QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT WARWICK TURF CLUB – TUESDAY 2 APRIL 2019 WEATHER – FINE TRACK RATING – SOFT 5 RAIL – TRUE OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – R. HitchenerStewards – E. Barron, J. Childs, T. PrestonClerk of Scales – D. RossiterJudge – S. FaheyVeterinarian – Dr. C. ReardonSwab Attendants – E. Hodges Starter – C. WallaceStewards Secretary – M. Weir GENERAL Due to this meeting being transferred from Saturday 30 March 2019, Apprentice A. Thompson, who is currently suspended, and L. Cheshire, who has prior engagements at the Grafton meeting, were unable to fulfil their engagements, and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. As SAIL THE STARS (Race 5) and TIN’S POCKET (Race 7) both raced on Saturday 30 March 2019 at the Gold Coast and Monto meetings respectively, both horses underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were passed fit to start. Race 1: CROSSDRAW WESTERN EMPORIUM CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1500M ARISTOBEAUX – Held up and unable to improve for some distance from the 600m. Disappointed for a run leaving the 400m, when a runner to the gelding’s inside hung out. The gelding was then steadied from that runner’s heels before G. Snowden shifted his mount to the outside to secure clear running. NOWISEVERYTHING – After being forced wider on the track by another runner near the 1100m, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 800m. THE IRONS – When questioned by Stewards regarding the gelding’s seemingly improved performance, Trainer J. Gregory advised that at the horse’s most recent start it met with significant interference in running and, for that reason, it did not finish the race off as expected. He added that due to the circumstances of that race he had not been entirely disappointed with the performance. Mr. Gregory also went on to say that, in his opinion, the gelding’s form prior to its previous start had been reasonable, and given the class of the race today he had not been surprised to see an improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation. MEGASHOT – Held up and unable to improve from the 500m until entering the home straight. ENTERPRISE ROSIE – Hung out from the 800m. SWEET JAIN – Raced wide throughout. CLOWN IN THE MOON – Overraced in the middle stages. HAY LIFE – Raced wide throughout. Hung out for the majority. Race 2: RAHEEN STUD QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M CHEVY – Raced wide without cover throughout. CRUDE OIL – Steadied from heels shortly after the start. GOLDEN BASIL – Slow to begin. GOLDEN SYMPHONY – Momentarily steadied to avoid the heels of MAIDENOVER approaching the 900m. Raced in restricted room near the 700m. Apprentice N. Keal was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful that Apprentice Keal’s actions may have cost his mount 5th placing. DRAGON INTHE NORTH – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. MAIDENOVER – After being caught wide in the early stages, the filly was allowed to stride forward by its rider and, as a result, settled further forward than its most recent starts. Shifted wider on the track whilst under pressure in the home straight. CAUGHT REDHANDED – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. SHE LIKES A DRINK – Slow to begin. MOLINARI – Raced wide throughout. TWOGOBOOM – Steadied from heels after being crossed passing the 1000m. Race 3: TOPX WARWICK CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1350M THE DANGER – Prior to the event, connections advised that the gelding resents the use of the whip, and therefore its use would be limited during the race. DELANEY’S DESIRE – Slow to begin. WHISTLINDIXIE LAD – After being caught wide in the early stages, the gelding was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 1000m. Race 4: MAGIC MILLIONS BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1000M FIONNLAGH – Hung out rounding the home turn. PICK OF THE PUBS – Jockey L. McCoy reported that during the middle stages of the race her mount felt somewhat awkward in its action and was reluctant to stretch out. She added that, in her opinion, the gelding’s action improved in the home straight, however it still did not feel entirely comfortable and, for that reason, she desisted from riding it out over the concluding stages. On the advice provided by jockey McCoy, Stewards ordered a veterinary examination be undertaken on the gelding which revealed no apparent abnormalities. VANZANT – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Hung out rounding the home turn. DUBLE MEANING – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground. Race 5: WARWICK CREDIT UNION WARWICK CUP OPEN H’CAP – 1500M MELTED MOMENTS – Hung out during the middle stages and shifted wider on the track for some distance. UNIQUE MAGIC – Placed in restricted room for a short distance and was bumped when MELTED MOMENTS shifted out abruptly near the 1350m. Apprentice M. Wishart was reprimanded for excessive use of the whip prior to the 100m. BEQUEATHED – Placed in restricted room for a short distance and was bumped when MELTED MOMENTS shifted out abruptly near the 1350m. Race 6: ST MARY’S SCHOOL WARWICK BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M YOUR OPTION, which was kicked behind the barriers, was declared late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.10pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on YOUR OPTION be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 4 cents in the dollar for the Win #45 cents in the dollar for place of winner #44 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #126 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9 STARCASTER – Raced in restricted room shortly after the start. BEHIND THE THISTLE – Bucked shortly after the start dislodging jockey A. Chau. Jockey Chau subsequently reported that he was experiencing some soreness in his left hand. Trainer’s representative S. Clarke was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. Further, as this was the second occasion on which the gelding has bucked when first up from a spell, the gelding will be required to barrier trial prior to resuming from a spell in all future preparations. HIDDEN SEQUEL – Severely inconvenienced and was forced very wide on the track when another runner hung off the track near the 700m and, as a result, the mare failed to be competitive for the remainder of the race. CLASSIC BEAU – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. POSTIVE SPIN – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters shortly after the start and became unbalanced. Commenced to hang out near the 700m and travelled extremely wide on the track and, as a result, was eased out of the event. Trainer G. Schwenke was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. Race 7: BROWNLIE CONCRETORS BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M KEEP ON LOVING YOU – Slipped behind on jumping away and was then tightened for room. FISH BURGER – When questioned by Stewards as to the reason for him retiring the gelding from the event near the 600m, jockey G. Geran advised that the gelding was in an agitated state during the preliminary and whilst in the barriers. He added that during the middle stages when the gelding was hanging out he became concerned with its action and felt that something may have been amiss and, for this reason, he elected to retire the horse from the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to next racing. PUNDIT – Knuckled on jumping away and then shifted out abruptly making heavy contact with another runner, and was then reluctant to stretch out in the early stages. In this incident, jockey Yoshida was struck in the face. OVERGROWN – Bumped heavily on jumping away. MINI MOUNTAIN – Began awkwardly and was bumped on the hindquarters shortly thereafter.
