GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 5: Jockey J. Orman (+0.5kg)
Race 1: EMPIRE OF JAPAN BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1300m
ADELAD- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was declared fit to start. Over-raced approaching the 900m when being restrained in the effort to obtain cover. Lost its off fore plate in running.

BETTER BE NORDY- Bumped the inside running rail passing 900m. Held up for clear running from a point leaving the 400m until near the 250m.
DEPTH CHARGE- Began awkwardly. Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the gelding, specifically App T. Fenlons permitting the gelding to lead the field by such a notable margin. App Fenlon advised her instructions had been to attempt to be positive on her mount and settle just off the leaders if possible, adding further that it had not been her intention to lead the field by such a margin, however after beginning well from the wide barrier and it becoming evident the gelding would be posted wide without cover she permitted her mount to stride forward approaching the 1000m, settling in a leading position on the inside running rail passing the 900m. App Fenlon stated that, at this time, her mount commenced to take charge and after attempting to obtain a shorter hold on the gelding was then unable to restrain her mount sufficiently which resulted in the extensive lead being established. Trainer M Currie corroborated the instructions and noted he was disappointed with the gelding having established such a prominent lead in the middle stages, noting it resulted in DEPTH CHARGE’s poor finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Stewards noted the explanation provided by App Fenlon and Mr Currie, particularly that the instructions were consistent with the geldings usual racing pattern, and nonetheless intend to review betting records for the event.
TIJUANA TWO STEP- After refusing to load was declared a late scratching at 1:49pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on the mare to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to successful wagers placed prior to 149pm:
15cents in the dollar for the win
