SUPPLEMENTARY
From Taroom 28.12.13 – Race 2
Stewards inquired into the reasons for CONHENRI (W. O’Connell) being checked approaching the finish line. After considering the evidence before them, stewards found that CONHENRI was checked when tightened for room between DAIRY (S. Apthorpe) and STREAM OF LIGHT (A. Taylor) when both runners shifted ground. While acknowledging that both runners shifted ground slightly, stewards on the evidence before them were not fully satisfied that CONHENRI which was improving quickly had fully established a run at that stage and could not fully attribute blame to any one rider. S. Apthorpe and A. Taylor were nonetheless advised to exercise care when shifting ground.
Race 1: Allora Eng. & Welding – Horse Walkers/Allora & District Tyres Benchmark 55 Handicap 800m
When apprentice M. O’Brien failed to arrive in time to fulfil her riding engagement on THE ROBBER, stewards permitted R. Goltz as the replacement rider for that runner. Stewards will interview M. O’Brien at a later date regarding this matter.
BOOT SHAKER (G. Geran) and ELLO ELLO (K. Yoshida) were slow to begin.
DR HOUSE (Q. Krogh) began awkwardly resulting in the rider losing his off side iron before regaining it a short distance later.
Near the 600m BOOT SHAKER commenced to race greenly and shifted out making heavy contact with the hind quarters of SKYTANA (R. Ride) which resulted in both runners becoming unbalanced and BOOT SHAKER losing ground. Approaching the 400m BOOT SHAKER hung out despite the efforts of the rider and had to be severely checked from the heels of STREAM OF LIGHT. Trainer L. Clarke was advised that BOOT SHAKER would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
Race 2: Glenmar Fuels QTIS Maiden Plate 1200m
BODNANT (A. Merritt) and MAGNIFY (S. Bogenhuber) made contact at the start.
PLAYBOY SAGA (S. Bayliss) began awkwardly and lost ground.
NAMBAWAN (C. Spry) was slow to begin.
OWNERS CROWN (G. Geran) hung in when racing greenly in the early stages
Near the 900m MAGNIFY was steadied when tightened for room between BODNANT (A. Merritt) and BROTHER ELVIS (M. Abe) when both runners shifted ground. Both M. Abe and A. Merritt were reprimanded for permitting their mounts to shift ground.
Near the 850m PETALS PRIDE (L. Tilley) was tightened for room between WILD PARTY OVER (K. Yoshida) and MANIC MARITA (D. McIntosh) which shifted in. D. McIntosh was severely reprimanded for failing to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount shifting in.
Leaving the 800m MANIC MARITA which hung out was steadied from the heels of OWNERS CROWN which shifted in.
MAGNIFY and PETALS PRIDE raced wide from the 700m.
Near the 700m LETS THINKABOUT IT was steadied on two occasions when LAAGAWN (W. O’Connell) shifted in.
BODNANT was held up for clear running from the 400m until near the 200m.
MAGNIFY hung out approaching and rounding the home turn forcing PETALS PRIDE wider on the track.
OWNERS CROWN hung out rounding the home turn. On entering the home straight OWNERS CROWN hung in significantly despite the efforts of its rider and made contact with PRINCE OF PEACE (S. Apthorpe). When been corrected OWNERS CROWN became unbalanced and shifted out resulting in BODNANT being steadied away from that runners heels and shifting out abruptly. OWNERS CROWN then continued to hang in in the home straight resulting in the rider being unable to test his mount. Trainer M. Park was advised that OWNERS CROWN would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before racing again.
D. McIntosh (MANIC MARITA) reported his mount was inclined to hang out during the race.
Jockey D. McIntosh was reprimanded for his conduct when returning to scales area.
Race 3: Railway Hotel Allora – Allora Cup Benchmark 70 Handicap 1200m
The start of this race was delayed when ACHOR BOLT (R. Payne) was returned to the enclosure to be re-saddled after the off side stirrup leather came undone.
