As W. Clasohm was indisposed, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Dumuzi 2nd – Maid Of Sevens 3rd – Sam’s Crossing 4th – Valdisano
Track temperature: 42 degrees celsius
As B. Hull experienced transport difficulties, apprentice J. Letherby was substituted as the rider of VALDISANO when no suitable senior rider was available.
PROJECTS (P. Wolfgram) began awkwardly and shifted out losing ground.
STATUS KING (B. Cornell), ROSALITA (A. Best) and LUCKY LANDING (C. Eaton) were slow to begin.
Near the 900m DUMUZI (T. Fujinuma), whilst being restrained, got its head in the air and hung out for a short distance. VALDISANO (J. Letherby), which was racing to the outside, had to be steadied from the heels DUMUZI.
Leaving the 800m ROSALITA was forced to race in restricted room to the inside of MAID OF SEVENS (R. Goltz) for a short distance.
PROJECTS raced fiercely in the middle stages.
B. Cornell, the rider of STATUS KING, was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
Race 2: 7 NEWS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1200M
1st – Street Stall 2nd – Dubbus 3rd – Dulacca Jet 4th – Dancefloor Prodigy
Track temperature: 36 degrees celsius
Apprentice B. Richardson, the rider of BALBOA STAR, was fined $100 under AR. 175(k) for negligence in that she failed to weigh out with the required gear.
HIDDEN TREASURE (A. Best) and MOTHER RUSSIA (N. Yamada) were slow to begin.
Near the 1000m BALBOA STAR (B. Richardson) was steadied from the heels of LEAPING LEIGH (L. Roberts), which shifted in. L. Roberts was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground.
Leaving the 1000m LEAPING LEIGH hung in on to the hind quarters of HIDDEN TREASURE.
Approaching the 900m MISS TENNESSEE (T. Fujinuma) was taken in by DANCEFLOOR PRODIGY (G. Geran).
Near the 900m LEAPING LEIGH shifted out taking BALBOA STAR out on to the heels of DUBBUS (B. Ohlbrecht), which shifted in slighlty, resulting in BALBOA STAR being eased.
Approaching the 800m both DULACCA JET (R. Goltz) and HIDDEN TREASURE got their heads up whilst being steadied.
BALBOA STAR raced wide from the 800m.
MISS TENNESSEE shifted out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages of the event.
Stewards questioned jockey A. Best and trainer M. Webb in relation to the performance of HIDDEN TREASURE, which performed below market expectations. Jockey Best stated that the filly travelled well throughout the run, however when asked to improve near the 400m failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion proved disappointing. Trainer M. Webb advised that the horse had worked well in preparation for today’s event, however the filly raced closer in the field today than he anticipated, which he attributed to it being fresh first up from a spell. Mr Webb advised that in his opinion HIDDEN TREASURE would take benefit out of today’s race and was not entirely disappointed with the performance.
Race 3: TRACKSIDE PHOTOGRAPHY MAIDEN PLATE – 1850M
1st – Sheza Flashlady 2nd – Back To Abilene 3rd – Greys A Rockin 4th – No Hurry
Track temperature: 33 degrees celsius.
The start of this race was delayed to allow the telecast of an interstate harness race.
CELTIC (J. Warrington) jumped away very awkwardly, losing ground.
TUSHUK (T. Fujinuma) lost ground when tightened for room on jumping away between GREYS A ROCKIN (N. Tomizawa) and NO HURRY (A. Best), which shifted in.
BACK TO ABILENE (M. O'Brien) was slow to begin.
Apprentice B. Richardson, the rider of SHEZA FLASHLADY, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that shortly after passing the winning post on the first occasion she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of BROKACANON (P. Wolfgram), resulting in BROKACANON being tightened for room and having to be checked. B. Richardson’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, to commence at midnight on Saturday, 29 January, and expire at midnight on Wednesday, 9 February 2011.
BACK TO ABILENE raced three wide throughout.
Leaving the 800m CELTIC clipped the heels of RUTH THE BOSS (D. McWhinney) and blundered.
Approaching the 400m FLYING DYNAMITE was disappointed for a run between BACK TO ABILENE and NO HURRY, which shifted out, resulting in FLYING DYNAMITE having to alter course to the inside to obtain clear running.
GREYS A ROCKIN shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
A post-race veterinary examination of MISS COOLMORE (C. Eaton) revealed a suspected cardiac abnormality. Trainer L. Maudsley was advised that he must produce a veterinary clearance for MISS COOLMORE prior to its next start.
