MILAGRO – Raced wide from the 600m when attempting to improve. Laid-in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance, Trainer R. Stewards noted the explanation. Race 3: VIEW HOTEL BRISBANE QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE (1200m) DESERT GRIT – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 400m bumped when SOBUTE attempted to obtain clear running. SOBUTE – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 800m. GRANDCOEUR – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance of the gelding, Apprentice E. Lang stated the wide run the gelding endured throughout the event proved telling in its finishing efforts. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Approaching the 400m when attempting to gain clear running, bumped with GLIDE ON BY. Held-up for clear running for a short distance thereafter. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MADALSA – Began awkwardly and bumped. CRAZY ABOUT YOU – Bumped on jumping. Became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 200m for several strides. Shifted wider to obtain clear running thereafter, before being eased down over the concluding stages. When questioned, Apprentice S. Callow, stated in her opinion, the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action and therefore she elected to not place her mount under any pressure throughout the home straight. She added in hindsight, once the gelding had been shifted wider approaching the 150m, it commenced to improve marginally, and she agreed that she should have re-commenced to place her mount under some pressure. Stewards intend to review the betting on the event. Apprentice S. Callow was further advised that the ride would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Team for review. GLIDE ON BY – Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted wider from the 400m to improve. Approaching the 400m bumped when GRANDCOEUR attempted to improve. Laid-in rounding the home turn. Race 5: AG RIGGING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (870m) Declaration of correct weight was delayed when the rider of second placegetter N. Tomizawa (SMILING ZAC) lodged an objection againstfirst placegetter (BUCKALTIUS) being declared the winner citing alleged interference near the 50m. After taking evidence from the riders and connections involved and reviewing the patrol footage, Stewards determined that near the 50m BUCKALTIUS shifted out under pressure and made marginal contact with SMILING ZAC. In considering the matter, Stewards noted that whilst BUCKALTIUS had shifted out and contacted SMLING ZAC, leading into the incident SMILING ZAC had been shifting in marginally under pressure, and with consideration to the beaten margin and degree of interference, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that had the interference not occurred that SMILING ZAC would have finished in advance of BUCKALITUS and subsequently dismissed the protest. PRINCE NICCONI – Went amiss near the 600m and was retired from the race. An immediate post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained fractures to both sesamoids in the near-foreleg and was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Post-mortem samples were taken for analysis. INVINCIBILUS – Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:55pm after sustaining an injury in its stable. Trainer S. Sixtus was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to racing again. BUCKALTIUS – Began awkwardly. Shifted ground under pressure in the home straight before shifting out abruptly near the 50m and contacted SMILING ZAC. SMILING ZAC (NZ) – Checked from the heels of PRINCE NICCONI and shifted wider passing the 500m when that runner went amiss. Bumped with BUCKALTIUS near the 50m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Race 6: MNP SECURITY COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000m) SERAPUS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start.
