Race 1: FIVE WAYS HOTEL BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1300 M
IT'SMEMARIO - Momentarily crowded at the 200m by TATTLE.
DOWN THE BARREL - Laid in from the 200m.
NEW JOY - Laid out around the home turn and early in the home straight.
BLERIOT - Made the home turn awkwardly.
WORTHY ESSGEE - Race wide without cover for the majority.
Race 2: RDO EQUIPMENT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1000 M
ARTIE BEATSOME - Slow begin.
MACHINE HEAD - Passing the 300m shifted out and carried PITAVAGO out towards TAKARA START. Rider N. Fazackerley reported the gelding was left flatfooted by the fast tempo, showed a tendency to resent the tongue tie and would be better suited over a longer distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
PITAVAGO - Carried out passing the 300m.
BUTT HEADS - Slow to begin. Attempted to improve in a doubtful run to the inside of PITAVAGO near the 900m, got its head up and steadied, when racing in restricted room. Near the 200m became momentary unbalanced when brushed by ARTIE BEATSOME. App C. Baker explained with the fast tempo of the race, the gelding got further back then intended. She said with clear running in home straight, BUTT HEADS made good ground in the run to the winning post.
Race 3: QUEENSLAND COTTON CLASS 1 PLATE 1625 M
LISSARO (NZ) - Shifted considerable ground in the home straight. App S Callow was spoken to advisedly and notified she must stop riding and correct her mount in similar situations.
NO BETTER TIME - In the early and middle stages, raced wide without cover; and near the 700m, was carried wider by LISSARO, which shifted out to improve.
SHEER REWARD - Rider A. Allen reported the gelding began better than expected and consequently raced in a more forward position.
TRAUTMAN - Began awkwardly. Held up for a run passing the 400m to the 300m.
AVOID THE MISSTRES – When held up approaching the home turn, steadied from the heels of UNTAMED SPIRIT (NZ) before shifting wider to make a run down outside of the field in the straight. Approaching 200m, momentarily shifted out before being corrected.
DUMA - Raced wide without cover for the majority.
SHOTGUN SIXTYFOUR - After beginning well settled in the lead.
UNTAMED SPIRIT (NZ) - Made the crossing near the 1500m awkwardly and shortly after, steadied from heels CRIMSON WARNING (L Tilley), which after crossing, also steadied. Rider L Tilley was reprimanded and told he must ensure he does not excessively slow the speed of his mounts after crossing other runners.
Race 4: MONDO CONSTRUCTIONS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1625 M
THE RIGHT WAY (NZ) - Passing the 1400m, steadied from the heels of PERFECT ENCOUNTER. Held up for a short distance around the home turn.
LUCKY EXCHANGE - Slow to begin. Near the 1300m, steadied from the heels of START STRUTTING. Passing the 1200m, again steadied from the heels of START STRUTTING, which steadied from the heels of THE RIGHT WAY (NZ). Near the 700m, was momentarily steadied from the heels of FESTIVAL PRINCE.
PICKO ROCKS - Slow to begin. Raced wide without cover for the majority.
START STRUTTING - Held up for a run from the 300m to the 200m.
PERFECT ENCOUNTER - In the middle stages raced keenly.
NO GOING BACK - Rider M Savva was fined $200 under AR132(6)(c) for use of the whip on the gelding when out of contention.
Race 5: MOORE TRAILERS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000 M
KEWELL - Raced wide without cover from the 600m.
EVOLEUS - Slow into stride. In the early stages raced keenly. Passing the 500m was crowded for room between I WANT THAT MAN and SHE AINT SWEET, which was laying out. App L. Sykes reported after leaving the gates, the saddle on the mare shifted to the side placing him in a disadvantage for the remainder of the race, which resulted in him easing the mare down from the 350m.
TEDDY BEE BEAR - Bumped at the start.
LADY LETHAN - Rider M. Savva pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more than permitted. M. Savva’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days, commencing midnight 31st August and expiring midnight 8th September 2024. In assessing penalty, account was taken of her guilty plea, record, totality of whip strikes (16) and the penalty guidelines for whip breaches.
CHARM TELLER - On leaving the gates, shifted in, got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance.
SHE AIN’T SWEET - Began awkwardly and bumped TEDDY BEE BEART. Shortly after the start, inconvenienced and steadied when Lady Letham (M Savva), shifted in before being corrected. Rider M. Savva was advised to exercise more care. Rider K Yoshida was reminded of his obligations regarding use of the whip on his mounts when out of contention.
Race 6: AREK FUEL CLASS 2 HANDICAP 2000 M
CONEY ISLAND BABY - Raced keen in the lead. Rider B. Ainsworth reported she led comfortably on the gelding as was expected, travelled well throughout but did not let down when asked for an effort & compounded in the straight. Trainer H. Norman was unable to offer any explanation for the performance, however; since reported the gelding is displaying signs of a virus and would now be freshened up.
LEERY - When under pressure in the straight, laid in.
HOTZINO (NZ) – Trainer A. Plumb, representing Trainer K. Lees, was severely reprimanded for failing to present HOTZINO and ENTERPRISE PRIVATE, engaged in Race 7, on course by the required time.
GIRRAMAY – Near the 1750m steadied when momentary tightened by ANOTHER DAZZLER. Then commenced to race keenly, shifted out around the field, was allowed to stride and settle outside the leader passing the 1200m
Race 7: PRYDE'S EASIFEED MAIDEN PLATE 1625 M
ENTERPRISE PRIVATE - Fractious in the gates prior to the start and then slow to begin. Eased down 200m. App B Wheeler reported after being slow to begin, the gelding was not comfortable back in the field, never travelled and failed to respond to his riding. Trainer’s representative M Eggleston, since advised the gelding had arrived in the Gold Coast stables the day prior and may have found the quick turnaround travel to Toowoomba unsuitable for the horse. He said the gelding would receive some light work, be somewhat freshened up and maybe consider a gear change. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
VISCOUNT SYDNEY - (Anthony Allen) A post-race veterinary examination revealed blood at both nostrils. VISCOUNT SYDNEY (a) for a period of 2 months after the attack of bleeding, must not, without the permission of the Stewards, be trained, exercised or galloped on a racecourse, recognized training track, private training establishment, or other place; (b) must not start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after: (i) a gallop of at least 1,000 metres: or (ii) an Official Trial or Jump Out, in the presence, and to the satisfaction of a Steward.
STARATH (Michael Murphy) – Kicked enroute to the gates and underwent a veterinary examination.