Race 4: JJ RICHARDS CLASS 1 PLATE – 1850M
1st – Merchart Girl 2nd – Smarty Smart 3rd – Mayalbe 4th – Golden Gleams
Track temperature: 23 degrees celsius.
GOLDEN GLEAMS (T. Fujinuma) blundered on jumping away.
CURSE OF ADAM (A. Best) raced wide in the early and middle stages, and then raced very ungenerously with its head in the air.
MERCHANT GIRL (J. Kehoe) shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages.
Stewards questioned jockey P. Wolfgram and trainer R. Nicholson in relation to the disappointing performance of AREA FIFTYONE. Jockey P. Wolfgram stated that the gelding in his opinion resented the kickback off the track today and at no stage travelled comfortably and as such proved disappointing. Mr Nicholson advised that the gelding had worked well following its win in Toowoomba on 8.1.11 and could offer no tangible explanation for the disappointing performance of AREA FIFTYONE. Mr Nicholson undertook to advise stewards if anything comes to light in the days following today’s event that may have contributed to today’s poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination of AREA FIFTYONE (P. Wolfgram) revealed no abnormalities.
Stewards questioned jockey R. Goltz in relation to the disappointing performance of IN LIGHTS. Jockey Goltz stated that in his opinion the mare failed to handle the cushion track and never travelled comfortably at any stage and as such proved disappointing in his opinion. A post-race veterinary examination of IN LIGHTS revealed no abnormalities.
Race 5: XXXX BITTER QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 1500M
1st – Kesthin 2nd – Blitzed 3rd – Dragon Style 4th – Bickie Pedlar
Track temperature: 23 degrees celsius.
The start of this race was delayed to allow the telecast of an interstate event.
BLITZED (A. Best) and TURTLE BELLE (J. Warrington) were slow to begin.
ASIDE overraced in the early and middle stages.
TAMACA ROSA (J. Kehoe) and ASIDE (K. Ashton) raced wide for the majority of the event.
Stewards will interview trainer P. Sexton in relation to the tactics adopted on KESTHIN (B. Richardson) at a later date.
P. Wolfgram, the rider of DRAGON STYLE, was fined $200 under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using his whip in a forehand manner in excess of the 5 permitted times, in consecutive strides, prior to the 100m.
Race 6: RACING FRATERNITY FLOOD FUNDRAISER C,G&E MAIDEN H’CAP – 1300M
1st – Zing And Zip 2nd – Happy Hooligan 3rd – Cappin Jack 4th – Alandy Lad
Track temperature: 20 degrees celsius.
Correct weight was delayed to enable stewards to determine whether IZZI BRAVE was afforded a fair start. After viewing the patrol films, stewards ruled that IZZI BRAVE was afforded the opportunity to jump with the remainder of the field and correct weight was declared.
IZZI BRAVE (J. Letherby), which stood flat-footed as the gates opened, losing considerable ground, shifted out abruptly near the 1200m. Trainer J. Hanna was advised that IZZI BRAVE must barrier trial prior to its next start.
HAPPY HOOLIGAN (B. Richardson) raced wide for the majority of the event.
CAPPIN JACK (S. Bogenhuber) raced fiercely in the early stages.
Race 7: THANK YOU STONESTREETS COACHES F&M MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M
1st – Sahara Shamal 2nd – Bemuse 3rd – Tycoon Treasure 4th – Hidden Silver
Track temperature: 20 degrees celsius.
The start of this race was delayed to allow the telecast of an interstate event.
Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer R. Lipp for the late declaration of G. Geran as the rider of BACK IN DRAC.
BACK IN DRAC (G. Geran), which was slow to begin, was further hampered at the start by BEMUSE (A. Best), which shifted out.
HIDDEN SILVER (C. Eaton) overraced in the early stages of the event and raced wide throughout.
Approaching the 500m BACK IN DRAC and GANDY MAY (P. Wolfgram), which was tiring, bumped, resulting in GANDY MAY becoming unbalanced.
Stewards will question trainer P. Sexton at a later date in relation to the performance of MY CAPER (N. Tomizawa), which compounded over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination of MY CAPER revealed the mare to have a slower than average recovery rate.
A. Best, the rider of BEMUSE, was reprimanded under AR. 137A(5)(a)(ii) for using the whip on more than 5 occasions in a forehand manner prior to the 100m.
