Race 1: PSP HD ALL THE BEST FOR 2017! MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
 
MIKTEGIC, which broke through under the barrier gates, dislodged the rider and galloped for some distance, was declared a late scratching at 12:49 pm. As a result of this incident, the start of this race was delayed for approximately 5 to 6 minutes. Following the race stewards ordered that all monies invested on MIKTEGIC be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to scratching time:
 
            33 cents in the dollar for the win #3
           30 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
           30 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #1
            23 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #10
 
Trainers J. Symons and S. Laxon were advised that the horse would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate.
 
COALBANK CAVIAR – Began very awkwardly, shifted out and bumped DRAGONFLY MISS. Steadied when placed in restricted room whilst racing keenly shortly after the start. Improved on to heels whilst overracing near the 500m and was checked.
 
PARELEMA – Hung out in the home straight. A. Spinks’ saddle shifted over the concluding stages.
 
DRAGONFLY MISS – Bumped at the start.
 
WITSISTA – Tightened at the start. Steadied to avoid heels near the 400m.
 
Following this event, the starter Mr C. Wallace advised stewards that barrier 6 had sustained damage as a result of MIKTEGIC breaking through and would be unable to be used for the remainder of the meeting.
 
Race 2: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 800M
 
HENAGAN – Bumped at the start. Steadied when placed in restricted room leaving the 600m when runners either side shifted ground. Following the horse’s disappointing performance, trainer G. Richardson advised that the horse’s best form is on synthetic and sand surfaces and as a result he will attempt to avoid starting the horse on firm tracks where possible in future.
 
LIFE’S LIKE THAT – Bumped at the start. Steadied to avoid heels near the 600m. Laid in in the straight.
 
DRAGON STREET – Jumped out at the start and made contact with LIFE’S LIKE THAT.
 
BIZARRE ROCK – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with HENAGAN.
 
CAMBOOYA ROCK – Bled both nostrils. Trainer E. Ferguson was advised that the horse will be ineligible to start for 3 months and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.
 
MAYEZ – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained a significant tendon injury to the nearside foreleg. Trainer B. Hudson was advised that the horse would require a veterinary clearance prior to being permitted to race again.
 
Race 3: STEELE'S BAKERY & CAFE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1500M
 
RED GLAZE – Bumped by STUDLY ROOSTER at the 900m, shifted out across the heels of COLD GOLD, clipped the heels of that runner and blundered. As a result, apprentice J. Oliver lost his iron and was placed at a considerable disadvantage for some distance.
 
Race 4: HYNES NEWSAGENCY/CAREY BROS MEATS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1500M
 
The start of this race was delayed to allow the broadcast of another event.
 
HAY LIFE – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Had to be steadied when placed in restricted room approaching the 600m.
 
HORS LA LOI – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer R. Kelly was advised that the horse will require a further barrier certificate before starting again.
 
Race 5: HECTOR HOCKINGS MEMORIAL CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed for approximately 3 minutes to allow the broadcast of another event.
 
STELLAR KNIGHT – Laid out whilst commencing to tire over the final 100m.
 
LISTANERA – Steadied to avoid heels near the 900m and lost ground and then laid out during the middle stages.
 
QUATTRO FANTASTICO – Raced wide without cover.
 
SPECTACULAR ROCK – Raced ungenerously for some distance approaching the 600m, steadied to avoid heels and lost some ground.
 
Race 6: OLSENS PRODUCE/FREESTONE FEEDLOT MM COUNTRY CUP QUALIFIER OPEN H'CAP – 1200M
 
FIERCELY DEFIANT – Began awkwardly. Laid out during the middle stages.
 
OL’ BROWN EYES – Tightened for room on jumping. Raced three wide for the majority of the event.
 
HELLAROO – Jumped awkwardly. Steadied from heels near the 800m.
 
WITH A PROMISE – On return to scale Beau Appo reported that in his opinion the filly failed to stretch out on the firm surface today and proved disappointing.
 
JUST AS LOYAL – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
SAIPAN – Steadied from heels shortly after the start.
 
HAD ME AT HELLO – Raced three wide without cover.
 
Race 7: BRIAN BUNCH PLUMBING BENCHMARK 65 H'CAP – 1350M
 
WRITTENINTHERAIN – As N. Morton was ill, E. Lung was substituted as rider.
 
MAGAZINE MISS – On return to scale S. Bogenhuber reported that in her opinion the mare failed to stretch out on the firm surface today and proved disappointing.
 
LE MAX – Tightened for room at the start.
 
BIG GREEN PONY – Began awkwardly.
