QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 1STJUNE 2024 WEATHER – Overcast/Showers TRACK RATING – Soft 6 (Race 1); Soft 7 (Race 2 & 3) RAIL – Out 5metres the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs & D MacDonald SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting: Race 7- Jockey N Tomizawa +1/2kg Following approximately 10mm of rainfall in a period immediately prior to the commencement of the meeting, the track was downgraded to a Soft 6 prior to Race 1 Race 1: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000m JIMMY'S DREAM- Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden to obtain a forward position should circumstance permit. Began awkwardly and was slow into stride before being ridden positively and settling in a wide midfield position. MASTER MAURICE- Bumped on jumping. ORTHIE'S GIRLS- Momentarily disappointed for a run near the 150m and shifted in. BUCKALTIUS- Harmlessly dislodged App D Bennett on route to the barrier before being quickly recaptured. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barrier and was passed fit to start. Trainer T Pascoe was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners as a result. Raced wide for the majority. ROCONONO- Bumped near the 700m, shifted in and bumped again. Bumped leaving the 600m. Laid in under pressure down the running, shifted in near the 150m inconveniencing ORTHIE’S GIRLS. App A Donald was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding. In considering the incident Stewards noted corrective efforts were made by App Donald, however these were determined to have been made at too late a juncture in the shift. COBURG- Bounded in the air on jumping and bumped. Became awkwardly placed on heels having to be momentarily steadied near the 150m. TISANI EMPEROR- Taken in by another runner which was inconvenienced near the 150m. Race 2: TTC MEMBER DAVID ROBINSON CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300m NO BETTER TIME- Bumped passing 400m and was momentarily hampered. Jockey G Cartwright advised that her mount travelled well until the 600m and from that point failed to let down as expected. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. Trainer M Currie stated the stable were disappointed with the performance having expected a forward showing and undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition in the coming days. RUBAAHY- Taken in by another runner before being crowded on jumping. Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and settle in a forward position outside the leader near the 800m. Shifted in leaving the 900m momentarily crowding MAPLE MAGIC. Jockey M Savva was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Shifted in under pressure leaving the 200m inconveniencing FINAL SELECTION. Jockey M Savva was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to exercise greater effort in straightening her mounts in similar circumstances. FINAL SELECTION- Slow into stride. Held up on heels approaching the 500m and again approaching the 400m. Inconvenienced leaving the 200m having to be momentarily steadied and shifted wider. WIND RUSH FARM- Tightened on jumping and lost ground. DOONA- Shifted out in an effort to improve leaving the 400m, inconveniencing NO BETTER TIME. Jockey M Wishart was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. MAPLE MAGIC- Began awkwardly, shifted in and tightened runners to the inside. Momentarily hampered leaving the 900m. ABOVE THE WORLD- Shifted in and away from another runner on jumping before having to be eased off heels and losing ground. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Soft 7 Race 3: MOORE TRAILERS WINTER PROVINCIAL STAYERS - HEAT - BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 2150m GRIPPING- App J Franklin was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR143(14)(b) for failing to claim his full allowance on the gelding. Raced wide in the early staged before being permitted to stride forward and settle in a forward position near the 1200m. Laid in rounding the home turn. HADOUKEN- Bumped on jumping. TWO SMOKIN BARRELS- Laid in near the 900m. Under pressure from the 700m. FAST LADY- Laid in rounding the home turn. TROPIC SANDS- Over-raced in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Attempted to improve into a marginal run leaving the 400m before becoming awkwardly placed on heels, clipping heels and blundering momentarily approaching the 300m. App Bennett was advised to exercise greater care and exercise better judgement so as to not place his mounts in similar conditions, particularly given the prevailing racing conditions. GIDDY GAN'S JOY- Laid in rounding the home turn and abruptly on entering the home straight. SEA TREASURES (NZ)- Bumped on jumping. ROYAL GEORGE- Bumped near the 800m. Raced wide for the majority. BUMP'N'RUN- Raced wide in the early stages. Bumped near the 800m. Under pressure from the 700m. Following the running of this event the racing surface was downgraded to a Heavy 8 as a result of continued showers. Following the running of this event the riding group expressed concerns with the worsening visibility during the running of the opening three events as a result of the prevailing weather conditions and predominantly the kickback in running. After further discussions amongst Stewards and the riding cohort, and with adherence to the Racing Queensland/QRIC race meeting abandonment protocol, the decision was made to abandon the remainder of the meeting due to visibility deteriorating to an extent where safety of rider and horse was no longer assured.
