Track temperature – 19 degrees Celsius
Stewards accepted trainer D. Murphy’s reason for the late scratching of SAVEEDA at 8.53 am.
TELLINTAIMZ (L. Tarrant) was slow to begin.
Rounding the home turn ESTHER CAROLINE (N. Tomizawa) shifted out and bumped CHASTELAIN (R. Goltz), then in the straight ESTHER CAROLINE was inclined to lay in.
Apprentice R. Ride (OLLIEWOOD) explained that the intention was, from the gate, to try to find cover, albeit the horse was stepping up in distance from its previous start. She said when the gates were released she was unable to find a position with cover and OLLIEWOOD then commenced to race keenly and proved too strong for her and as she was racing wide without cover she elected to allow the mare to stride forward and settle outside the leader near the 1000m.
Race 2: FREIGHTRITE TRANSPORT MAIDEN H'CAP – 1000M
Track temperature – 16 degrees Celsius
Consideration was given to an objection lodged by N. Tomizawa (AALEYAH), placed 2nd, against THE RINGMISTRESS (L. Tarrant) being declared the winner, alleging interference inside the 200m. On the evidence it was established that approaching the 100m THE RINGMISTRESS, which had been hanging out, shifted out and made contact with AALEYAH on two separate occasions. Stewards were of the view, bearing in mind the narrow margin between the two horses at the finish, that had AALEYAH not received the two bumps that it did, it would have finished ahead of THE RINGMISTRESS, and therefore the objection was upheld and correct weight was declared on the revised placings of 8, 6, 11 and 13.
EFFUSION (R. Goltz) was slow to begin.
Near the 600m NAMBAWAN (C. Maund) appeared to shy and despite the efforts of its rider shifted in abruptly, resulting in EFFUSION being checked.
From the 500m THE RINGMISTRESS commenced to hang out.
Race 3: LAND TRANSPORT BM75 H'CAP – 1000M
Track temperature – 15 degrees Celsius
CONAHY (S. Apthorpe), which was standing awkwardly, dipped when the gates were released and then was crowded for room between BAHSA (L. Tarrant), which shifted in, and DESERT LAIR (L. Tilley), which was taken out slightly by BERNADECIO (R. Ride).
ARCTIC COMMAND (S. Bogenhuber) was slow to muster speed.
Shortly after the start SAVAGE (T. Jeffries) was bumped heavily by GEOLOGICAL (N. Nishio), which shifted out.
In the early and middle stages BAHSA raced very keenly and then from the 500m hung out badly.
Near the 600m CONAHY shifted out and bumped GEOLOGICAL. After this GEOLOGICAL then hung in across the heels of CONAHY.
Race 4: WILSONTON MEATS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M
Track temperature – 13 degrees Celsius
VICTORIA STREET (D. McIntosh), which was standing awkwardly, then bounded when the gates were released and lost ground.
Making the turn near the 900m SWEET STUFF (M. O'Brien) was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PARAFIRE (N. Tomizawa) which shifted out slightly. ESTEVEZ (W. O'Connell), which was following, was steadied and shifted out.
For some distance after the 600m STRADIVARI MISS (R. Ride) hung in and made contact with MY BELOVED (L. Tarrant).
Over the final 200m STRADIVARI MISS hung in.
Near the 100m SWEET STUFF, which was weakening, was steadied when crowded for room between SEEK THE GOLD (R. Goltz), which shifted in and away from STRADIVARI MISS, and SNOW CHOICE (S. Drake), which was taken out slightly by PARAFIRE.
Race 5: DR. BILL BEATTIE MEMORIAL CLASS 2 H'CAP – 850M
Track temperature – 13 degrees Celsius
Trainer T. Pascoe was fined $100 for failing to produce the thoroughbred identification card for GREEN WITH ENVY.
MARKED BRIDE (W. O'Connell) was slow to begin and then failed to muster speed.
