THERE’S NEMO – Stewards questioned jockey C. Eaton regarding the tactics adopted in the middle stages of the event where it appeared that she may have had opportunity to restrain and take cover. Jockey Eaton stated that the gelding was racing keenly at that point of the event and it would have been difficult to restrain and take cover. Jockey Eaton also added that the gelding races best when allowed to stroll free and not placed in restricted ground. Stewards noted her comments.

TELLOFF – Trainer B. Hudson fined $100 for failing to declare a rider within the prescribed time.  Hampered after the start. Steadied from heels near the 100m. When questioned regarding its performance Jockey L. Tilley explained that after being hampered early, TELLOFF then had a tendency to want to hang out throughout the event and approaching the final turn, he would have preferred to come wider on the track. However, under heavy riding and then applying the whip, the filly then wanted to hang in so he then elected to look for runs to nearer the inside. A warning placed on TELLOFF for hanging.

After taking evidence from the riders involved, and having viewed the patrol videos, it was determined  that MAN OVERBOARD  shifted in marginally approaching the turn, contacting the heels of HAY LIFE, causing MAN OVERBOARD to blunder badly and lose significant ground. In assessing, the incident stewards also noted that HAY LIFE shifted out at the same point, which resulted in the contact.  HAY LIFE then became very short in its action and was retired from the event. A post-race veterinary examination of HAY LIFE failed to find any apparent abnormalities.

ALMAZAN – Apprentice B. Northdurft reported that his mount seemed to be making an abnormal noise in the run to the finish, which prevented him from riding the horse out to the finish. Trainer J.
