GENERAL

Following the fulfilment of her engagements App L O’Donnell was attended to by QAS officers and transported to Toowoomba Hospital for further treatment. Following the results of those examinations App O’Donnell was stood down for a period of 12days under the QRIC concussion protocol and advised she would require a medical clearance and satisfactory cognitive assessment prior to riding again.

Race 1: LAWRENCE & HANSON MAIDEN HANDICAP         1000m

TURN UP THE MUSIC- Bumped on jumping, shifted in and bumped again. Laid in under pressure down the running.

WANT TO BE PROUD- Slow into stride and bumped soon after the start.

MYSTERY POWER- As App J Molloy had been mistakenly declared, Stewards permitted App O Kendall to be substituted as rider of the gelding. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide from the 800m.

FOR THE BRAVE- Laid in under pressure down the running, shifting in and away form another runner near the 150m crowding runners to the inside before shifting in again under pressure approaching the 100m and inconveniencing ADDICTIVE PIRANAH. Jockey L Tilley was severely reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. In considering the matter Stewards noted that some efforts were being made by Jockey Tilley to prevent his mount from shifting in.

SO YES IT IS- Trainer B Healey was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping.

UPSTART LOVER- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Harmlessly dislodged App D Bennett on route to the barrier before being quickly recaptured. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barrier and was passed fit to start. Crowded and bumped near the 150m.

BOONAH FLASHER- Fractious in the barrier prior to the start being effected, rearing over and dislodging App L O’Donnell, and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 4:26pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the mare were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 4:26pm:

2cents in the dollar for the win
1cent in the dollar for the place on the winner
3cents in the dollar for 2nd place
2cents in the dollar for 3rd place

Trainer J Crompton was advised that the mare would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

GOOD PHILLY- Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer V Heading was advised the filly would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

ADDICTIVE PIRANHA- When App S Willis was unavailable due to personal reasons, Stewards permitted Jockey S Rutledge to be substituted as rider of the filly when no other apprentice rider was available. Held up for clear running from a point approaching the 300m before shifting to the inside of runners at the 250m. Crowded near the 150m and bumped, before being inconvenienced approaching the 100m.

LUCKY EXCHANGE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.

CAPITAN DE SEDA- Began awkwardly. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

CALM SEEKER (NZ)- Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the pace se in the early and middle stages, App O Kendal advised her instructions had been to be positive on the gelding and to obtain cover if possible, however when attempting to restrain in the early stages he mount had over-raced and continued to do so when WOWIT’S WILLYWONKA had improved to its outside. As such, App Kendal had permitted her mount to settle into its own pace through the middle stages, though with the benefit of hindsight, would have been better positioned to have attempted to slacken the pace between the 1000m-700m in order to improve her mounts chances of a stronger finishing effort. App Kendal added further that, in her opinion, the spacing of her mounts runs had resulted in its being too fresh for todays step up in distance. Trainer M Kropp concurred with App Kendals view regarding the spacing of the geldings runs adding that, in his opinion, over-racing in the early stages when being challenged for the lead had proved detrimental to the geldings finishing efforts.

WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly when being restrained in the early stages.

ADELAD- Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide rounding the home turn. Jockey L Dempsey advised that, whilst his mount felt sound, it never travelled comfortably during the event.

SHADYVALE STORM- Raced wide and keenly until the 1200m when restrained and able to obtain cover nearer the inside running rail. Tired from the 700m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MARTEDI- Bumped on jumping. Raced keenly in the early stages, improving onto heels near the 1400m. Continued to race keenly in the back straight. Raced wide from the 800m.

TRAUTMAN- Laid out during the early stages of the home straight.

DEL CAMPO- Inconvenienced by a tiring runner approaching the 400m. Laid in during the early stages of the home straight and became momentarily awkwardly placed on heels.

Following the running of this event, the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3

LIMITED REALITY- Bumped on jumping. Shifted in when not fully clear of HEROIC CHIEF near the 900m, causing that runner to be steadied from heels. Jockey J Baker was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.

HUSSON'S REVENGE- Lost a near-side hind plate in running.

DUSTYIAM- Raced wide for the majority.

Race 4: ELEGANT BLINDS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP         1200m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the patrol footage of the home straight to ascertain whether grounds for an objection existed on behalf of 2nd placegetter TOUCH OF GRACIE against 1st placegetter SHOUTS ALL DAY. After viewing footage Stewards were satisfied any interference that occurred had no tangible effect on the placings and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

DEVIL'S RITE- Bumped on jumping.

NEW YORK GAL- Began awkwardly. Trainer M Currie advised that, in his opinion, the mare races better when able to be ridden more positively. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

ARCHER'S GAME- Held up for clear running for a short distance near the 200m having to be shifted in. Trainer M Currie advised that, in his opinion the mare is better positioned when able to be ridden slightly more positively than in todays event.

KOZANI- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure down the running.

CONEY ISLAND BABY- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination reveal minor lacerations to both hind fetlock consistent with hitting itself in running.

READY AND LUCKY- Raced keenly in the early stages and laid out near the 1300m.

ZOUWALER- Raced wide from the 800m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of tying up.

JORUM- Bumped leaving the 800m. Laid in under pressure down the running.

SUNBEAM LEGEND- Held up for clear running from the 500m for a short distance. Trainer P Wallace advised that the mares preparation leading into todays event had been interrupted due to weather and as a result fitness may have been lacking, exacerbated by the step up in distance as a result. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a mildly slow post-race recovery.

MOTION SENSOR- Improved onto heels leaving the 800m, having to be steadied and shifted out and bumped as a result.

Immediately prior to the running of this event, as the field was arriving at the barrier, it was identified that the course proper lighting from the 1200m back to the winning post was not working. Due to the proximity of the scheduled starting time of the event and given that sufficient ambient lighting was still available, the decision was made to run the event as scheduled. Following the running of this event the aforementioned lighting was restored before soon after failing again. This necessitated further delays whilst on-course electricians identified and rectified the power issue and conducted further testing to ensure the reliability of the course proper lighting for the remaining events. Amended start times for Races 6 & 7 were as follows:

Race 6: 8:03pm
Race 7: 8:33pm

Toowoomba Turf Club undertook to conduct further remedial efforts following the incident prior to next racing and a report was prepared for Racing Queensland detailing the issues.

Race 6: FINNEY'S PROTECTIVE COATINGS CLASS 1 HANDICAP      870m

JEROBI- Bumped, shifted out and bumped again on jumping.

SO BRIGHT- Raced wide for the majority. Trainer M Nolan advised that the geldings preparation had been interrupted as a result of weather and as a result fitness may have been lacking, exacerbated by the geldings being first up after a spell. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mildly slow recovery.

ALERTADO- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer T Pascoe for the late declaration of rider on the gelding.

HER EXPENSE- Shifted in and bumped on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.

TOUTE SWEET- Disappointed for a run between HER EXPENSE and KENTUCKY ROSE near the 200m, having to be steadied and shifted in .

WITNESS DIS- Raced keenly in the early stages. Finished tailed off. Trainer G Cornish advised that, with the addition of blinkers and the step up in distance, which may have contributed to the geldings over-racing, may have been to its detriment. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery.

CONCADOR- Began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped.

APFEL (NZ)- Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in near the 800m. Laid out near the 200m.

Stewards noted that this had no tangible effect on the placings, however given the narrow margin between 3rd and 4th place, Jockey Wishart’s lack of vigour over the final stride was blameworthy.
