N. Tomizawa, rider of LIKE A GEE SIX, was reprimanded for shifting out near the 900m, resulting in HALO'D BE THY NAME (S. Bogenhuber) being bumped and becoming badly unbalanced.
When questioned, N. Tomizawa explained that LIKE A GEE SIX travelled well throughout the race however when he applied pressure to the horse it failed to stretch out and in the straight he was concerned with the horse's action and therefore did not continue to apply pressure in riding the horse out. N. Tomizawa added that, in his opinion, the horse was stepping short in front and felt sore. Subsequent to the race, trainer B. Currie confirmed that he had LIKE A GEE SIX examined by his veterinary surgeon and it was found to have a small bone chip in the near fore knee. Mr Currie advised that LIKE A GEE SIX has now be sent for a lengthy spell.
N. Tomizawa was fined $100 for failing to seek permission to leave the course.