CAPPIN JACK (W. O’Connell), which reared in the barriers and became cast, got underneath the front of the barriers and galloped a lap of the track, was declared a late scratching at 2.20 pm by order of stewards. Trainer B. Marxsen was advised that CAPPIN JACK must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to start again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CAPPIN JACK be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2.20 pm:
5 cents in the dollar for the Win #2
10 cents in the dollar for place of winner #2
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #6
10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
Near the 900m SLYSERA (A. Fancourt) was steadied from the heels of GAELSTORM (L. Tilley) which shifted out.
GAELSTORM raced wide for the majority of the event.
SLYSERA was momentarily held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
Apprentice B. Newport (KISS ME DEADLY) dropped his whip near the 250m.
When questioned regarding the performance of ANCHOR BOLT, apprentice R. Payne stated that she allowed the gelding to settle where comfortable in accordance with her instructions and that her mount travelled well in behind the speed. She added that she pressured her mount from near the 400m however ANCHOR BOLT failed to respond to her riding. Trainer G. Baker confirmed the instructions and was of the opinion that the 64 kilograms allotted to the horse had a bearing on ANCHOR BOLT’S finishing effort.
Following this event, jockey W. O’Connell advised stewards that he had sustained an injury to his left knee in the barriers and was unfit to fulfil his remaining riding obligations. Riding changes were made as per the Stewards Summary.
Race 4: Railway Hotel Allora Class 1 Handicap 1350m
PALPITATE (R. Goltz), which reared in the barriers and became cast, was declared a late scratching at 2.57 pm on veterinary advice. Trainer K. Waller was advised that PALPITATE must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to start again. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PALPITATE be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2. 57 pm:

BLACK SALT (S. Bogenhuber) which was in the barrier to the outside of PALPITATE was removed from the barriers and underwent a veterinary examination. BLACK SALT was subsequently cleared to race.
BLACK SALT began awkwardly.
STAND’N’STARE (A. Fancourt) jumped in the air at the start.
LUCKS IN (G. Geran) overraced in the early and middle stages.
Near the 1000m LOTS OF MERIT (N. Evans) improved onto the heels of BARJAS (R. Ride) and shifted out forcing DOG TIRED (N. Ogura) wider on the track. DOG TIRED raced wide for the remainder of the event.
LOTS OF MERIT raced wide for the majority of the event.
STAND’N’STARE was held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
When asked to comment on the performance of LOTS OF MERIT, jockey N. Evans stated that he was obliged to race wide throughout and that his mount was under pressure from the 500m. He added that LOTS OF MERIT was up significantly in weight today and this along with racing wide had a bearing on today’s performance.
Stewards questioned apprentice A. Fancourt regarding her riding of STAND’N’STARE from rounding the home turn. A. Fancourt stated that on entering the home straight she was momentarily held up when awkwardly placed on the heels of PUTAPAVONIT. She added that near the 200m she was initially going to take a run to the outside of LUCKS IN, however directed her mount to the inside of that runner when it shifted out, which presented a run to the outside of HANDFUL OF SILVER. She further added that inside the final 100m metres she was unable to fully test her mount when placed close to the heels of HANDFUL OF SILVER which shifted out under pressure. Stewards noted the explanation.
Stewards questioned S. Bogenhuber with regards to the performance of BLACK SALT. She stated that her mount began awkwardly and that she was concerned with her mounts action shortly after the start which resulted in her mount losing ground. She added that BLACK SALT was under pressure throughout the event and failed to respond to her riding. Stewards will interview trainer R. Morris with the regards to the performance. A post-race veterinary examination of BLACK SALT failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: Allora Butchery, Pharmacy & True Value Hardware/ Hon T & Mrs S McVeigh Class 4 Handicap 1500m
TROPHY HEAD (R. Ride) was slow to begin.
Apprentice Q. Krogh (CHROMED) dropped his whip near the 200m.
R. Ride (TROPHY HEAD) stated that after being slow to begin her mount was unable to keep up with the quick tempo of the race and felt that the horse would be better suited when stepped up over further distance.
L. Appo (ITALA PRINCE) was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than five occasions prior to the 100m.
