GENERAL

After arriving on course Stewards upgraded the track from a Good 4 to a Good 3 at 1.40pm.

Due to a delay resulting from a power failure on course following the running of Race 2, the start times of Races 3, 4 and 5 were amended as follows:

Race 3 – 4.40pm
Race 4 – 5.10pm
Race 5 – 5.43pm

Following a complaint lodged by jockey N. Tomizawa, Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred in the scales area following the running of Race 3 today. After taking evidence from a number of riders, including N. Tomizawa and S. Bogenhuber, jockey Bogenhuber was found guilty of a charge under AR. 175(z) in that she engaged in conduct which vilified N. Tomizawa by directing comments to him in relation to his national or ethnic origin. S. Bogenhuber’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 2 weeks, to commence at midnight on 2 February 2019, and expire at midnight on Saturday 16 February 2019. In addition, S. Bogenhuber was fined $2000 to be wholly suspended for a period of 12 months on the condition they do not breach this or a similar rule in that time.

Race 1: HIRE SOLUTIONS FILLIES AND MARES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of 2nd placegetter, REMEMBER MARY, to view the Stewards' patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter, DYNAMISANTE. After viewing the film, the connections indicated that they did not wish to proceed, and correct weight was declared on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

HAIKU’S WAY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Apprentice S. Sweeney reported that her mount got its tongue over the bit during the race.

REMEMBER MARY – Had a tendency to lay out whilst being restrained rounding the turn near the 900m.

DYNAMISANTE – Raced greenly in the home straight.

INSTANTANEOUS – Made contact with another runner on jumping away.

Race 2: GROSS WHOLESALE MEATS MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

BENZ EXPRESS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced during the early and middle stages. Steadied to avoid heels when commencing to weaken in the early stages of the home straight.

NICCONI BAY – Tightened for room on jumping away and lost ground. Checked to avoid the heels of SWAN CITY near the 1000m when that runner commenced to buck.

MONA’S PRIDE- Checked to avoid the heels of SWAN CITY near the 1000m when that runner commenced to buck. Raced wide throughout.

SLY GRIN- Steadied to avoid heels near the 1000m. Improved onto the heels of a tiring runner near the 500m and was eased by its rider.

C’MOME PADDYREILLY- Forced wider on the track by another runner near 1000m.

Race 3: HUTCHISON QUARRIES QTIS 3YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, S. Bogenhuber, the rider of 4th placegetter SOGNI, lodged an objection against ALL UP TEE KAY (N. Tomizawa) being placed 3rd, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that ALL UP TEE KAY shifted in in the home straight resulting in SOGNI and ACCUMULATED (L. Tilley) being placed in restricted room to its inside, which in turn resulted in SOGNI losing its position. Stewards could not however be satisfied that the interference suffered to SOGNI was sufficient to uphold the protest, bearing in mind the proximity of the incident to the winning post and the 2 length margin between runners at the conclusion of the race. Stewards therefore dismissed the objection, and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. As the patrol footage from Race 3 subsequently became unavailable following the protest hearing due to technical issues, Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a later date in relation to ALL UP TEE KAY (N. Tomizawa) shifting in the home straight.

ALL UP TEE KAY – Trainer B. Currie was fined $200 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr. Currie’s poor record in relation to this rule.

SOGNI- Steadied to avoid heels after being crossed shortly after the start. Held up rounding the home turn.

WEALTH’N’POWER – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey E. Ljung permitted her mount to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 800m.

ACCUMULATED- Bumped on jumping.

OUT FOX’EM- Bumped on jumping. Steadied to avoid heels after being crossed near the 800m.

SURFACE TO SURFACE- Began awkwardly. Hung out and shifted wider on the track near the 800m.

A SONG FOR GRACE- Forced wider on the track near the 800m.

STUKWUN – A post-race veterinary examination of the horse, which tailed off, revealed it to be exhibiting a poor post-race recovery. Stewards will contact Trainer L. White in relation to the gelding’s performance in the coming days.

PRICE ONA GOODTIME – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination of the horse, which tailed off, revealed it to be exhibiting an elevated heart-rate, and to be slightly dehydrated. Stewards will contact Trainer J. Gleeson in relation to the colt’s performance in the coming days.

Race 4: WARWICK HOTEL CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Stewards to view the photo finish print of the dead-heating runners for 2nd place.

KOTA FLYER – Began awkwardly.

MISHANI ROMAN – Slow into stride.

SPIRIT’S PRIDE – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained for some distance passing the 900m.

CHINCHINBILLA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

DELANEY’S DESIRE – Tightened for room on jumping away.

FIELD OF FIRE – Trainer B. Robinson was fined $100 for failing to produce the horse’s Thoroughbred Identification Card. Tightened for room on jumping away.

Race 5: WARWICK VET CLINIC COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1100M

After viewing the Stewards’ patrol footage, the connections of 5th placegetter PAPA JO (L. Tilley), lodged an objection against HEART OF KINGS (N. Tomizawa) being placed 4th, alleging interference in the home straight. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that HEART OF KINGS blundered in the home straight and then shifted in abruptly resulting in PAPA JO being tightened for room and checked, and then losing ground. As Stewards were satisfied that the extent of the interference exceeded the long neck margin which separated both horses at the finish, and bearing in mind the way in which PAPA JO finished off the race, the protest 5th against 4th was upheld and the placings amended accordingly.

HEART OF KINGS – Hung out in the early and middle stages. Commenced to race keenly after establishing a position outside the leader near the 900m.

ONG VARN – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Tightened for room near the 100m.

THE IRONS – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Steadied from heels near the 50m.

PAPA JO – Steadied when placed in restricted room approaching the winning post.

RED MONKEY – Slow into stride. Jockey R. Goldsbury reported that her mount failed to show any speed in the early and middle stages, however it ran on well over the concluding stages. She added that, in her opinion, the horse will appreciate a step up in distance for its future race starts.

MAKUBA – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Apprentice M. Wishart in relation to her only claiming 2kg of her 3kg allowance. Began awkwardly. Laid in in the early stages of the home straight before shifting to the outside to secure clear running.

NONCHALANTE – Knuckled some distance after the winning post, and almost dislodged its rider. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

Race 6: DAVID GENGOS & CO RATINGS BAND 0-62 H’CAP – 1500M

LI’L RODGE – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey N. Tomizawa permitted his mount to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 900m.
