Following an inspection of the male jockey’s room, a mobile phone belonging to App C. Collis was located. App Collis subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR218(4)(b) in that he did have in his possession his mobile phone following the commencement of the race-meeting. App Collis was subsequently fined $500. In assessing penalty, Stewards considered App Collis’ guilty plea and unblemished record in relation to the rule. App Collis was advised of his rights to an appeal.
GENERAL
Stewards permitted the following overweights:
Race 2- MOONSTRIKER – Jockey M. Murphy +0.5kg
ARIAT – App D Bennett +0.5kg (55kg MRW)
When Jockey J. Huxtable was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted replacements as per the Stewards Race-Day Summary. Jockey Huxtable was advised he requires a medical prior to race-riding again.
Race 1: SUBZERO AIRCONDITIONING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1300m)
BIOGRAPHER – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. When attempting to restrain, to sit outside ELECTED, commenced to over-race near the 800m despite the efforts of its rider and as such was permitted to stride forward and take up the lead on the inside running soon after. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow recovery. When asked to comment on the performance, App D Bennett reported the gelding travelled well until the 500m, before only finishing off the event fairly thereafter before weakening leaving the 100m, adding that, in his opinion, had his mount not over-raced in the early and middle stages it would likely have exhibited an improved finishing effort.
SCHMOOZER – Raced wide and without cover from the 700m.
ELECTED (IRE) – Laid in near the 550m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
THAT'S AN EXTRA – When Jockey L. Tilley was delayed due to transport difficulties (flight cancellation), Stewards permitted Jockey K. Zechner to be declared the replacement rider. Began awkwardly before being momentarily crowded between runners soon after the start. Jockey Zechner reported that his saddle slipped back on jumping, before slipping further on straightening, placing him at a slight disadvantage when under pressure.
THE DEPUTY (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly for a short distance after being crossed near the 800m. Held-up from the 400m before shifting to the inside of heels leaving the 300m. Shifted out and away from heels near the 250m to obtain clear running. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SECRET SPY – After beginning only fairly from a wide barrier settled further back than may have been expected. Raced wide and without the cover for the majority. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Jockey N. Tomizawa reported that, in his opinion, that the gelding may not have appreciated the softer track conditions.

JAMAICAN MECRAZY – Approaching the 900m steadied when commencing to race keenly after improving onto heels. Continued to race keenly until a point near the 700m. Jockey L. Tarrant was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that approaching the 600m, he did direct his mount out under riding and bumped with ULUWATU, forcing that runner wider off its rightful line of running, consequently causing it to lose its position, and in doing so, ASGOODASYOUGET which was trailing ULUWATU, was also hampered as a result. Jockey Tarrants license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 10days to commence 3 December, up to and including 12 December 2024. In assess the matter Stewards noted the degree of carelessness and severity of interference as well as his good record in relation to the rule. Jockey Tarrant was advised of his right to an appeal.
ARIAT – Stewards permitted App D. Bennett to ride the mare at his minimum riding weight of 55kg, 0.5kg over its allocated weight. Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
JOY MCCOY (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Laid out for some distance passing the 400m. Had difficulty obtaining clear running for some distance approaching the 100m before shifting out before being obliged to shift back in when disappointed for a run. When questioned in relation to her tactics adopted in the home straight, App C. Baker concurred she had erred in not pressuring her mount to improve into a run between GOOD’N’LUCKY and ROSTOPCHIN approaching the 200m, however she was being mindful of the racing manners of ROSTOPCHIN which was laying in. App Baker stated that her intention had been to allow that runner to shift into her line of running and then move to take up a position to the outside of its heels in clear running, however when ROSTOPCHIN had laid in quite slowly and then shifted back out after shifting her mount to the outside of its heels, she had been obliged to steady and shift back in when disappointed for that run. App Baker further added that, in hindsight, she would have been better positioned to had endeavoured to improve into the run between GOON’N’LUCKY and ROSTOPCHIN when that run had presented near the 200m and had erred in her assessment of the situation which presented. Stewards noted the explanation, however reminded App Baker of her obligations and to not to leave her riding open to question.
ROSTOPCHIN – Crowded on jumping before being bumped. Raced keenly near the 800m. Held-up for clear running from the 400m until being shifted wider near the 250m and being disappointed for a run, having to be shifted back in near the 200m.

Murphy was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to show far greater care in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
ASGOODASYOUGETT – Began awkwardly before being bumped soon after. Raced wide and without cover for the majority. Hampered near the 600m when ULUWATU was forced wider when directed outwards into its line of running. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

Jockey Savva was further reminded of her obligations under AR131(d) in relation to slackening the pace of races. Shifted out marginally near the 900m and bumped.
Race 3: VALE PAT DUFF BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1000m)
NEVER SAY NAY – Bumped on jumping. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on the gelding, App Z. Sprie advised after being mindful of runners shifting ground in the early part of the home straight, he was not comfortable to place his mount under pressure. He further added near the 100m that he was initially looking to obtain clear running to the outside of BIG SKY COUNTRY, however when that runner commenced to shift out, he did not direct his mount out to obtain that run. App Sprie concurred that when BIG SKY COUNTRY shifted out, this availed sufficient room to improve to the inside of that runner and agreed that he had erred in not placing his mount under pressure to obtain that run and had further erred by still looking to the outside in search of clear running which resulted in his being held up over the concluding stages. App Sprie also concurred with Stewards when advised he would have been better positioned to take advantage of runs which availed themselves in the early stages of the home straight had he placed his mount under greater pressure between the 600m and 300m and been more prominently placed rounding the home turn. Stewards adjourned the matter to obtain the betting records of the event. App Sprie was further advised that the ride would be referred to the Racing Queensland Apprentice Training Team for review.
