Race 5: SMITH FARMS – THE FALLS KILLARNEY MAIDEN PLATE – 1500M LAZARO – Raced in restricted room approaching the 200m and shifted wider on the track to secure clear running. When questioned by Stewards in relation to LAZARO racing in a more forward position today, jockey P. Randall advised that after beginning well, from a wide barrier he allowed his mount to stride forward to take up a position outside the leader, as it was apparent he would be caught wide without doing so. Trainer M. Boland advised that his instructions were to allow the gelding to settle where it was comfortable, although as a consequence of starting from a wide barrier, he advised Jockey Randall of his preference to allow the horse to stride forward to a more forward position then its customary racing pattern if required, to avoid being caught wide. Stewards noted the explanation. MARK OF EIGHT – Slow to begin. STRATA KING – Improved onto heels whilst racing ungenerously leaving the 300m, and had to be restrained for a short distance.
