QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB TOOWOOMBA – SATURDAY, 25 MAY 2024 WEATHER – OVERCAST/SHOWERS TRACK RATING – GOOD 4; Soft 5 after Race 3 RAIL – Out 3metres the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C. WarrenStewards – J. Childs, T. Preston, E. Tickner, D. MacDonald & W. Glass GENERAL When Apprentice T. Fenlon was indisposed due to illness, Jockey A. Thompson and Jockey C. Eaton were indisposed due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards Race-day Summary. Apprentice T. Fenlon was advised she requires a medical clearance prior to race-riding again. Race 1: BNW AUTOMOTIVE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1300m) LATENIGHTTOUGHGUY – Slow into stride before being shifted behind runners to obtain a position with cover. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. JUBAI PRIDE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ANYWAY YOU WANT IT – Momentarily crowded when improving into a marginal near the 500m. App J Molloy was reminded to ensure there is sufficient running room before improving into positions in similar circumstances. Laid out under pressure in the home straight. WEST CORK – Over-raced in the early and middle stages. ALFA LILY – Raced wide and without cover until settling outside the leader leaving the 800m. EPICURIOUS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and passed fit to start. Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer S. Sixtus was advised the mare would be required to barrier trial prior to racing again. Lost both front plates in running. MISTER HEMSWORTH (IRE) – Raced keenly for some distance near the 1000m. Jockey L. Tilley advised that, in his opinion, the gelding which was first-up for the preparation would derive significant fitness benefit from the run. MILAGRO – Raced wide from the 800m when shifted wider in an effort to improve. Race 2: PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP (870m) SMALL DOSES – Slow to begin. BUTTINSKY – Began awkwardly. CROATIAN QUEEN – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. ICE BLIZZARD – Crowded soon after the start. Race 3: HIGHFIELDS BUILDER BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1100m) EXPECTANT – Slow into stride.VELVET HAZE – Raced wide and without cover leaving the 800m. Jockey S. Cormack advised that, in his opinion, the mare did not appreciate the undulating surface, adding further that the mare would be better suited over further distances and would derive a fitness benefit from the run. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. HOT OR NOT – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. I PROMISE YOU – Obliged to restrain when tightened between runners on jumping. Raced wide and without cover leaving the 800m. MAYA BAY – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. INCOMPARABLE – Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels approaching the 100m and was obliged to shift in to obtain clear running. App Molloy was advised to ensure he is completely clear of other runners before making abrupt shifts in such a manner. MR ENCORE – Began awkwardly. Commenced to race keenly approaching the 1000m when attempting to be restrained to obtain a position with cover. Continued to over-race for some distance thereafter. UPSTART LEGEND – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 5 Race 4: LAWRENCE & HANSON BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1050m) RIVER DANZKA – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Shifted notably inside the line of the course proper running rail, soon after when having to be shifted out improved onto heels having to be restrained. Apprentice D. Bennett was advised to exercise greater care and ensure he leaves sufficient room for his mount in similar circumstances. Laid out rounding the home-turn. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. BULSARA – Approaching the 900m shifted in to obtain a position a position closer to the running rail when not fully clear of TEMPLEMORE. Apprentice S. Willis was advised to exercise greater care. TEMPLEMORE – Shifted in marginally away from another runner near the 900m and bumped another runner. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Improved onto heels near the 50m having to be momentarily steadied. RUBAAHY – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. TALANA – Approaching the 900m obliged to steady and shift wider when NAUGHTY WORDS laid in. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MONTANA LADY – Began awkwardly and bumped. Obliged to steady between runners approaching the 900m.NAUGHTY WORDS – Approaching the 900m, laid in marginally before being obliged to shift wider in an effort to avail sufficient room for runners to the inside which were racing in restricted room and inconvenienced TALANA which was obliged to steady. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. MAGIC TALENT - Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. SUPER EXCEPTIONAL – When App S McCann was mistakenly declared on the mare due to a miscommunication, Stewards permitted App O. Webb to be declared the replacement rider. Stewards accepted that the necessitation for a replacement was a result of miscommunication between Trainer J. Sims and App S. McCann, nonetheless both parties were advised to ensure similar instances do not occur going forward. App O. Webb was permitted to not claim any of her allowance given the circumstances. Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted notably inside the line of the course proper running rail soon after the start and approaching the 900m, whilst being ridden forward, improved into restricted room between the inside running rail and TEMPLEMORE, having to be severely checked and losing ground as a result. App O. Webb was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to ensure far greater care is exercised in ensuring she does not place her mounts in similar circumstances. Race 5:MORT & CO CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1625m) DEL CAMPO – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.PANNIER (NZ) – Jockey G. Cartwright was reminded of her obligations under AR132(6)(b) of her obligations regarding use of the whip above shoulder height. CAPE CRUSADER – Raced keenly in the back straight. POWER PACK – After beginning well from an inside barrier was permitted to stride forward and subsequently may have settled further forward than expected. Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. Bumped on entering the back straight. UNTAMED SPIRIT (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SUPER FAIR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. JUBILANT – Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages. Bumped on entering the back straight. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. GLIDE ON BY – Jockey M. Wishart was reprimanded under AR132(6)(c) regarding her whip use when out of contention. MANTINELLO – Trainer H. Richardson advised the stable would attempt to ride the gelding with cover if circumstances permitted; settled on-pace with cover. Became momentarily awkward in its action approaching the 400m. Race 6: SHEPPARD EARTHMOVING MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200m) AURELIAN BLANC – Improved onto heels near the 1100m and was obliged to restrain and shift wider. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. DUN WITH ROSES – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. MAJESTIC TEAKO (NZ) – Shifted wider approaching the 300m in an effort to obtain clear running when improving and bumped. SHALZER – Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. TIME TO LAUNCH – Laid in under pressure leaving the 400m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. SIRI SAY RUBICK – Held-up approaching the 400m and again approaching the 300m having to be shifted wider on both occasions. VEGETABLE LASAGNE – Shifted out abruptly soon after the start hampering READY TO THUNDER. Approaching the 300m, became crowded between runners, bumped and became momentarily unbalanced. SUNCRAFT – Stood-flatfooted as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer P. Kalinowski was advised a warning would be placed on the mare as a result. ARIK LAD – Late Scratching on veterinary advice at 6:46pm after being fractious during transport to the course. Trainer G. Baker was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again. MONTAGLIARI – Began awkwardly. Raced wide and without cover for majority of the event. Approaching the 300m was crowded between runners, bumped and became momentarily unbalanced. Momentarily awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 200m. READY TO THUNDER - Began awkwardly and was hampered soon after the start. Race 7: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY MAIDEN HANDICAP (2150m) THE HINDUSTAN (NZ) – Laid out for some distance near the 1600m. When asked to comment on the performance, App D. Bennett reported the gelding travelled well for the majority however after improving onto the heels of a tiring runner near the 700m and being held-up to a point leaving the 600m when shifting wider and asked for an effort, failed to muster. Trainer’s representative P. Martin stated the stable would now consider the gelding’s immediate racing future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be coughing post-race. A post-race blood sample was taken for analysis. BILPA MOREA (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Laid in becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels near the 1400m. Laid in rounding the home-turn and in the home straight. MAH DRAGON – Raced keenly when being restrained to obtain a position with cover in the early stages. Laid out for some distance leaving the 1400m before being allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader when there was an apparent lack of pace. Under pressure from the 500m. Commenced to give ground from the 400m. MAJESTIC ANGEL (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide and without cover from the 1300m. PARIAH ON FIRE – Bumped the inside running rail leaving the 1000m. FIONTE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. FIREBALL FURY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. After beginning only fairly from the wide barrier was ridden positively in the early stages to obtain a forward position. Under pressure from the 600m.
