GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonights meeting:
 
Race 1: Jockey S Sheargold +1kg
              App D Bennett +1kg (At MRW of 55kg)
Race 3: Jockey S Sheargold +1kg
Race 5: Jockey W O”Connell +1kg
Race 7: Jockey W O’Connell +1kg

Race 1: THANK YOU LIFE & LONG MEMBERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1300m

FARWEST- Steadied soon after the start to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail. Held up for clear running from a point leaving the 400m before being obliged to shift wider passing the 300m. Bumped approaching the 50m.
 
SWITCHBLADE- Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted in when not fully clear approaching the 600m when not fully clear of MYSTERY POWER. Jockey N Fazackerley was severely reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
MYSTERY POWER- Raced keenly after being crossed near the 1200m and was shifted to the outside of heels soon after. Raced keenly down the backs straight. Became awkwardly placed on heels approaching the 600m and was obliged to steady. Laid out under pressure down the running, bumping approaching the 200m.
 
LIKE SMOKE- Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
RUBAAHY- Bumped on jumping. Held up for clear running from the 400m until a point approaching the 300m. Bumped approaching the 200m.
 
HONGKONG HARMONY (USA)- App G Semmens was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(6)(b) in that she did use her whip above shoulder height.
BOOGA RAY- Steadied in the early stages after beginning only fairly from the wide barrier in an effort to obtain cover nearer to the inside running rail.
 
SPLIT THE CASH- Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the mare to be lame in the right-foreleg. Trainer G Thwaite was advised the mare would require a veterinary certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BASIL'S GIFT- Bumped on jumping and was slow into stride. Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Laid in marginally leaving the 400m.
 
DAINTREE DREAMING- Declared a late scratching at 08:40am when no rider was available.
 
JOY MCCOY (NZ)- Stewards permitted App D Bennett to ride the gelding at 1kg over the allocated weight at his minimum riding weight (MRW) of 55kg when no other rider was available. Began awkwardly. Bumped approaching the 50m.
 
TOTSPUR- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered for the late scratching of the gelding at 08:25am.
 

Race 2: BLACK TRUCK & AG BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1100m

BUCKALTIUS- Shifted out and bumped on jumping.
 
VAST KAMA- Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
JENCHICK BOOM- Performed disappointingly. Jockey J Molloy advised that his mount felt awkward in its action and never travelled throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting signs of cardiac arrythmia. As such Trainer T Gollan was advised that the mare would be required to undergo and ECG prior to undergoing a cardiac auscultation subsequent to satisfactorily galloping 1000m.
 
GAZZA'S DIAMOND- Bumped on jumping. Laid in near the 900m. Momentarily held up approaching the 400m. Shifted to the outside of heels on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
KICKATINALONG- Raced wide for the majority.
 
PAMPUNI- Crowded on jumping before becoming awkwardly placed on heels and having to be steadied.
 
FIRST PEOPLES- Began awkwardly and bumped.
 
OUR DRUMMER- Began awkwardly before being tightened and having to be steadied. Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 3: SHERRIN RENTALS CLASS 3 HANDICAP    1625m

NORTH CHANNEL- Obliged to steady from heels near the 800m.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND- Raced keenly near the 1400m. Held up from the 500m until a point passing the 400m before being shifted wider and bumped near the 400m.
 
HAYSIRI- Stood flat footed as the start was effect and lost ground. Trainer C Geran was advised the gelding would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Raced keenly approaching the 1200m.  Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
NAUGHTY WORDS- Performed disappointingly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Currie advised he was disappointed with the performance and that the mare may not have appreciated the turn around from a hard run in its most recent outing. Mr Currie added that the intention would be to have the mare examined by the stable veterinarian on Monday 24 February and undertook to advise should anything become apparent.
 
BY BY BEAN- Raced keenly near the 1400m. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance Trainer J Hanna advised that, in his opinion, the geldings most recent start when considering the beaten margin was not as poor as may seem and that the recent addition of the crossover noseband and the tongue clip were also telling factors.
 
SAINT MARTIN- Raced keenly in the early stages of the back straight. Bumped near the 400m.
 
GULF OF SIDRA- Bumped near the 400m.
 
LUNA DIVA- Began awkwardly. Raced keenly near the 1400m. Shifted in near the 800m obliging NORTH CHANEL to be steadied. Jockey G Goomany was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident.
 
LEGISLATE – Began awkwardly. Laid in and bumped near the 400m. Lost an off-hind plate in running.
 

Race 4: SHEPPARD EARTHMOVING BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP    1890m

MEDICAL AUTOCRAT- Shifted in near the 1700m when not fully clear of DEL CAMPO. App D McGillivray was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident.
 
