QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 26TH OCTOBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4; Good 3 after Race 1 RAIL – Out 1metre the entire OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs & C Taylor GENERAL As App L Sykes was unable to fulfil his engagements due to injury rider replacements were permitted as per Stewards race day summary. Race 1: MPC KINETIC CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050m READY AND LUCKY- Bumped passing the 600m. SURREAL ASCOT- App S Willis pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding in that leaving the 800m she did permit her mount to shift in, tightening the running of COLTMAN, before continuing to shift in and obliging that runner to be restrained approaching the 700m and lose its rightful running. App Willis’ license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 9 days to commence 28th October up to and including 5th November 2024. In considering the matter Stewards determined the degree of carelessness and severity of interference to be in the low range, as well as noting App Willis’ guilty plea, forthright evidence and poor record in relation to the rule. App Willis was advised of her right to an appeal. COLTMAN- Bumped on jumping. Tightened and obliged to restrain from heels approaching the 700m. Bumped passing the 600m. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. HOKUSAI- Laid in throughout. Bumped passing the 600m. Raced wide for the majority. Hung in down the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer M Currie was advised the mare would be require to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. HUMAN TOUCH- Began awkwardly and bumped. ARIAT- Began awkwardly and bumped. DUCHESS BREE- Slow to begin. COLLAGEN QUEEN- Bumped on jumping after being marginally slow to begin, was crowded and obliged to ease. Held up for clear running from the 400m until leaving the 300m. Hung in down the home straight proving difficult to ride out. Trainer M Laine was advised the mare would be require to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Race 2: YCJAC - DARBY MCCARTHY CUP CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1000m ELECTED (IRE)- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure down the running. ADALIE- As no Apprentice riders were available, Stewards permitted Jockey L Tarrant to be substituted as rider of the mare. Was fractious in the mounting yard and made heavy contact with a gate post sustain an abrasion to the offside rump and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 5:17pm. Prior to the declaration all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 5:17pm: 13 cents in the dollar for the win5 cents in the dollar for the place on the winner18 cents in the dollar for 2nd place17 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Trainer K Geran was advised the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily under race day conditions prior to again being permitted to start in a race. HEROIC CHIEF- Raced wide for the majority. TEN TRINITY SQUARE- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in rounding the home turn. MISS DE BLAAS- App O Kendall advised that, in her opinion, the mare may have come to the end of its preparation. Stable representative K Kropp advised that the mare would now likely be sent for an immediate spell. POINT BREAK- Crowded near the 400m and was momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. Shifted out and away from heels approaching the 100m. ELECTRIC ARROW- Shifted out leaving the 400m crowding POINT BREAK. App A Graham was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident and advised to exercise greater control to ensure her mounts don’t unduly shift in similar circumstances. BLERIOT- Began awkwardly. Following the running of this event the racing surface was retrospectively upgraded to a Good 3. Race 3: EMPIRE OF JAPAN BM70 HANDICAP 1300m BEEBEE DAZZLER- Tired noticeably from the 200m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which reveal the gelding to have a cardiac arrythmia. As this was the first such occurrence Trainer K Kemp was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate inclusive of an ECG as well as a 1000m gallop with an immediate veterinary examination prior to being permitted to start in any race, trial or jump-out. MICRO- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in onto heels near the 500m. Laid in under pressure down the running. UNCLE RUSS- Slow into stride. Improved onto heels approaching the 800m having to be steadied. Held up for clear running from a point leaving the 400m before being disappointed for a run leaving the 300m and shifted in near the 250m. FUN SPONGE- Shifted in approaching the 1000m placing BEAN ROCKING in restricted room for some distance thereafter. App D Bennett was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident and advised to exercise far greater care when shifting ground. BEAN ROCKING- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Taken in approaching the 1000m and placed in restricted room for some distance thereafter. EXPECTANT- Held up for clear running from a point approaching the 400m until leaving the 300m. Race 4: SWIN MEMBERS, STAFF & BOARD BM60 HANDICAP 1625m SKATER- Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Under pressure from the 500m. CAPITAN DE SEDA- Began awkwardly. Improved onto heels and shifted out abruptly approaching the 400m. Laid in under pressure down the running. BILPA MOREA (NZ)- Began awkwardly. Ridden conservatively from the wide barrier in the early stages and settled in a rearward position. Trailed the field notable in the middle stages. When queried regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages App O Kendall concurred with Stewards that she would have been better positioned to have endeavoured to have maintained contact with the field between the 1500m-1300m, noting the manner in which her mount finished off the event. ONOMATOPOEIA- Raced keenly down the back straight. CRIMSON WARNING- Commenced to tire from the 400m and was not pressured in the home straight. Jockey K Zechner advised that, in his opinion, the mare felt awkward in its action when failing to respond to his urgings and as such he elected not to place it under any pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. A post-race blood sample was taken for analysis. Trainer K Geran advised on 27 October that the mare had pulled up well following the event and undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding its condition in the coming days. DUMA- Held up for clear running from the 500m until being shifted wider passing the 400m. SUPER FAIR- Laid in and bumped despite the efforts of its rider leaving the 300m. TERMITE- Slow to begin. Raced keenly approaching the 1400m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Held up for clear running from a point approaching the 400m until the 300m. Bumped leaving the 300m. Race 5: MILES ACCOMMODATION SERVICES MAIDEN HANDICAP 1200m TOP PERFORMER- Began awkwardly. After beginning on terms was unable to muster the speed necessary to maintain its position and trailed the field throughout. Finished significantly tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer P Wallace was advised the gelding would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race. JACKS AND SODA- Shifted out and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority. THE BIGBANG THEORY- Laid in under pressure down the running. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and momentarily hampered WIFE IS RIGHT. Jockey Richardson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. MAD MISSION- Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped the inside running rail approaching the 400m. DANNY'S BOY- Held up for clear running from the 500m until the early stages of the home straight. Before again being held up from the 150m an went to the line without being fully tested. JEDIAH- Bumped when crowded on jumping. Raced wide from the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running. WIFE IS RIGHT- Held up for clear running over the final 50m after being momentarily hampered. Race 6: GARTH PERKINS MEMORIAL BM62 HANDICAP 2150m CHASING JACKLEY- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Tired from the 150m. When queried regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, particularly the fast pace set throughout, App R Thorburn advised it had not been his intention to set such a fast pace however his mount had raced keenly in the early stages, over-racing near the 1500m and during that period his hold had slipped placing him at a disadvantage when attempting to steady his mount form that point. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. App R Thorburn was fined $200 under the provisions of AR128(2) for leaving the course without permission. TAVIESLASS (NZ)- Raced keenly on heel near the 1300m and was shifted wider. GOING TO THE SUN- Raced wide from the 1300m. Laid in under pressure down the running. DESHORENTE- Raced keenly through the early and middle stages. Commenced to weaken from the 700m and finished tailed off. Jockey G Cartwright advised that she felt her mount may have choked down. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J Gleeson advised on 27 October that the mare had pulled up well and consideration would now be given to enacting a gear change.
