QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 11TH MAY 2024 WEATHER – Showers/Overcast TRACK RATING – Race 1: Good 4; Race 2 & 3: Soft 5; Race 4,5, & 6: Soft 6; Race 7 & 8 Soft 7 RAIL – Out 4metres the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, F Hartford, W Glass, D MacDonald GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting: Race 1: Jockey M Savva +1/2kg Jockey N Tomizawa +1/2kg Race 1: KENNARDS HIRE CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1200m CHISUM- Bumped on jumping. Shifted in marginally passing the 700m momentarily crowding another runner before being quickly corrected by its rider. Bumped on entering the home straight. Raced wide for the majority. PUREZZA- Bumped on entering the home straight. Performed below market expectations. App O Webb advised that, in her opinion, the mare may not have handled the short back up from its previous start at Toowoomba on 4 May 2024. Trainer P Wallace advised that the stable were disappointed with the performance and that the mare would now likely be sent for an immediate spell. I'M A TINY DANCER- Buffeted on jumping. JOY MCCOY (NZ)- Raced keenly approaching the 900m. Bumped leaving the 700m. READY TO BOOM- Shifted in passing the 900m when not fully clear of DUCHESS OF MILAN. App E Lang was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances and ensure she is fully clear when shifting ground. ABOVE THE WORLD- Commenced to give ground noticeably from the 400m and was eased down. On returning to the mounting yard App A Donald advised her mount had chocked down in running. Trainer G Wright advised that the stable would now likely add a tongue control bit to the fillies gear. AMAZING JOURNEY- When App N Olzard was unable to fulfil her engagement due to transport difficulties and there being no other Apprentice available Stewards permitted Jockey M Savva to be substituted as rider of the mare. Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly passing the 900m. Momentarily steadied off heels leaving the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. DUCHESS OF MILAN- Bumped on jumping. Crowded for a short distance approaching the 900m. RAPID DUDE- Bumped on jumping. Momentarily crowded passing the 700m and bumped. BANKROLL BABE- Improved onto heels leaving the 400m having to be steadied and shifted wider. SUPER RUPERT- Kicked out and became cast on the back barrier gate for an extended period. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5:03pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight Stewards ordered all monies invested on the gelding be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 5:04pm: 0cents in the dollar for the win1cents in the dollar for the place on the winner2cents in the dollar for 2nd place0cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer V Heading was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 5. Race 2: PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m CUTTING EDGE- Bumped on jumping. APUNTAR- Began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped. READY GO BILLY- Buffeted on jumping. ACCELERATE RAPIDLY- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Performed below market expectations. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey L Tilley advised that, in his opinion, the filly didn’t handle the prevailing racing conditions with the notable kickback especially. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. YESSLUV- Trainer C Geran was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the filly. Bumped on jumping. Under pressure from the 700m and commenced to lose ground noticeably soon after. Finished tailed off. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey n Fazackerley advised that, in his opinion, the filly may not have appreciated the prevailing racing conditions, however was nonetheless disappointing. Trainer C Geran advised that connections would now consider the fillies immediate racing future, nonetheless Mr Geran was advised a warning would be placed on the fillies competitiveness as a result. BARBRA- Laid in under pressure down the running. Race 3: TTC MEMBER KAREN SCHEFE CLASS 3 PLATE 1000m ORACOLO- Dwelt in the barrier and began awkwardly. ARDERN- Under pressure from the 800m and commenced to give ground noticeably soon after being eased down from the 400m. On returning to scale App E Lang advised that her mount had commenced to give ground quickly and shortly before the 400m commenced to make an unusual respiratory noise and as such she elected to ease her mount down from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed notable upper-respiratory sounds. Trainers representative Mr P Frame stated the stable were very disappointed with the performance and further advised of an intention to have the mare scoped in the coming days and undertook to have the stable advise Stewards of those results. Trainer R Heathcote advised on 13th May that the mare had pulled up with a notable black eye after receiving kickback in running which may have contributed to the performance. Mr Heathcote added the mare would now likely be sent for an immediate spell. PIANIST- Slow to begin. Momentarily crowded near the 900m. Laid in passing the 300m. NAUGHTY WORDS- Shifted wider around heels in the early stages of the home straight. Laid in under pressure down the running. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 6. Race 4: LIVING TURF BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1625m OVERSEAS (NZ)- As Jockey P Hamblin was unable to fulfil his engagement due to transport difficulties Stewards permitted Jockey L Tarrant to be substituted as rider of the gelding. GOOD VINTAGE- Bumped on jumping. Raced wide from the 700m. GLEN MASSEY- Trainer P Duncan was advised that as the gelding was scratched on veterinary advice a veterinary certificate of fitness would be required prior to again being permitted to start in a race. JAC THE GREAT- Crowded and bumped on jumping. Performed below market expectations. When asked to comment App D McGillivray advised that intentions were to settle further forward however after being hampered at the start and settling further back in the field his mount resented the kickback in running and had been inclined to lay out at times during the event. POWER PACK- Bumped on jumping. Attempted to shift out around heels to improve approaching the 600m before being disappointed for a run and was held up on heels until shifting wider to improve approaching the 400m. JUBILANT- Improved onto heels having to be steadied and shifted wider leaving the 600m. ZOU ZOUAMORE- Slow into stride. DECARBONISE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination including the taking of pre-race blood samples after arriving on course late after transport difficulties. After being caught wide early was permitted to stride forward and settled in a forward position nearer the inside running rail near the 1300m. Laid in passing the 900m. Under pressure from the 600m before commencing to lose ground noticeably approaching the 400m and was eased down. App J Williams advised that after his mount wasn’t responding to his urgings he felt it become awkward in its action and he elected to ease it down from that point. