SATURDAY 15 MARCH 2025

WEATHER – Fine        TRACK RATING – Good 4RAIL – True

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – C Warren
Stewards – J Childs & C Taylor

GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following over-weights at tonights meeting:

Race 5- Jockey M Hellyer +1kg

Race 1: PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1200m

DATA LEAK- Bumped at the 1050m. Laid in under pressure down the running.

ORIENTE- Trainer J Dunn was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Became fractious on exiting the mounting yard and harmlessly dislodged Jockey R Jamieson, before being recaptured soon after. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Trainer J Dunn was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings pre-race manners as a result. Bumped on entering the home straight and became unbalanced.

BEEN A SECRET- Laid in leaving the 900m when racing keenly. Bumped on entering the home straight, becoming momentarily unbalanced, shifting in and bumping a further runner.

CUTTING EDGE- Obliged to steady momentarily and shifted in near the 900m.

ROCKY RICH- Shifted in near the 900m when not fully clear of CUTTING EDGE, causing that runner to be momentarily steadied and shifted in momentarily hampering TOUTE SWEET. Jockey C Whiteley was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding as a result of this incident. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey C Whiteley advised that the effort required by his mount to obtain a forward position in the early stages was likely a telling factor in the geldings poor finishing efforts.

BROOKLYN DAISY- Trainer M Currie was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR65 for failing to produce the Thoroughbred Identification Card as directed. Raced ungenerously leaving the 900m. Taken wider and obliged to ease to avoid heels on entering the home straight before being shifted in. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow recovery.

GAZZA'S DIAMOND- Crowded soon after the start. Raced keenly approaching the 1000m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover nearer the inside running rail.

TOUTE SWEET- Bumped on jumping. Obliged to steady from heels near the 900m. Held up rounding the home turn. App C Callow was found guilty of a charge for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) in that on entering the home straight she did direct her mount out around heels to improve and in doing so did shift into the running of BROOKLYN DAISY when insufficiently clear obliging that runner to be eased to avoid heels, before shifting in and losing its rightful running. Stewards did note that TOUTE SWEET may have shifted out further than App Callow had intended however, were of the view that at the time of the incident, any outward shift from TOUTE SWEET was going to place that runner into the line of BROOKLYN DAISY and cause interference to that runner. App Callows license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 7 days to commence 16 March up to and including 22 March 2025. App Callow was advised of her right to an appeal.

INSPIRED DREAM- Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 1050m. Laid in and bumped on entering the home straight. Laid in under pressure down the running. When asked to comment on the seemingly improved performance Jockey N Tomizawa when last engaged on the mare at Ipswich (26 January 2025) INSPIRED DREAM had been slow away which had detrimentally effected the mares chances and that in its most recent outing the mare had led when there had been a notable absence of pace in the event. Jockey Tomizawa then added further that, in his opinion, the mare is best suited when able to race just off the leaders with cover as in todays event. Trainer T Sears concurred with Jockey Tomizawa’s assessment adding the mare had been pleasing in its work and a forward showing had ben expected.

DUCHESS BREE- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start.

FOREBEARS- Raced wide for the majority.

LONESOME SOUL- Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure down the running.

MISHANI WITNESS- Began awkwardly and bumped.

TRADING ROOM- Began awkwardly. Laid in leaving the 1100m. Raced keenly in the middle stages. App D Bennett advised that his mount had travelled well throughout the event but on entering the home straight was lackluster in response to his urgings. MAKING NEWS- Bumped on jumping.

FAST LADY- Crowded and momentarily steadied near the 350m.

RYLOV- Raced keenly down the back straight.

DON'T DISS AROUND- Slow to begin. Raced wide from the 650m. Bumped near the 550m. Laid in near the 350m crowding SADDLE BOY and FAST LADY. TOUCH OF GRACIE- Raced wide until being pressed forward from the 900m and settling into a leading position on the inside running rail leaving the 800m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed a slow post-race recovery. Jockey N Tomizawa advised that, in his opinion, the mare is best suited when able to obtain cover just off the leaders and the work required in the early and middle stages was a telling factor. Trainer C Geran advised on 26 March that the mare had pulled up well and concurred with Jockey Tomizawa’s assessment.

SADDLE BOY- Laid in and was crowded near the 350m. Laid in under pressure down the running. Raced wide for the majority.

RUBAAHY- Dwelt in the barrier. Momentarily held up on heels on entering the home straight.

Race 4: GREENRIDGE CONNECT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1050m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view footage of the concluding stages to ascertain whether grounds for an objection were present on behalf of WHO SHOT SUZY against 1st placegetter STAROSHKA. After viewing the footage Stewards determined that given the beaten margin and the manner in which both runners were finishing the race off prior to the incident, that the interference had no tangible effect on the placings and correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

WHO SHOT SUZY- Bumped on jumping. Bumped heavily near the 30m.

STAROSHKA- Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages and bumped heavily with WHO SHOT SUZY. App C Vitler was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant to AR131(a) as a result and advised to exercise far greater effort much soon to correct his mounts in similar circumstances. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical symptoms of the thumps and a slow recovery.

THIEF BY NIGHT- Bumped on jumping. Bumped near the 250m.

DECISIVE LASS- raced keenly near the 900m when being restrained in an effort to obtain cover nearer to the inside running rail. Laid in and bumped near the 250m.

Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which fail to reveal any significant abnormalities. When asked to comment on the performance Jockey L Tilley advised that his mount may not have appreciated the short turn around since its last start proving lackluster in its response to his urgings on entering the home straight. Trainer B Davis advised on 15 March 2025 that the gelding had pulled up well and would now likely be sent for a short spell.

MAKE HASTE- Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer the field for the majority before finishing tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer M Nolan advised connections would now consider the mares immediate racing future. was advised the mare would nonetheless be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

Race 6: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP    1050m

Immediately after the commencement of the event the course proper lighting failed resulting in only sporadic lighting of the course proper with numerous notably unlight areas. Following the runners returning to the mounting yard Stewards conferred with Starter Mr C Higgins, took evidence form the riders involved and reviewed the available race patrol footage. After considering the matter in its entirety, Stewards determined that the failing of the course proper lighting during the running of the event had a tangible effect on how the race was run and consequently may have had an effect on the final result. As such, acting under the provisions of AR205, the race was declared void and all monies invested on the event were ordered to be refunded.

After consultation with club officials and the on-site electrician it was identified that any fix to the electrical issue was likely to be lengthy and as such, in the interest of safety, the remainder of the meeting was abandoned. Toowoomba Turf Club undertook to compile a report detailing the issue and any remedial works. QRIC intend to confer with Racing Queensland regarding the matter prior to any race meeting being conducted at Toowoomba Turf Club which is reliant on artificial lighting.

Race 7: DARLING DOWNS HAULAGE MAIDEN HANDICAP         1050m
