Race 1: CARPET ONE TOOWOOMBA CLASS 3 HANDICAP         1100m
 
WHERE'S TEKAY NOW- Began awkwardly.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND- Slow into stride. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels near the 800m. Held up leaving the 400m until a point passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
CHERRY SODA- Trainer G Cornish was reprimanded under the provisions of LR30 for failing to have the mare presented on course by the prescribed time. In determining penalty Stewards noted the reasons Mr Cornish was late in arriving on course and the extent of his lateness, nonetheless Mr Cornish was advised to make greater efforts to contact Stewards in similar circumstances. A pre-race blood sample was taken from the mare for analysis. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to have lose a off-fore plate in running and to have sustained a minor laceration to the off-hind fetlock. Jockey A Thompson advised that, in his opinion, his mount may not have handled the inconsistent racing surface.
 
NEW YORK GAL- Held u[p for clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
FLYING TYROL- Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey D Smith advised that after travelling well throughout the event when asked for a finishing effort his mount was found wanting and proved disappointing.
 
Following the running of this event the racing surface was down graded to a Soft 5
 
 
Race 2: THE GERRY BROWN'S MEMORIAL BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1300m
 
HILL BILLY FLYER- Bumped passing the 1200m. Momentarily crowded near the 1100m.
 
INVICTUS LAD- As jockey P Hamblin was delayed due to transport difficulties and delays at another race meeting jockey D Smith was permitted to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Raced keenly soon after the start when being restrained from the wide barrier in an effort to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.
 
JUBAI PRIDE- Laid in and became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels soon after straightening and continued to lay in under pressure down the running. App Wilcock dropped her whip passing the 100m.
 
PRIVATE BANKER- When queried regarding the seemingly improved performance Stable Representative Ms B Mackie advised that the gelding had been given a short let-up since last start and since returning had pleased in its work and recent jump-outs with the stable expecting an improved showing as a result.
 
CRYMENOTEARS- Restrained from the wide barrier in an effort to obtain cover and a position nearer the inside running rail. Raced wide from the 900m.
 
BITOFTHEBLARNEY (NZ)- Whilst racing keenly and being restrained in an effort to obtain cover, shifted in and bumped near the 1200m. Continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter.

ONE REASON- Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed some minor muscle soreness.
 
 
Race 3: GERRY BROWN'S TYRE ACCESSORIES RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1200m
 
BY BY MUSIC- Shifted in near the 800m when not fully clear of YOURALLTHAT. Whilst no notable interference App S Callow was nonetheless advised to exercise greater care and ensure she is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
FIERY RING- Bumped soon after the start.
 
IRISH MAUDIE- Bumped soon after the start. Bumped on several occasions between the 550m and 400m. Bumped passing the 100m. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Jockey G Cartwright advised that, in her opinion, the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. Trainer J Healy concurred with Jockey Cartwrights assessment adding that, in his opinion, the mare does not appreciate a rain affected racing surface.
 
PUREZZA- Held up on the heels of a tiring runner passing the 600m before shifting out and attempting to improve into a marginal run and bumping with another runner on several occasions as a result. App Webb was reminded of her obligations and advised to ensure she does not attempt to force runs in similar circumstances. Inconvenienced and obliged to steady leaving the 300m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
THE CRUSHA- Bumped on jumping.
 
JUBILANT- Momentarily restrained and shifted out around heels near the 500m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
ELECTRIC- Tired from the 600m. Underwent a port-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
CLEARLY GEORGE- Blundered soon after the start.
 
YOURALLTHAT- Shifted in leaving the 300m when not fully clear of PUREZZA causing that runner to be steadied. Jockey M Wishart was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
DISTANT SECRET- Bumped on jumping and was slow into stride. Bumped passing the 100m.
 
 
Race 4: SPACERACK SHELVING & RACKING MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
 
BARGARA BOUND- Bumped on jumping. Shifted out abruptly passing the 250m before being corrected by its rider.
 
BATTALION (NZ)- Shifted in and bumped before being tightened soon after jumping. Shifted out and away from heels rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority. Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
 
APPROVAL- Shifted out and bumped before then shifting in on jumping. Restrained off heels near the 1100m. momentarily crowded near the 500m. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
DEPTH CHARGE- After beginning only fairly from the wide gate was ridden positively in the early stages to take up a forward position nearer the inside running rail. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
EDGEWISE- Momentarily eased off heels soon after the start.
 
SUNCRAFT- Raced wide for the majority.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Shifted in when not fully clear of APPROVAL near the 1100m causing that runner to be restrained. App S Champkin was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident and advised to ensure she is fully clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
JORUM- Shifted out and bumped before being tightened soon after the start.
 
TALAKAI- Bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey D Smith advised that, in his opinion, the filly may not have handled the rain affected racing surface.
 
 
Race 5: FISCHER PLASTIC PRODUCTS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1200m
 
MILL ROSSA- Settled further back in the field than may have been expected from the wide barrier. Shifted in and bumped passing the 1100m. Raced keenly passing the 600m. Shifted out and bumped passing the 300m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
MOSCINI- Held up from the 550m until the early stages of the home straight. Momentarily crowded leaving the 100m.
 
