TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB

TOOWOOMBA - TUESDAY 5, NOVEMBER 2024

WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – GOOD 4; UPGRADED TO A GOOD 3 FOLLOWING RACE 1    RAIL – +3M 800M-300M, +5M REMAINDER

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – E. Tickner
Stewards – C. Taylor

GENERAL

Given the limited number of riders attending the meeting, Stewards accepted the explanation for late declarations. When Jockey C. Eaton was unable to attend the meeting due to injury, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-Day Summary. Jockey Eaton was advised she requires a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Stewards permitted the following overweight when no other rider was available closer to the weight:
Race 4, No. 9 – MY ONE – Jockey M. Schrapel +1.5kg (55.5kg)

Race 1: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE MAIDEN PLATE (1650m)

DESTINY GUNGHO – Raced keenly in the early stages.

NYTHE – Slow to begin. Blundered leaving the 200m.

READY FOR VEGAS – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

CATCH CRIES – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Leaving the 200m, laid in under pressure crowding PARRA before being corrected by its rider.

FITASAFIDDLE – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1000m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

PARRA – Stewards permitted Jockey N. Fazackerley to ride 1kg over the allotted weight of 56.5kg when no other rider was available. Jockey Fazackerley was subsequently fined $100 under the provisions of AR190(3). When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey N. Fazackerley advised that the mare came under heavy pressure leaving the 600m, and proved disappointing. Trainer J. Brown advised that consideration would be given to the mare’s immediate racing future. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. When further asked to comment on the mare leading the event, which was not consistent with its usual racing pattern, Jockey Fazackerley advised after beginning well from an inside barrier, and after there had been an apparent lack of pace early in the event, he elected to allow the mare to obtain the lead. Stewards noted the explanation.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 2: NATIONAL TILES TOOWOOMBA CLASS 1 PLATE (1650m)

CYGNET RIVER – Carried wider leaving the 1200m when EL KABONG shifted out to avoid heels. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

EL KABONG – Steadied off the heels of ONOMATOPOEIA and shifted wider leaving the 1200m when that runner was obliged to ease off the heels of GOIN’ SKITZ. Raced keenly for some distance thereafter. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Savva reported that the gelding proved disappointing when placed under pressure.

GOIN’ SKITZ – Shifted in to obtain a position closer to the running rail when not fully clear of ONOMATOPOEIA, which was obliged to ease, resulting in EL KABONG, who was trailing that runner, having to steady and shift wider to avoid heels. Jockey D. Evans was severely reprimanded under the provisions of Ar131(a) for careless riding.

ONOMATOPOEIA – Eased off the heels of GOIN’ SKITZ leaving the 1200m.

READY TO THUNDER – Stewards acceded to a late gear change for the gelding to wear blinkers, when there had been technical issues with submitting the return. Raced wide and without cover from the 800m.

DUMA – Blundered on jumping. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Jockey N. Fazackerley pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(b) in that he did fail to ride his mount out to the finish, which in the Stewards’ opinion may have compromised the mare’s chances of finishing third. Jockey Fazackerley was subsequently fined the sum of $200. In assessing penalty, Stewards could not be definitively satisfied that his actions had fully compromised the mare’s opportunity to finish third in the event when considering the 1/2 head margin, however, were of the opinion his vigour was far below the expected standard. Stewards further noted his very good record in relation to the rule, and guilty plea. Jockey Fazackerley was advised of his rights to an appeal.

SUPER FAIR – Began awkwardly. Obliged to shift out off the heels of ONOMATOPOEIA to obtain clear running leaving the 200m.

FEASO STICKS – Bumped on jumping. Bumped again soon after the start when BLUE EYE DAME shifted in. Weakened noticeably from the 200m. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice O. Kendal advised in her opinion, the mare may have reached the end of its preparation. Trainer K. Kirwin concurred with the opinion of Apprentice Kendal and advised the mare would now be sent for a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Randall advised that the mare travelled well throughout the early and middle stages, however proved very disappointing when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer P. Randall was advised that a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for the poor performance.
