
 
MONDAY MONDAY- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 200m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey J Stanley advised that after travelling reasonably well after being posted wide was bumped rounding the home turn and became momentarily unbalanced and raced flat in the home straight.
 
BRINGME- Slow into stride and was under pressure early to maintain its position in the field. Lost a near-side hind plate in running.
 
ELECTRIC- Bumped passing the 350m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
SOOZIE MAREE- Bumped on jumping. Held up rounding the home turn having to be momentarily steadied near the 350m before shifting out and bumping. Laid in under pressure down the running becoming awkwardly placed on heels near the 200m having to be momentarily eased and shifted out.
 
 
Race 2: JOE WAGNER GROUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP  1000m
 
PRINCE NICCONI- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Bumped on jumping and was crowded soon after.
 
XERRI- Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
DEVIL'S RITE- Shifted out and away from a fallen rider near the 700m. Raced wide for the majority. Lost an off-fore plate in running.
 
CHISUM- After becoming fractious in the race-day tie-ups and sustaining a laceration to its near-hind leg was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 5:35pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 5:35pm:
 
10cents in the dollar for the win
10cents in the dollar for the place
 
Trainer R Watts was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
MASTER GEE- Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Shifted in passing the 900m when not fully clear of VIENNESE LOVER causing that runner to be restrained. Jockey L Tilley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards deemed the racing manners of VIENNESE LOVER leading into the incident to be a mitigating factor. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have lacerations to the near-side hind consistent with being galloped on.
 
BEEFEATERS- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Trainer C Weston was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result. Hampered when avoiding a fallen rider near the 700m.
 
GOTEBO- Blundered and dislodged its rider near the 700m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed some minor muscle soreness.  App McCann was tendered to by QAS officers and transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital for observation and further assessment. App McCann was advised that she would now be stood down for a period of 12-days under the QRIC concussion protocol unless a certificate freeing her of concussion and concussion symptoms was provided prior to 29 February 2024. Additionally, App McCann was advised that, she would require a medical clearance and cognitive assessment prior to again being permitted to return to riding. Rider replacements were made as per Stewards race day summary. Stewards will inquiring into the incident at a date and time to be determined.
 
ROWDASH- Hampered when avoiding a fallen rider near the 700m.
 
FROZEN MISS- Began awkwardly and bumped before being bumped again soon after. Hampered when avoiding a fallen rider near the 700m. Checked off the riderless horse near the 500m.
 
HUSSONHOFF- Crowded soon after the start and bumped. Hampered when avoiding a fallen rider near the 700m. Checked off heels due to the riderless horse near the 500m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
VIENNESE LOVER- Bumped on jumping and became unbalanced. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Restrained off heels near the 900m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 3: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1625m
 
DROP THE PILOT- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly approaching the 1400m and continued to race keenly for the majority of the back straight. Raced wide for the majority.
 
CHARGED- Slow into stride raced wide for the majority.
 
MARTINI DANCER- Raced keenly near the 1400m when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover.
 
BIE'RES- Raced keenly on heels near the 1300m.
 
SPIRIT OF GIVING- Momentarily held up rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure proving somewhat difficult to ride out. Jockey D Smith was fined the sum of $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip on 7 occasions, 2 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.
 
ZOU ZOUAMORE- Began awkwardly and was slow into stride, consequently settled further back in the field than may have been expected. Raced keenly near the 1300m.
 
ROCK WAR- After beginning only fairly and with notable speed to the inside elected to settle in a position with cover further back in the field than may have been expected.
 
MANTINELLO- Raced keenly near the 1300m. Disappointed for a run passing the 100m and was unable to obtain clear running from that point going to the line without being fully tested.
 
 
Race 4: MORT & CO QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP  1200m
 
MYSTERY POWER- Slow to begin.
 
OLD SALT- Slow to begin and bumped.
 
TWOPOINTFOUR- Slow to begin and bumped.
 
CHINCHILLA AHEAD- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
COUNTLESS KISSES- Bumped and taken in on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in and bumped passing the 350m. Bumped passing the 250m. Shifted in and bumped approaching the 100m.
 
