Newton Clerk of Scales – Club Representative GENERAL RACE 1: WESTERN DOWNS REGIONAL COUNCIL BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP - 900m I GOT TRIX – Slow into stride. MR BOXVALE – Inconvenienced at the start when the starting gate rebounded. NORDIC QUEEN - Slow to begin. When racing in a rearward position, resented kickback and continues to race ungenerously. ENCORE SALL – Restrained from heels at the 500m when runners in front shifted out. KARAHARAGA – Shifted out and raced wide rounding the home turn. COALBANK CAVIAR – When questioned regarding the performance of the runner, Jockey P. Romeo reported that he felt the track was too hard and the gelding was reluctant to stretch out. JEPTOO – When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer B. Hudson advised that in his opinion the improvement was due to the mare returning to its normal racing pattern. Mr Hudson also advised that the mare was placed in a rearward position last start contrary to instructions and that today’s performance was exactly how the stable wanted. RACE 2: JUANDAH HOTEL MOTEL OPEN HANDICAP - 900m EXTRA SHOT – Contacted the stalls on jumping away. AMBER ALE – Stood flat footed at the start losing considerable ground. GOLFING – Upon returning to scale, Jokey L. McCoy reported that in her opinion the gelding was reluctant to stretch out due to the hard track. CHARGE MISSILE – Raced wide rounding the home turn. Apprentice N. Keal was advised to exercise more care after allowing his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of another runner. RACE 3: WINDMILL VILLAGE WANDOAN CUP BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1200m RHIATENN – When questioned regarding riding tactics, Jockey P. Romeo advised that he was instructed to give the horse plenty of space and therefore raced wide from the 600m. KAVALONG - Upon returning to scale, Jockey W. O’Connell was advised that the horse raced wide throughout and was disadvantaged by the weight of today’s event. RACE 4: COL HICKEY MEMORIAL/DEL JAMES PATRON CLASS B HANDICAP – 1200m BENEVOLANT LAD – Broke through the starting gates, quickly restrained and returned to the start. GOLD SEARCH – Slow to begin SEQUOIA MISS – Slow into stride. Raced wide rounding the home turn. THAT’S HER I THINK – Struck the running rail at the 500m when another runner shifted in sharply. TICKET TO DALAS – Shifted in at the 500m when struck by throwback. RACE 5: ULLINS & MURILLA HARDWARE MITRE 10 QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000m BIANCATAR – Slow to begin. Resented track throwback throughout. NIMIA – Shifted in shortly after the start. A STELLAR CAUSE – Shortly after the start shifted in placing runners to the inside in restricted room. A post-race veterinary report revealed that the horse sustained abrasions to the near hind leg.
