QUEENSLAND RACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB SATURDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2024 WEATHER – Fine TRACK RATING – Good 4; Good 3 following Race 2 RAIL – Out 3m 800-300; Out 5m the remainder OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – C WarrenStewards – J Childs, W Glass & C Taylor GENERAL Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting: Race 4- Jockey B Newport +1kg Race 1: BROWN BROTHERS PROSECCO PADDOCK BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1000m RUSSIAN MINT- Laid out rounding the home turn. ULUWATU- Raced wide for the majority. PHONDLE- After being late to arrive on course due to transport difficulties underwent a pre-race veterinary examination, inclusive of blood samples, and was passed fit to start. Began awkwardly, bumped and lost ground. STELLER EAGLE- Bumped and became momentarily unbalance on jumping. Race 2: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1625m VOLDEMORT- Raced keenly on heels near the 1300m. CONQUISTADORES- Began awkwardly and shifted out. Tightened and obliged to restrain passing the 1500m. Over-raced on heels near the 1300m. PACKAGE- Commenced to race keenly near thee 1300m and continued to do so down the back straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary exam which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. BRINGME- Began awkwardly. PICADOR- App C Baker pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 1500m she did permit her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of DUCHESS BREE which was tightened, obliged to steady and shifted in, consequently tightening the running of SAVVY BEE which was also obliged to steady and shifted in, in turn tightening the running of CONQUISTADROES which was obliged to restrain and lost its rightful running. App Bakers license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 10 November up to and including 17 November 2024. In considering the matter Stewards noted App Bakers guilty plea, good record in relation to the rule and apprentice status, as well as the degree of carelessness and severity of interference. App Baker was advised of her right to an appeal. Raced keenly near the 1200m. Bumped the inside running rail near the 900m. Momentarily steadied near the 400m to be shifted out and around heels. Laid in for the majority and under pressure down the running. SAVVY BEE (NZ)- Began awkwardly. Tightened and obliged to steady passing the 1500m. Over-raced on heels near the 1300m. Bumped the inside running rail near the 1200m. DUCHESS BREE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Tightened and obliged to steady passing the 1500m. Raced keenly for a short distance when crossed approaching the 1000m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the near hind consistent with being galloped on in running. Following the running of this event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3 Race 3: SUBZERO AIRCONDITIONING CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1300m Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to review the photo finish for 3rd place. Once satisfied with the advertised placings correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers. TALANA- Bumped approaching the winning-post THE DEPUTY (NZ)- Raced keenly in the early stages when being restrained in an effort to obtain a position with cover. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped approaching the winning-post. HARBOURMASTER- Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure down the running. PUREZZA- Bumped the inside running rail near the 700m. DOWN THE BARREL- Began awkwardly. NEW MAHER- Underwent a post-race veterinary exam which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Race 4: HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL TOOWOOMBA MAIDEN HANDICAP 1000m BOARD MEMBER- Raced keenly in the early stages before being crossed passing the 700m when obliged to be restrained further from heels and shifted wider. WICKED WINNEY- Bumped on jumping. Laid in near the 400m. JEROBI- Buffeted on jumping. Jockey Zechner pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that passing the 700m he did permit his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BOARD MEMBER causing that runner to be further restrained and shifted out to avoid his mounts heels. Jockey Zechners license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 6 November up to and including 12 November 2024. In considering the matter Stewards noted Jockey Zechners excellent record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea, the degree of carelessness and severity of interference as well as the racing manners of BOARD MEMBER leading into the incident which were deemed to be a mitigating factor, nonetheless it was the view of Stewards that Jockey Zechner had never established a sufficient margin of clearance to permit his mount to shift into the line of BOARD MEMBER at any stage. Jockey