SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:
Following on from the inquiry convened on Tuesday, 3 October, into an incident between bookmaker L. Bruggemann and bookmaker's clerk John Handley, Stewards required bookmaker B. Leeson to furnish evidence of applications for Mr Handley to field on his behalf in his absence. Mr Leeson has since tendered to the Stewards copies of emails forwarded to Racing Queensland which were sent inadvertently to an employee who had recently left Racing Queensland. These emails therefore were never sent to the appropriate officials. As Stewards were satisfied that Mr Leeson had endeavoured to provide the appropriate paperwork, no further action was taken.
GENERAL
As apprentice A. Fancourt was injured, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Apprentice L. Tarrant was fined $100 for failing to produce a letter of authority.
Race 1: K & R PLUMBING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1625M
1st – New Ranger 2nd – Mako Shark 3rd – Canadian Hussey 4th – Sosueme
Track temperature: 26 degrees Celsius
Prior to correct weight, apprentice J. Letherby, the rider of 2nd placegetter MAKO SHARK, requested to view the replay to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against NEW RANGER (N. Nishio) being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 200m. After viewing the film apprentice Letherby formally lodged a protest. On the evidence it was established that near the 200m NEW RANGER shifted in and brushed MAKO SHARK, however Stewards were of the view that any inconvenience suffered by MAKO SHARK was inconsequential to the result and did not materially affect its chances and therefore the protest was dismissed.
On jumping, both SOSUEME (N. Evans) and NAKOMA STAR (L. Tarrant) were badly unbalanced when crowded for room between CANADIAN HUSSEY (T. Serjeant) and MAKO SHARK (J. Letherby), both of which shifted ground abruptly.
NEW RANGER was slow to begin.
For a considerable distance in the middle stages CANADIAN HUSSEY hung out.
Near the 900m NAKOMA STAR shifted in and made heavy contact with the running rail.

On leaving the mounting yard DEHERE SHE COMES became very fractious, reared and threw itself down, injuring its rider, Ms T. Serjeant. As a result, DEHERE SHE COMES was declared a late scratching at 6.47 p.m. A considerable delay then ensued whilst apprentice Serjeant was treated for her injuries and to enable another ambulance to arrive on course to transport her to hospital. Because of this significant delay, the horses, which had arrived at the barriers, were returned to the mounting yard. When a replacement ambulance did eventually arrive, the horses were then sent to the start, resulting in Race 4 commencing at approximately 7.15 p.m. As a result of this, the start of Race 5 had to be put back from 7.27 p.m. to 7.42 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on DEHERE SHE COMES be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 6.47 pm.:
1 cent in the dollar for the Win - BELLA LEICA
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner – BELLA LEICA
11 cents in the dollar for 2nd place - BEAUDETTE
3 cents in the dollar for 3rd place – GYPSY JAZZ
In the straight JUST A CRACKER (R. Goltz) hung in very badly and proved difficult to ride.