SUPER QUICK- Bumped on jumping. Shifted in passing the 900m when insufficiently clear of MISS BITTERSWEET causing that runner to be steadied and taken in onto the running of LADY HURIBEL which was obliged to restrain. Jockey P Hamblin was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground to ensure he is sufficiently clear to do so. In determining penalty Stewards noted Jockey Hamblins excellent record in relation to the rule.
 
THE AUTHOR- Bumped on jumping.
 
CONTRICK- Bumped passing the 350m. Shifted out in an effort to improve near the 250m and bumped. Bumped approaching the 100m.
 
LA MANO- Bumped on jumping.
 
MISS BIITTERSWEET- Steadied from heels and taken in passing the 900m.
 
LADY HURIBEL- Reluctant to proceed to the mounting yard and was fractious in the parade area. Trainer O Cairns was advised a warning would be placed on the filly as result. Tightened for room and restrained passing the 900m.
 
GOLD DAZZLER- Bumped on jumping. Hung-out from the 800m and raced excessively wide from the point proving intractable. Co-Trainers T & M Sears were advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
 
Race 5: MOCO FOOD SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP         1300m
 
AZUKI- Held up for a short distance near the 400m.
 
JIMMY GIGGLE- Tired noticeably in the home straight. Jockey L Tilley advised that, in his opinion, the gelding would derive a significant fitness benefit from the run. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow post-race recovery.
 
BASIL'S GIFT- Raced keenly whilst being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover in the early stages and raced keenly for the majority of the back straight, over-racing near the 900m. Shifted out in an effort to improve near the 350m and bumped.
 
BOMBAY BRAWLER- As App S Champkin was late to arrive on course Stewards permitted App A Donald to be substituted as rider of the gelding. App Champkin was subsequently fined the sum of $100 pursuant to AR127(1). Laid in under pressure down the running. App A Donald was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR132(b).
 
RED HOT LOVE- Held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
TIME FOR JACK- Momentarily crowded on jumping. Bumped passing the 350m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 6: KENNARDS HIRE MAIDEN PLATE  1625m
 
 
EXPEDIENT CHOICE- Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden in a forward position with cover should circumstances permit. Begun well and from the wide barrier was permitted to stride forward settled outside the leader.
 
NEW JET- Began awkwardly before being ridden positively in the early stages, commenced to race keenly soon after, and took up a leading position.
 
PICADOR- Held up for a short distance from the 500m before again being held up for clear running from the 400m until a point leaving the 300m when shifted in.
 
ENTERPRISE FUSE- Stewards accepted Trainer S Sixtus’s reasons for the late declaration of rider.
 
LA BELLA DIVA- Raced keenly near the 1400m. Shifted in approaching the 1000m momentarily hampering MADAM ROCK. App S CHampkin was advised to exercise greater care and ensure she does not steady when shifting ground to secure a position in similar circumstances. Raced keenly down the back straight. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
MADAM ROCK- Raced keenly passing the 1300m. Momentarily hampered passing the 1000m before shifting wider soon after and racing wide form that point.
 
WHEN DOVES FLY- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
DON'T TELL PEGGY (NZ)- Laid in under pressure down the running and became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels near the 50m.
 
FORGETS ME NOT- Bumped on jumping. Improved onto heels near the 350m and obliged to restrain. Lost an off-fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 7:ENTERPRISE LEGAL BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP  1625m
 
TINTINWIN (NZ)- Steadied off heels near the 1500m.
 
SUBSTITUTION- Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages. Shifted in when not fully clear of OZARCH approaching the 1500m. App Champkin was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
MOTOMISS- Stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer L Hatch was advised the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BEAN DANCING- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Checked off heels and shifted wider leaving the 1500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-hind. Trainer P Wallace was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
OZARCH- Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 1500m.
 
WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA- App A Donald pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that leaving the 1500m she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BEAN DANCING which was obliged to check and lose its rightful running. App Donalds license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 9 days to commence 18 February up to and including 26 February 2024. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of carelessness to be in the mid-range, App Donalds status as an apprentice, guilty plea, record in relation to the rule as well as the racing manners of BEAN DANCING leading into the incident which were deemed to have exacerbated the severity of the interference to a minor extent. App Donald was advised of her right to an appeal.
