Race 1: JLS BUILDERS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1300m

LUCKY EXCHANGE- Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 200m.

OZARCH- Slow into stride and bumped on jumping. Bumped leaving the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils in running. As this was the second such occurrence of bilateral epistaxis Trainer K Kemp was advised that under the provisions of AR79 the gelding would now be barred from racing in Australia.

BEEBEE DAZZLER- Bumped and taken marginally wider near the 1250m, becoming momentarily awkwardly placed on heels as a result. Laid in and away from another runner on entering the home straight, despite the efforts of its rider, and tightened LUCKY EXCHANGE. Obliged to shift wider to obtain clear running approaching the 100m and bumped.

SKYFORGER- Raced wide in the early stages before being steadied to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail near the 1100m. Momentarily held up for clear running leaving the 300m before being shifted in. Improved onto heels and was shifted wider leaving the 100m.

VONZITHER- Shifted out marginally and bumped near the 1250m. Laid in soon after entering the home straight. Laid in and bumped approaching the 100m.

I PROMISE YOU- Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward and settle in a leading position near the 850m.

GALWAY HUSSLER- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly near the 1000m when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover.

DISCERNING- Ridden conservatively in the early stages from the wide barrier to obtain a rearward position with cover nearer the inside running rail. Laid in under pressure down the running.

THE PUNISHER- Shifted wider to improve leaving the 300m and bumped. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Sears advised that the stable were disappointed with the performance and intended to have the gelding examined by the stable veterinarian in the coming days, which would likely include the taking of blood sampled for analysis and an endoscopic examination. Ms Sears undertook to advise Stewards should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition subsequent to those examinations.

Race 2: TOOWOOMBA HOSPITAL EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP  1100m

SMILING ZAC (NZ)- Bumped on the hindquarters near the 950m, became unbalanced and shifted out marginally. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

BARRYMORE- Became fractious and harmlessly dislodged App D McGillivray on exiting the mounting yard. Began awkwardly and bumped.

CONNEWARRE- Crowded and bumped on jumping.

KEYBOARD- Began awkwardly and blundered. Laid in near the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. Performed below market expectations. Trainer C Geran advised that, in his opinion, the heavy weight impost and the unfavourable barrier were telling factors in the finish. Mr Geran added further that the mare would now likely be sent for a short let-up. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Post-race blood samples were taken for analysis.

CHAPPAQUIDDICK- Became fractious in the mounting yard and impacted heavily with a section of perimeter fence. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed fit to start. Trainer T Pascoe was advised a warning would be placed on the mares pre-race manners. Shifted in and bumped the inside running rail near the 700m.

FIRST PEOPLES- Began awkwardly and bumped.

RECANATI- Jockey N Fazackerley pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 950m he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of HEART OF KINGS, dictating the line of that runner in, before crossing HEAR OF KINGS when insufficiently clear causing that runner to be eased and shifted in further, consequently tightening the running of ELECTRIC ARROW, which was bumped and obliged to restrain and lost its rightful running. Jockey Fazackerleys license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7days, to commence 18 August 2024, up to and including 24 August 2024. In considering the matter Stewards considered the degree of carelessness to be in the low-range and severity of interference to be in the mid-range, Jockey Fazackerleys guilty plea, good record in relation to the rule as well as the general circumstances of the breach. Jockey Fazackerley was advised of his right to an appeal.

BUTT HEADS- Bumped on jumping, shifted in and became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. Bumped near the 600m. Laid in under pressure down the running.

BOOM BOOM BELLA- Connections advised it would be the intention for the mare to be ridden to obtain a more forward position than in its most recent starts. After beginning only fairly was ridden positively but was unable to obtain a forward position and consequently settled toward the rear of the field. Bumped on jumping, shifted in and bumped again.

HAVA CRAICIN TIME- Bumped on jumping, before becoming crowded and bumping again.

HEART OF KINGS- Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Dictated inwards approaching the 950m before being obliged to ease and shift in further tightening runners to the inside. Shifted in marginally passing the 650m when not fully clear of ELECTRIC ARROW, causing that runner to be restrained. App S Willis was reprimanded for careless riding PURSUANT to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering the matter, Stewards noted the inward shift from HEART OF KINGS was marginal and may have been impacted by slight pressure from an outside runner.

Race 3: HUTCHINSON BUILDERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP  870m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the start after App D McGillivray raised concerns with his runner being afforded a fair start. After viewing the footage Stewards were satisfied that all runners were afforded a fair start and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

ARNIE'S ARMY- Laid in approaching the 300m. Laid in, when tiring, passing the 150m and momentarily crowded LITTLEMISSCANCAN, before being corrected by its rider.  Jockey N Fazackerley was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Stewards noted Mr Minters comments and advised that a more forward showing would be expected in the geldings future events.

BURLEIGH MAGIC- Laid in under pressure down the running.

RUBINOVA- Laid out rounding the home turn and bumped passing the 300m.

YOU MIGHT THINK- Began awkwardly and bumped. Tired from the 600m. Stewards questioned App S Callow regarding the fast pace set during the early and middle stages before her mount commenced to tire, particularly as to why that near the 1100m, when it became apparent the gelding was going to be unable to obtain the lead, she persisted with pressuring her mount when a more favourable option would have been to attempt to settle her mount and obtain a position just off the leader in EXPLOSIVE DRAGON. App Callow advised that her instructions had been to obtain the lead from the wide barrier and concurred with Stewards, with the benefit of hindsight, that she should have desisted with those efforts near the 1100m attempted to obtain a position just off EXPLOSIVE DRAGON. Stewards advised App Callow that the ride would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Team for further tuition.

EXPLOSIVE DRAGON- Stewards questioned App C Baker regarding the fast pace set through the early and middle stages, noting an apparent lack of effort being made to prevent such a pace from being set. Stewards advised App Baker that the ride would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Team for further tuition.