Zechner was advised of his right to an appeal. GIDDAY GIDDAY- Raced wide for the majority. HANK THE HUSTLER- Bumped on jumping. TWOPENCE- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority. SPRUCE- Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift wider around the heels of a weakening runner near the 500m. Disappointed for a run and obliged to check leaving the 300m. Stewards noted that a sufficient run had momentarily presented but had narrowed prior to App Bennett improving sufficiently into that position. App Bennett was advised to exercise greater care when improving into similar positions. QUEEN NINA (NZ)- Faltered in its action near the 700m and was retired from the race. An immediate veterinary examination revealed a fracture to the near-fore cannon and the mare was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds. Post-mortem samples were taken for analysis. QUEEN OF THE SKIES- Bumped on jumping. Shifted out marginally leaving the 300m resulting in SPRUCE being disappointed for a run. Stewards noted the marginal nature of the shift though nonetheless advised Jockey O’Connell to ensure his mounts don’t unduly shift any ground at similar stages of any race. ATLANTIC LACE- Buffeted on jumping. Race 5: EMPIRE OF JAPAN QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1000m GIGGY- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running. HIT THE BUTTON- Buffeted when tightened and obliged to check and lost ground near the 900m. KEEP IT LOKI- Bumped on jumping. Tightened, bumped and obliged to steady near the 900m. Shifted in when not fully clear of KOOL BRUCE causing that runner to be steadied passing the 800m. App L O’Donnell was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) and advised to exercise far grater care in similar circumstances. MISSION POSSIBLE- Crowded and bumped on jumping. Raced keenly on heels near the 600m. MIXED SIGNALS- Began very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped. Laid in and away from another runner near the 900m, tightening the running of ZHENG YOU which was steadied and taken in, tightening the running of KEEP IT LOKI which was steadied, taken in and bumped with HIT THE BUTTON which was buffeted, tightened and obliged to check. KOOL BRUCE which was racing to the inside of HIT THE BUTTON was also tightened and bumped that runner and the inside running rail. Jockey Tilley was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident and advised to exercise greater effort in preventing his mounts from shifting in similar circumstances. Stewards noted that KOOL BRUCE had shifted inside the line of the course proper running rail prior to the incident was had been obliged to shift out marginally at the time of the incident which was determined to be a mitigating factor, nonetheless the predominant cause of the incident was deemed to be the inward shift from MIXED SIGNALS and the insufficient effort of Jockey Tilley in preventing that shift. TALLULAH- Bumped on jumping. ZHENG YOU- Bumped on jumping. Tightened and obliged to steady near the 900m. KOOL BRUCE- Shifted inside the line of the course proper running rail and was obliged to shift out marginally before being tightened and bumped by another runner and the inside running rail at the 900m. Obliged to steady from heels passing the 800m. Raced keenly on heels near the 600m. Momentarily held up leaving the 300m. Race 6: TTC MEMBER IAN SULLIVAN BM70 HANDICAP 870m WATERWORLD- Slow into stride. Performed disappointingly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to have a Cardiac Arrhythmia. Trainer C Geran was advised that as this was the second such occurrence the gelding would be subject to the requirements of the Code of Practice for Cardiac Arrhythmias for such. SHOCK AND AWE- Slow into stride and bumped on jumping. Shifted out passing the 300m ad bumped. CABRINELLA- Bumped passing the 300m, shifted out and bumped a further runner. Laid in under pressure down the running. PALAWA KANI- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running. NICCI DE ROSA- Bumped passing the 300m. Race 7: CARPET ONE - ELEGANT BLINDS MAIDEN PLATE 1300m DOUBLE GLAZED- Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted in marginally leaving the 700m and bumped. DOWNEY- Began awkwardly and bumped. Bumped passing the 700m. SERAPUS- Raced keenly approaching the 1000m. Tired from the 300m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey K Yoshida advised that, in his opinion, his mounts over-racing during the run had been a contributing factor to the poor finishing effort. Trainer B Baker advised on 3 November that the gelding had pulled up well and a gear change would now likely be enacted. Additionally, Mr Baker undertook to advise should anything become apparent regarding the geldings condition in the coming days. THE BIGBANG THEORY- Began awkwardly and bumped. VAMPIRE KISSES- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid in and bumped the inside running rail near the 250m.