SPOKE TO RAJIV (NZ)- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Connections advised it would be the intention to have the gelding ridden to settle in a more forward position should circumstances permit. Was ridden accordingly. Raced keenly from the 1600m-1300m. Tired abruptly from the 700m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a slow post-race recovery. Trainer K Jones advised on 23 February that the gelding had pulled up well following the event and that connections would now consider SPOKR TO RAJIV’s immediate racing future. Nonetheless, Mr Jones was advised that the gelding would be required to trial further to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
DECARBONISE- Tired from the 600m and finished tailed off. Jockey J Stanley advised his mount had travelled fairly until pressured near the 600m and commenced to tire but felt ok it its action. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal a slow post-race recovery. Trainer J Gilmore advised on 23 February that the gelding had pulled up well noting a laceration to a hind fetlock consistent with hitting itself in running and bruising to an eye consistent with receiving kickback in running. Mr Gilmore further advised it would be the intention to have the stable veterinarian examine DECARBONISE in the coming days. As such, Stewards advised Mr Gilmore that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BILPA MOREA (NZ)- Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
MIKKI EIGHT- Slow into stride.
 
DEL CAMPO- Obliged to steady from heels near the 1700m.
 
LUPINE (NZ)- Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out rounding the home turn.
 
MAKE HASTE- Slow into stride. Laid in rounding the home turn and under pressure down the running.
 

Race 5: CARPET ONE TOOWOOMBA QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP    1100m

ANXO- Began awkwardly and shifted in. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
REVALOT- Laid in marginally near the 800m and crowded ELEANOR NANCY. Laid in and away from another runner rounding the home turn.
 
SOUL BROTHER- Slow into stride before becoming awkwardly placed on heels and having to be steadied. Shifted in near the 350m and crowded DAY TO REMEMBER. App K Lenton was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident.
 
TOO MANY THOUGHTS- Began awkwardly and shifted out. Laid in under pressure down the running, shifting in near the 200m despite the efforts of its rider.
 
DAY TO REMEMBER- Shifted in near the 900m and crowded LINWAR in onto the running of ELEANOR NANCY. Jockey G cartwright was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result of this incident. Crowded near the 350m.
 
LINWAR- Crowded and taken in near the 900m.
 
CEEKAY'S CHOICE- Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
GOOD GIRL POLLY- laid out rounding the home turn. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BLAME THE BUBBLES- Became awkwardly placed on heels before being crowded and having to be steadied soon after jumping.
 
UPSTART LOVER- Momentarily crowded leaving the 200m.
 
ELEANOR NANCY- Crowded and steadied near the 900m. Again, momentarily crowded near the 800m.
 
SKYPORT LANE Bumped leaving the 900m. Momentarily steadied from heels on entering the home straight before being shifted in. Raced wide for the majority.
 

Race 6: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP    1000m

SMILING ZAC (NZ)- Began awkwardly. Laid out whilst over-racing near the 700m. Laid in under pressure down the running.
 
DISCERNING- Began very awkwardly, shifting in abruptly on jumping losing significant ground and causing App C Vitler to become unbalanced. Trainer M Currie was advised that the mare would be required to trial satisfactorily prior to again being permitted to start in a race.
 
BIRAGUE- Raced ungenerously in the early stages when being steadied in an effort to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.
 

Race 7: HAPPY BIRTHDAY LISA MAIDEN HANDICAP         1890m

JUSTICE SERVED- Raced wide in the early stages before being taken wider near the 1200m and was permitted to stride forward from that point, settling in a 3-wide forward position near the 800m. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance Trainer R Dart advised that, in his opinion, the step down in class relative to the geldings most recent starts and the step up to a more suitable distance were telling factors.
 
BOLERO- Slow into stride. Improved onto heels near the 500m and was held up for clear running for some distance thereafter.
 
BONZABELTER- Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure passing the 100m having to be corrected.
 
NEO VICI- began very awkwardly and contacted the barrier gate on jumping. Crowded and shifted in near the 1300m before having to be steadied from heels.
 
THUNDER SHANGHAI- Laid out near the 400m. Jockey S Sheargold advised that his mount may have had its tongue over the bit in running.
 
FREYA'S MAGIC- Bumped and crowded on jumping. Over-raced near the 1600m. Crowded and obliged to steady near the 1300m before laying out on entering the back straight. Raced keenly in the back straight.
 
GARTAN- Slow into stride.
 
POW NOW- Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, taken wider near the 1200m.
 
RUMBLING BOY- Began awkwardly and bumped. Shifted in near the 1300m crowding runners to the inside. Jockey W O’Connell was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. Raced keenly in the back straight.
