Race 1:EMPIRE OF JAPAN QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m

JUST CLIFFY- Momentarily held up on heels near the 250m. Laid in abruptly away from another runner leaving the 100m before being corrected by its rider. Raced greenly down the running. Raced wide for the majority.

AUGURY- As Jockey M McDonald was delayed arriving on course due to transport difficulties and no other senior rider was available Stewards permitted App L Sykes to be substituted as rider of the gelding. On pre-race inspection it was identified that AUGURY had been gelded as was erroneously advertised as a colt. Given that the procedure was performed prior to AUGURY every racing or trialling Stewards took no further action other than to remind Trainer L Ross of his obligations regarding such matters and to direct Mr Ross to enact a stable return for AUGURY indicating the gelding procedure and have that stable return backdated to reflect its timing accurately. Obliged to steady off heels approaching the 200m. Raced wide for the majority.

EXPLOSIVE TYCOON- Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted out marginally under pressure approaching the 200m taking OUTTA CONTROL wider and hampering AUGURY. Jockey A Allen was advised to exercise greater care in ensuring his mounts do not shift ground in similar circumstances. Jockey A Allen advised that his mount had raced greenly throughout and proved disappointing in its finishing efforts.

Held up on heels on entering the home straight before shifting in and being disappointed for a run, tightened and obliged to restrain passing the 200m. Then shifted out abruptly across heels to obtain clear running and inconvenienced STANDLEE approaching the 100m. App O Webb was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) as a result of this incident and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground.