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainers representative C Gilmore advised that, in his opinion, the gelding didn’t appreciate the prevailing racing conditions noting the geldings two most recent poor performances on a Heavy 8 and a polysynthetic surface. Race 5: RDO EQUIPMENT MAIDEN PLATE 1200m GO THE GUINNESS- Bumped on jumping and again soon after. Under pressure from the 600m. ADISHAM- Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted out around heels approaching the 400m and again passing the 350m. Laid in under pressure down the running. BUTTERFLY WINGS- Bumped on jumping. HONEY QUEEN- Laid out passing the 900m. MAKE HASTE- After being slow to begin from the wide barrier was restrained in the early stages and shifted behind runners to obtain cover and a position nearer the inside running rail. Momentarily steadied off heels and shifted in approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. SHALZER- Laid in under pressure down the running. TOUCHOFCLASS (NZ)- Commenced to give ground from the 500m and was not placed under any pressure in the home straight. Jockey K Zechner advised that his mount had travelled well until the 800m and from that point on struggled to maintain its position and when the gelding commenced to give ground rapidly he elected not to pressure his mount any further. A post-race veterinary examination revealed upper-respiratory sounds. TRAPEDO- Laid in rounding the home turn. HELLUVA SOIREE- Laid in under pressure down the running. Race 6: SELECTED SEEDS QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1100m ALMOST EVEN- Tired from the 400m. DRANG A TANG- Fractious in the barrier. Trainer M Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings barrier manners as a result. Raced wide in the early stages before being restrained near the 800m in an effort to obtain cover and a position nearer the inside running rail. Was obliged to shift wider from the 600m to improve. IT IS WHAT IT IS- Laid in under pressure down the running. MR HANKY PANKY- Raced wide for the majority. CAILIN ALAINN- Began awkwardly before being momentarily hampered. When asked to comment on the improved performance Trainer L Peoples advised that the filly had matured notably during her spell and after trialling and working well leading into the event the stable had expected a forward showing. COOL STORY- Bumped on jumping before being momentarily crowded soon after the start. Laid out passing the 600m. Bumped passing the 700m. SILVERADO MISS- Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped passing the 700m when momentarily crowded. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 7 Race 7: TAYLOR BUILDING GROUP BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP 1050m BUGALUGS- Slow into stride and became awkwardly placed on heels soon after. Became awkwardly placed on heels before being momentarily steadied and bumped neat the 200m. MAGNETIC- Commenced to tire from the 500m and was eased down in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority. Jockey C Waddell advised that, in her opinion, the gelding would derive a fitness benefit from the run noting that being first up from a long spell with the prevailing racing conditions its not surprising her mount tired in the finish. Trainer J Bruce advised that the stable were disappointed with the performance and intended to have the veterinary surgeon examine the gelding in the coming days and undertook to advise should anything become apparent. REDZOUST- Stood flat footed and lost ground. Trainer R Lipp was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding as a result. Momentarily held up leaving the 400m. Shifted out around heels to improve leaving the 250m and not fully clear of BUGALUGS which was inconvenienced. Jockey N Fazackerley was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. MAGIC IN ME- Laid out under pressure down the running. INCOMPARABLE- Bumped approaching the 200m, shifted in and bumped a further runner. Raced wide for the majority. ENABLER- Became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels near the 900m. Shifted notably wider from the 500m in an effort to improve. Laid in under pressure down the running, bumping approaching the 200m. Performed below market expectations. Jockey A Allen advised that, in his opinion, being posted wide throughout and have to shift wider in an effort to improve earlier than he had intended were telling factors in the performance. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. HUSSON'S REVENGE- Raced wide for the majority. Race 8: BARRIER REEF POOLS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1890m BILPA MOREA (NZ)- Steadied and shifted out away from heels near the 700m. MIRACLE SEVEN- Blundered on jumping. Improved onto heels near the 1650m, shifted wider and inconvenienced CASIE’S GIRL. App C Waddell was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Raced keenly near the 1500m. Momentarily hampered near the 1400m. Shifted out near the 700m and inconvenienced BILPA MOREA. App C Waddell was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. CONTRICK- Commenced to tire from the 400m. Was not pressured in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be lame in the near-fore. Trainer R Lipp was advised that the filly would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race. WHYTEEPEE- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure down the running and bumped approaching the 100m. Accidentally struck across the nose near the 900m by another riders whip. When queried regarding the seemingly improved performance Trainer T Pascoes advised that tonights event provided ideal racing conditions for the gelding, specifically in terms of distance and the prevailing racing and track conditions and as such the stable had expected a forward showing. LINDA'S MAGIC- Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly approaching the 1500m before commencing to over-race and improving onto heels having to be shifted wider approaching the 1400m, momentarily hampering another runner. NAVILLUS BUDDY- Commenced to tire from the 1000m and tailed off. Jockey G Goomany was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) for use of his whip above shoulder being near the 900m as well as being reminded to use the whip in such a manner to ensure he does not inadvertently strike any other horse or rider. STPETERSCATHEDRAL- Slow to begin. Over-raced near the 1300m. CASSIE'S GIRL- Slow to begin. Laid in near the 250m and inconvenienced LINDA’S MAGIC. Jockey N Fazackerley was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of thins incident. Laid in under pressure down the running. PARIAH ON FIRE- Bumped on jumping. Laid out under pressure down the running and bumped approaching the 100m. A DEVIL'S CHANCE- Raced keenly in the early stages.