DOCTOR TEEKAY- Raced keenly down the back straight. Bumped leaving the 300m. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance Trainer M Currie advised that the stable had expected a forward showing given the rain affected racing surface adding that, in his opinion, the gelding was underrepresented in the market.
 
OUR FREE SPIRIT- Shifted out marginally whilst being ridden forward approaching the 1100m when insufficiently clear of MAGIC IN ME which clipped a heel and blundered.
App D McGilivray was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In determining penalty Stewards noted the severity of interference was mitigated by the slight degree of carelessness with the marginal shift from App McGilivray.
 
MAGIC IN ME- Bumped soon after the start. Clipped heels and blundered near the 1150m. raced keenly down the back straight. Held up for clear running approaching the 300m and in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SPINNING SPIRIT- Bumped soon after the start. Bumped on the hind-quarters passing the 1100m. Performed below market expectations. Trainer J Hanna advised connections would now consider the mares immediate racing future with consideration being given to retirement.
 
As a result of continued light showers the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 6 following Race 5
 
 
Race 6: GERRY BROWN'S OFFICE FURNITURE ONLINE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1890m
 
UNTAMED SPIRIT (NZ)- Taken wider passing the 1600m. Bumped passing the 1400m. Raced wide for the majority. Commenced to tire from the 500m and finished tailed off. Trainer A Park was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings competitiveness.
 
SUDDEN SUSPECT- Slow into stride.
 
SILVER ONYX- Raced keenly passing the 1400m. Finished tailed off. On returning to the mounting yard was found to be suffering bilateral epistaxis. As this was the first such occasion Trainer g Allard was made aware of the relevant provisions of AR79.
 
FRIJOLES- Over-raced when crossed near the 1700m. Laid out rounding the 1600m turn. Shifted out and bumped when racing keenly near the 1400m.
 
ZOU ZOUAMORE- Slow into stride. Over-raced near the 1600m.
 
POWER GLIDER- Raced keenly on heels near the 1500m. Held up for clear running from the 600m until a point approaching the 400m when shifted wider.
 
SALT AND PEPPER- Over-raced from the 1600m taking a notable lead before tiring noticeably in the home straight. App S Callow advised it was not her intention to lead by any such distance and that she had been unable to restrain her mount once it took up the bit in the early stages. Trainer M Nolan advised that the stable would look to restrict the geldings racing to events over shorter distances at similar stages in preparations going forward.

 
Race 7: MAK'S 18TH BIRTHDAY MAIDEN HANDICAP         1890m
 
MORE SUCCESS- Momentarily eased when improved onto heels near the 1700m. Laid out passing the 1600m. Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner near the 600m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
EXPEDIENT CHOICE- Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden with cover should circumstances permit. Began well. Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover and was obliged to check off heels leaving the 1700m. Raced keenly for the majority and consequently racing in a wide position without cover for the majority. Shifted in marginally leaving the 900m, before being corrected by its rider, momentarily crowding HOPETOUN SUNRISE.
 
EVERCLEAR- Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden further forward should circumstances permit. Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ROYAL GEORGE- Slow to begin. Shifted wider passing the 1300m when the pace of the race was only moderate and was permitted to stride forward to take up a leading position on the inside rail near the 900m when the pace slackened further.
 
BRAVE HOSHI- App S Champkin pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding in that leaving the 1700m she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of EXPEDIENT CHOICE causing that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running. App Champkins license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11days to commence 4 March up to and including 15 March 2024. In determining penalty Stewards considered the degree of carelessness which was deemed to be in the mid-range, App Champkins record in relation to the rule, her guilty plea and forthright evidence, her status as an apprentice as well as the severity of interference. App Champkin was advised of her right to an appeal. Crowded near the 900m. Tired from the 600m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a lacerations to the off-hind hock and cannon which required veterinary treatment and were consistent with being galloped on in running. Trainer V Heading was advised the filly would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
IN THE PICTURE- Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden further forward should circumstances permit. Slow to begin. Laid out passing the 1600m. Over-raced passing the 1500m.
 
TAVIESLASS (NZ)- began awkwardly. Became awkwardly placed on heels leaving the 300m.
 
HOPETOUN SUNRISE- Momentarily crowded near the 900m.
 
VAIN LUKE- Slow to begin. Shifted in marginally passing the 1700m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
 
Race 8: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP 870m
 
POLYLITHIC (NZ)- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority.
 
AL PAL'S GAL- Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHOCK AND AWE- Harmlessly dislodged Jockey A Thompson on route to the barriers before galloping for some distance and subsequently being declared a late scratching at 9:26pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 9:26pm:
 
4cents in the dollar for the win
5cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
4cents in the dollar for 2nd place
7cents in the dollar for 3rd place
 
Trainer G Banks was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners as a result.
 
HOT OR NOT- Laid in passing the 700m. Momentarily eased passing the 150m.
 
FLANK SPEED- Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid out under pressure down the running having to be corrected by its rider passing the 150m.
 
BOSTON CITY- Slow to begin.
 
COBURG- Slow to begin. Performed below market expectations. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal aby significant abnormalities. Jockey N Tomizawa advised that, in his opinion, the gelding wasn’t suited to the rain affected track or prevailing racing conditions.
