QUEENSLANDRACING INTEGRITY COMMISSION STEWARDS REPORT WARWICK TURF CLUB – TUESDAY 20 AUGUST 2019 WEATHER – FINE RAIL – TRUETRACK RATING – GOOD 3FIRM 2 (RETROSPECTIVE AFTER R1) OFFICIALS Chairman of Stewards – E. Weir GENERAL As the following horses raced on Saturday 17 August 2019 they each underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were passed fit to start: Race 3. WHITMANRace 3. QUEEN CONSORTRace 5. NOREENARace 5. SWAGMAN As WILL TO RULE (Race 6) was resuming from an 18 month spell, the gelding underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. As LUNCHTIME CHOICE (Race 7) was resuming from a 2 year spell, the mare underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. As Apprentice H. Phillips was indisposed due to illness, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice Phillips was advised that she will require a medical clearance prior to resuming riding. Race 1: TAB CLASS 4 PLATE – 1100M NEW ALLIANCE – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition. Raced ungenerously for a short distance shortly after the start. Hung out throughout. Raced in restricted room passing the 100m and was steadied. Jockey G. Geran reported that the gelding began well, however it laid out for the majority and raced ungenerously throughout proving difficult to ride. He added that, in his opinion, the gelding would have run on much better today if it had not been for its own racing manners. RED DEVIL – Bumped on jumping away. Laid in over the concluding stages. ESSAKA – Began awkwardly. ACCEPTILE – Trainer T. Webb was fined $100 for the late declaration of N. Evans as rider. Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in over the concluding stages. Momentarily steadied from the heels of RED DEVIL near the 150m. The gelding was accidentally struck with the whip of another runner passing the 100m. A post-race veterinary examination was undertaken on the gelding after blood was found in the vicinity of its nostril following the race. As the veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the presence of blood was due to external trauma, no further action was taken. ALEJANDRA – Bumped on jumping away. Steadied near the 500m. NOBBY’S GIFT – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. ANGELS LOVE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected, and then took no competitive part in the race. Trainer M. Hemmings was advised that the mare will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing. Following the running of this race the track was upgraded from a Good 3 to a Firm 2 retrospective. Race 2: TAB MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M BOOMI’S BUDDY – Shifted out shortly after the start and inconvenienced another runner. Raced keenly and greenly throughout. FAKE TAN – Steadied from heels approaching the 200m when WE WANT IT ALL (W. O’Connell) shifted out. Jockey O’Connell was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. RABOLINI – Laid in in the home straight. UNO TOPS – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn. D’OR DAME – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. GIVE HER ROOM – Raced 3 wide with cover for the majority. KEYHOLE – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Hemmings was advised that the horse will require a further barrier certificate prior to resuming racing. LIPS – Steadied from the heels of BOOMI’S BUDDY shortly after the start. ROCK ON HIGH – Improved onto heels and had to be eased near the 100m. TWOGOBOOM – Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority. WE WANT IT ALL – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages. Following the running of this race a mechanical malfunction occurred with the barriers resulting in all race times being put back one race with the start time of Race 7 being amended to 5.24pm. Race 3: TAB BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1500M HALLSIDE FANDANGO – Jockey A. Spinks advised that it was not his intention to take up a leading position however, after beginning well, he allowed his mount to stride forward when there was a lack of pace in the race rather than being caught wide and, as a result, obtained the leading position passing the 1100m. BENZ EXPRESS – Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice S. Tomlinson accidentally dropped his whip approaching the 200m. RESET’S SON – Shifted in under pressure in the early stages of the home straight before shifting out under pressure over the concluding stages. Apprentice M. Castle was issued with a severe reprimand for failing to ride her mount out to the conclusion of the race. FIRST WITNESS – Raced 3 wide for the majority. Following the disappointing performance, trainer J. Thomas advised that it is his intention to send the horse for an immediate spell. WHITMAN – Slow to begin and tailed off. Following the disappointing performance, Trainer M. Hemmings was advised that the gelding would be barred from racing at TAB meetings until such time as its form improves at country venues. QUEEN CONSORT – Raced in restricted room and had to be steadied at the 1300m. STELLAR JEWEL – Raced in restricted room near the 1300m. Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 1000m. Race 4: TAB BENCHMARK 65 H’CAP – 1350M JUST FAVULOUS – Bumped at the start. BOILING – Jumped with its head in the air and then shifted out and bumped JUST FAVULOUS and, as a result, lost ground. SHEZ OUR DESTINY – When questioned by Stewards, Trainer S. Sixtus could offer no explanation for the seemingly improved performance, other than that she had altered the mare’s trackwork program leading in to today’s race and, as a result, she had noticed an improvement in the horse’s work. CLOWN IN THE MOON – Laid out for the majority. Race 5: TAB CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1350M HIGHFALUTIN GAL – A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare had sustained lacerations to both hind legs consistent with it being galloped on. MARK OF THE CLASS – Raced keenly in the middle stages and had to be eased from heels on a number of occasions. EVENING – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Hung out and raced ungenerously between runners near the 600m. Raced in restricted room for a short distance when RUBY RED SLIPPERS (W. O’Connell) shifted in approaching the home turn. Jockey W. O’Connell was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground. SKYE AND ME – Tightened between runners shortly after the start. RUBY RED SLIPPERS – Raced wide for the majority. NOREENA – Steadied from the heels of HIGHFALUTIN GAL (L. Tilley) which shifted out rounding the home turn. Jockey L. Tilley was reprimanded as a result of this incident. SWAGMAN – Raced keenly in the early stages. BLUE MONTE – Raced wide for the majority. BOLD CROSSING – As jockey J. Grob was to be overweight, L. McCoy was substituted as rider. Jockey J. Grob was reprimanded. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Grob’s exemplary prior record in relation to this rule. Race 6: TAB COLTS, GELDINGS AND ENTIRES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M HIGHTOWER – Steadied when crowded for room near the 600m. Checked and clipped heels approaching the 200m when DANCING ON PARADE shifted out. Andrew Spinks, the rider of DANCING ON PARADE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR. 131(a) in that approaching the 200m he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of HIGHTOWER resulting in that runner being checked and clipping heels. Jockey Spinks’ licence to ride in races was suspended for 8 days to commence at midnight on Thursday 29 August 2019 and conclude at midnight on Friday 6 September 2019. In determining penalty, Stewards took into consideration jockey Spinks’ exemplary record in relation to this rule. CRISTOVAO – Jockey C. Eaton could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance other than that the mare may not have handled the firm track conditions today, and that it may not have been suited to the heavy weight impost. A post-race veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities. TOFU MICK – Apprentice N. Fazackerley was fined $200 for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race. In determining penalty, Stewards could not be satisfied that Apprentice Fazackerley’s actions had cost his mount 2nd place. BACK CHAT – Became fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly. WILL TO RULE – Slow to begin. IMABARMAN – Raced keenly in the early stages. Overraced near the 600m and, as a result, forced NEWS DIRECTOR wider on the track. DANCING ON PARADE – Knuckled on jumping away, and then shifted out and bumped IMABARMAN. ALL ZED AND DONE – Bumped by another runner approaching the 600m and, as a result, was forced wider on the track. ZOOMING – Got its head in the air whilst overracing in the middle stages. Bumped another runner on a number of occasions approaching the 600m. Inconvenienced near the 150m when DANCING ON PARADE (A. Spinks) shifted out. Jockey Spinks was reprimanded as a result of this incident. Apprentice B. Mackie was fined $200 for failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race. In determining penalty, Stewards could not be satisfied that Apprentice Mackie’s actions had cost her mount third place. Race 7: TAB FILLIES AND MARES BENCHMARK 55 H’CAP – 1100M The start of this race was delayed when COCKTAILSALLAROUND became fractious in the enclosure and dislodged jockey W. O’Connell. As a result of this incident, the mare cast the off hind plate which was unable to be refitted by the farrier. As the mare’s near hind plate was unable to be removed, the horse was declared a late scratching at 5.21pm. On the announcement of correct weight Stewards ordered that all monies invested on COCKTAILSALLAROUND be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers: 4 cents in the dollar for the Win #25 cents in the dollar for place of winner #26 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #135 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #9Jockey W. O’Connell reported that he was experiencing some discomfort in the area of his right ankle. MAC’S GAL – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority. STORM GIRL – Bumped on the point of the home turn and shortly after was eased from heels. IN HER ZONE – Held up rounding the home turn. Laid in in the home straight. ABB ROY – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start. JOLEN JOLEN – Tightened for room between runners on jumping away and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority. Steadied from the heels of STAR STRYKER rounding the home turn. STAR STRYKER – Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn.
